What a gorgeous city full of heart and history. I would highly recommend it. There’s Ottoman history, ex Yugoslavian and the war history, good food and shopping and people are super lovely and friendly. Everything happens around the Old Town which is easy to walk around. The local food is great and you need to try Bosnian coffee and burek and čepavi - there are so many restaurants around town. A highlight was going to Mt Trebević for an excellent view and to see the abandoned bobsled track. And the Tunnel of Hope and the 11.7. We have been to lots of European and East European cities, but we absolutely loved Sarajevo. We drove down over the mountains from Belgrade. Great atmosphere and so much history, some a little to recent, that made it really interesting. The bars, restaurants and shops in the old town bazaar male for a wonderful time. Sarajevo is a great place!
Sarajevo is a great place! I grew up there in 1960's and 1970's. It survived the well known aggression and has recovered well. It has multiple layers of cultures and history in its buildings, cuisine, religious architecture. It is unique, colorful, friendly, vibrant, filled with open, optimistic and tolerant people. Great culture, lovely people, history, architecture. Food is lovely and really good value. Old town is beautiful. Museums well worth a visit to understand the history, particularly the war of 1985. Take euros or pounds sterling with you and use the bank or bureau de change. Taking currency out of ATMs you lose 10% on the exchange rate AND charged around £ 7 - 8 fee on top of that to use the atm. 400 Marks should be £ 177 pounds sterling @ current exchange rate, but cost me £ 203 after the 2 charges otherwise, a fabulous place to visit.Guest review byGrahamUnited Kingdom
