The staff were incredibly friendly and always smiling. Also the location high on a hill allowed for excellent views. The food was delicious and the cocktails were excellent.

Staff was absolutely attentive and always willing to help. Rooms were clean and the location was nice and quiet, while still walking distance to cool sights, town (during the day), etc. Pool and restaurant area were welcoming and fun. The amenities/dispensers (handsoap, bodywash, shampoo, conditioners) were also nice. Hot water is adjustable and ample, and even with an on/off switch. :) Good ventilation and A/C options.

Good place to base with lots of activities close by.
Good place to base with lots of activities close by. We didn't spend much time in the town itself as we stayed slightly out of town center so cannot comment on restaurants and such. Good street food. Good grocery shopping to stock up.

We spent 2 full days there.
We spent 2 full days there. The first day we went to the local Mayan ruins of Cahal Peche and Xanantunich and the second we went cave tubing with Bellizean Caving Expeditions. Both were amazing experiences. If we had an extra day we would have loved to see the Mayan city of Carocal which is further away from town.

If you're looking for quiet and remote, then this is your place. There isn't much to do here. Thank God for the Casinos. They gave me something other than staring at the hotel walls to do.
Visiting the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich, was great. But you definitely want to take the taxi from the ferry to the top of the hill, if you're not in good shape.
Just a little way up the road is a restaurant named Sweet & Sour. The food was very good. I just wasn't feeling the cow foot soup. Lol.
Although lots of advertisement says public transportation is available. However, unless you want to spend a small fortune, you absolutely need a car and a working cell phone for the GPS.
The people in Belize were very helpful and friendly. It was great that most of them spoke English. This was a huge plus.
The poverty here was heart breaking. I'm glad that I had an opportunity to visit. But I doubt that I will be going back any time soon.

The only thing that was horrific about this place was the hair braiding woman whose small shop is directly left from The Spot restaurant which is on the opposite side of the Venus hotel. The woman is violent. She gave us a big spill about how awful my daughters hair extensions were and that she would take it out and do it again. She said she would do it for 50USD. We accepted as she seemed like a nice lady but how wrong we were. She took the extensions out but then said she couldn’t remove the beads in my daughters hair and would need to leave them in. My daughter was horrified so I then had to bite every single one of them out myself. She then cut a three inch chunk of my daughters hair which is right on the crown. We told her we didn’t want her doing it and she bullied us to carry on. She then side platted my daughters natural hair and made a huge plaitted bump and then sowed the hair into the plait leaving a huge surplus of the hair extensions hanging. My daughter was so distraught and started crying and begged her to stop. She then took a 12 inch kitchen knife from her handbag and pepper spray on her key ring and said we must giver her the money. It was such a scary experience. Please please avoid this woman at all costs. We then complained to authorities whom explained she was mentally unstable. They wanted us to file a police report to have her arrested but we just wanted to leave the area.

The market is a must see for especially the food that is available throughout the day.
Just like any other place, be careful at night time when walking downtown. We did feel very safe.
Have bug repellents ready at night.

Good spot to stay and commute to various tourist places in Western Belize-ruins, market, Guatemala border. Some of our destinations were far enough from San Ignacio that if I did the trip again, would have stayed closer to them versus commuting from San Ignacio
From the moment you pull, the owners make you feel like welcome guests. Amazing combination of comfort, privacy and scenic views. Having a full kitchen was a huge bonus for us (and the kitchen has all the equipment you need for cooking a meal). Virginia and Ken (the owners) are super hosts.
If we are ever back in San Ignacio area, we will not even look for a different accommodation, unless Villa Cayo is all booked out.
Highly recommend with one caveat - you need to be travelling with a car to fully enjoy your stay at Villa Cayo.
This hotel is everything! From the staff to the location. First, our flight got delayed and we didn’t make it to the hotel until 12midnight. But the hotel staff waited for us and showed us to our room. The next day, we had our continental breakfast (included on our room rate) then the manager, she helped us booked our tours. Also helped us booked out covid test that was done in the hotel. She’s very accommodating and very friendly. We would not ask for a better host. Thank you for making our San Ignacio trip memorable!
Rainforest Haven is in a good location uphill from nearby shopping, restaurants, etc. (We hadn't realized how hilly San Ignacio is.) The staff were very friendly, and Benji the dog was very cute. There's a retractable double clothes line in the bathroom. That was awesome! There's also a rooftop bar that doubles as a Marie Sharp's tasting room where you can taste her entire line of hot sauces, jams, and jellies. There is a shared kitchen that both rooms lead into. The guys in the other room were nice.
It was a magical place, absolutely gorgeous and so green. Every breakfast was homemade and delicious. Best of all is the owner, Dominic. Dominic takes great pride in his ranch and provides an excellent experience. It was fascinating to talk to him and learn more about Belize. We had very active and in depth conversations with him. We travelled as a family of 5 with our daughters and son-in-law, ages 26 through 30. They had a wonderful time as well.
We had a wonderful time…some of the most welcoming, kind, and accommodating people you will meet. Grounds are beautiful and perfectly maintained, rooms are stunning, and individual tours/guides are well worth it.
There are definitely cheaper options available but having stayed elsewhere in Belize and taken other tours, I can honestly say the attention to detail and personalization you get from Gaia is well worth the added price. Highly recommend.
it’s in the city center. the room was spacious and clean, with a nice private bathroom. the bed was good too and the airconditioning worked fine. but the best was the owner of the hostel! he helped us a lot, figuring out how to go to our next stop. we visited Xunantunich without a guide, and he told us to take photos so he could tell us everything about the architecture and history when we got back. super helpful and nice!
The very best thing about our stay was the restaurant!! The chefs were FANTASTIC! Such amazing gourmet food! We loved it all so much! It was also fun to have so much birds and wildlife around us to watch as we ate. The owner and workers were SO nice provided such great service too! It was located in a good spot, near San Ignacio but remote to feel like a jungle! Cute housing units too.
So far the best decision we made during our vacation was coming here!
We enjoyed everything about our stay, from the delicious food and stunning nature to the super relaxed atmosphere.
Dominic is an amazing host and everyone we met on the farm was just genuinely nice, we really felt at home!
Thank you for everything, we will definitely come back in the future!

Plenty of space in dorm plus lockers, personal fan And outlet, wifi good, enough shared bathrooms, areas to sit outside or inside, lots of tours and night activities like game or trivia, next to a park plus easy walk to ruins and hilltop view and swim pool, supermarket nearby, ac option, best hostel breakfast you can find
Our host, Neil, was brilliant. So welcoming, friendly and accomodating. The rooms are lovely clean and spacious and are set in amazing grounds with walking trais on our doorstep. The best part though is the food. Neil is an amazing cook! The food was so delicious and definitely a highlight of the stay.
The hostel was great! Central location, clean, comfortable and Amber was extremely helpful, I cannot thank her enough. The hostel also organises Tours at the best price (you have to do ATM cave!) ! I Had an amazing Time & would definitely recommend it without any hesitation.
Great place to stay with friendly hosts. Villa Cayo is only a few 3.5K from San Ignacio which is great for restaurants, shops and grocery stores. Located on a hill above the tree line gives you the jungle feel with great sunsets. A well maintained touch of paradise.
This beautiful resort provided us with everything. The rooms were well appointed. The restaurant was superb with a beautiful setting of the waterfall. They pay attention to detail and the customer care was the best experience we had in Belize.
Very clean and attention to details with everything, really felt like home. And the staff is really great. It's very quiet. 5 mins away you can see great mayan ruins, the best I've seen so far, and an amazing sunset.
Wish we’d found this one earlier. It was everything we needed at a very affordable price. Best of all was the location - step out of the hotel upon the charming promenade street at the heart of San Ignacio.
Fiona, the owner of the restaurant was an amazing! She introduced us to local traditional favorite foods and was very welcoming. Made us feel at home. Her fry jacks are the best!
the bed was super comfortable and the food at the hotel had to be the best food I’ve had in Belize and we’ve been here for5 months. The staff was super friendly
