Spotlessly clean. Breakfast was nice, the very spacious room had - I suppose - a Japanese design. A comfortable double bed, a low table and two very low stools, but no sofa, no chair, no desk.
Very spacious bathroom.
A Jacuzzi in the bathroom AND on the terrace!

This is a beautiful, small city with wonderful restaurants, beautiful parks (filled with Nara's famous deer), a fascinating history and many sites of historical, architectural and religious significance - our only regret was the length of our stay, as two or three more nights would have been better as there is so much to see!

Nara was a great place for me since it has marvel buildings...
Nara was a great place for me since it has marvel buildings preserved from Tang dynasty of China, it has a such warm and relaxed environment. We stayed for 3 nights but I was hoping we stayed longer to see more of this endearing and oldest capital of Japan.
We visited Isui-en Garden which was tranquil, peaceful and memorable. I was welcomed by a volunteer who showed me the water garden, tea house and told me the history of the garden, through her enthusiasm I learned that in Japan's feudal system, samurai was the highest class followed by peasants, artisans and merchants. The person who created Isui-en Garden was a merchant who created the customs for Samurai, he made a lot of money and was able to create this garden. She made sure I remember the name of the garden in Chinese and Japanese, it means a "garden along the water"; a very appropriate name. Then at the end of the tour, she surprised me with colorful deers she made in her spare time in origami as gifts from Nara to me. I was so happy to cross the path with Isui-en Garden.
We really enjoyed Japanese Tapas in Yamato Cafe in the town center which only uses Nara vegetables. It was recommended by the local visitor center, we went there for lunch with cheapest package, then we were treated with first course of 5 or 6 small colorful and tasteful dishes, then we got multiple courses of main dishes with miso soup, and finally we got a wonderful dessert.
I wish we could stay longer to try out more local restaurants. We also enjoyed the local museums and temples.
Thank you Nara for your hospitality and friendliness. I left part of my heart in Nara.

An ideal tourist destination.
An ideal tourist destination. The deer park is worth the trip alone, but the historic temples and nice views complete the picture. Lots of eateries for tourists. I've been visiting for more than 20 years, and this year the crush of the tourist boom was evident along the main routes, but it was still easy to wander through quieter sections.
And thanks to the express trains, it can be a base for visiting Kyoto and Osaka as well.

For being a tourist destination, Nara did not seem overly crowded. Tourists seemed respectful, especially around the deer and at Tōdai-ji. It’s beautiful walking the expansive grounds and enjoying nature in the city.
Initially, we didn’t want to spend time with the deer (not a fan of deer in general), but the ones at Nara are special. Although wild, they seemed gentle compared to the ones on Miyajima, which were quite aggressive.
The Nara Buddhist Sculpture Hall and Tōdai-ji Museum with audio guide are worth a visit. Both sites were uncrowded and provided historical context for what we saw and experienced in the city, which made our visit enjoyable.

Many people stay in Kyoto and come to Nara for just a day trip. That is a big mistake. Nara has so many incredible temples and shrines and museums to see, spread out over a huge park. It is the perfect city for walking. The old city, called Nara-machi, is also fun to walk around. There are small restaurants and shops in renovated old houses. It is a very peaceful place to explore. I think it is necessary to stay at least two full days to see most of the famous sights.

Stay was too short in Nara!
Stay was too short in Nara! Staying at Smile Hotel was good choice, centrally located to shops, restaurants, buses, train ~ very convenient! Loved the visible culture in Nara and the very pretty deer that wander occasionally through the city! Beautiful location!

Room was clean and comfortable. We chose this because of the onsen style bath and it was well worth it. Bath was fantastic. Beds were very comfortable. Family weer very happy with the room. Location was very good, around 10-12 minute walk from the station and abour 5 minutes to the start of the deer park area. We opted for the set menu dinner at the hotel restaurant and it was fantastic. The adjusted menu for children was excellent and we all loved the meal.
I enjoyed my stay at Nara Hakushikaso. The hotel location is great (near Kintetsu Nara station), the personnel are polite (I had a pleasant talk and learned some cultural things about Japan), and all the amenities have been provided. Price/Quality ratio met my expectations.
The breakfast was excellent and abundant! You could choose between the traditional Japanese breakfast and the western-style one.
I originally chose it as it was close to Nara station, and I am so glad I did. There is so much more on offer at this hotel. A warm welcome, a beautiful Onsen waiting for you to soak your travel weariness away, comfortable bed, clean towels daily, the list goes on. What a fabulous little piece of heaven.
We had a pleasant stay at this hotel in Nara. The location is excellent—right in the center and within walking distance of many attractions. Having on-site parking was a big plus, especially in a city where that can be rare. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Location was perfect being right next to the station, and not a far walk to the Nara park area and some amazing restaurants and bars along the way. Staff were extremely helpful and I couldn’t recommend this hotel enough.
