Breakfast was fantastic. Location was perfect. Directions to parking before we arrived were so helpful! The a/c was a bit finicky, but I will not complain because I have yet to have a/c in another hotel. I would highly recommend.

Hands down it was the staff and the hotel. From the moment we entered the young lady behind the reception desk was helpful, well informed and funny. She was kind and (and patient) in answering our questions (hotel and non-hotel related). We ate at the Embers and found the wait staff warm and welcoming, good food, great service. We met the restaurant manager, and we talked about beers and whiskey and the hotel manager, stopped by our table and he was very entertaining as we talked about a variety of subjects including our experiences in Ireland (He was right about Spike Island). I then saw these two managers go around the room doing the same with the other guests, as well as jumping in, helping wherever their was something that needed doing, whether that was filling a water glass, clearing a plate or sharing a good story. I think a good manager doesn't work from the top down, or from an office, but working beside his/her coworkers not only doing what a manager has to do to run a hotel but supporting their staff, the people that have direct contact with the guests. I will say this about one other group that might not have direct contact with the public but sets the stage to making everyone look good and that is the cleaning crew, everything was in its place in our room and the lobby was immaculate. I told one lady that, as I watched her straighten and wipe down every corner of the space. It was all of these small, important parts of the whole that makes the time in a hotel a wonderful experience.

FAQs about hotels in Kilkenny

Craic Larger Than Medieval Life

Spirited Kilkenny was Ireland’s capital in the Middle Ages and although many monuments remain from back then, it’s now best known for the 'craic'. Kilkenny cream ale flows in pubs forming part of its legendary nightlife and tours of Smithwick’s showcase Ireland’s oldest operating brewery, on grounds containing the St Francis Abbey ruins.

Kilkenny has the most medieval churches in Ireland. Dating to the 13th-century are the Black Abbey and St Canice’s Cathedral, next to the Round Tower - the only remains of a 9th-century monastery founded by the saint.

Medieval streets, inns and wall remnants still stand, but the most impressive attraction is Kilkenny Castle, in large gardens by the River Nore. The 3-turreted fortress was a former home of the once powerful Butler family.

The Parade leads from here past high street shops to The Tholsel – the porticoed town hall. The Elizabethan merchants’ residence Rothe House is in a similar style. Wandering the colourful streets you can’t fail to notice buildings named after cats, a reference to the residents’ dogged determination. Local hurling team The Cats play at Nowlan Park, and the city hosts the annual Cat Laughs comedy festival, amongst others.

Booking.com’s Kilkenny accommodation includes hotels with spas and pools, and city centre guest houses near the train station.

A lovely city with lots of charm, dining options, live music, history, and plenty of sights for a weekend getaway. Hidden gem: the butler house and gardens for a little break. The locals seemed quite friendly. A good option to visit with a family or otherwise.

Beautiful small city with lots to do and see.

Beautiful small city with lots to do and see. The castle tour is absolutely worth the time, as well as the cathedrals and climbing the tower. Restaurants close by 8pm and pubs stop serving food after 6 or 8pm so plan accordingly. Wonderful to stay for a pint after a meal and listen to live music. A wonderful town full of kind people.

The location was perfect, the room was comfortable and the staff is excellent! The food in Zuni restaurant was delicious. I also ate at the Butcher. They have a diverse menu and my guest and I tried different items to share, 2 entree and a few extra sides. Some had unusual combinations of flavors. Every dish was excellent. The castle was very interesting and well maintained. Their is a ruin of an Augustinan monastery nearby that also was a wonderful site rich in history. The ton of Kilkenny is lovely to look at and has a very charming, happy vibe.

Kilkenny was a quaint larger town with a beautiful castle, churches and historic pubs and lots of shopping! It was larger than I imagined- hence we could have stayed 3 or 4 nights there instead of only two! So much to see! We had a beer at Alice's pub (Kyteler Inn) and ate at The Fig- delicious! Shopping down the main streets was awesome too! Plenty of shops to choose from!

The breakfast and dinner was lovely, very generous portions, excellent value for money . Free drinking water with cordial available at any time, I love to walk so the fact that it's a 20min walk from the city centre didn't bother me but could be a problem for others .
