Rolson Hotel, hotel in San Ignacio

Conveniently located a short walk from downtown San Ignacio, Rolson Hotel offers comfortable accommodations and free WiFi access.

Incredibly friendly staff that made us feel welcome and at home. They gave us perfect recommendations for stuff to do in the area. They even let us keep our rental car there an extra night while we went over to see Tikal. Very tasty Mexican themed restaurant we ate at 3/4 nights and for every breakfast. Drinks were also delicious. I highly recommend their signature margarita and pina coladas. The rooms were comfortable and included everything we needed. The pool was lovely after exploring in the heat. Definitely recommend staying here!

We stayed in a bungalow and it was comfortable and quiet. For the price we paid this resort was perfect!

Staying at Rainforest was so splendid we did not want to leave! The rooms were so spacious and lovely. Everything was very clean and in perfect condition. Shirley was such a wonderful and gracious host. The rooftop offers nice views of San Ignacio. I absolutely hope to visit the Rainforest Inn again and hopefully book a Marie Sharp cooking class next time!

    Nice small city- nice people.

Nice small city- nice people. Very close to Tikal in Guatemala- an excellent historic place to visit . We hired a cab for all 3 days. A bit pricey but was extremely convenient and the owner/driver was super nice.

Good place to base with lots of activities close by. We didn't spend much time in the town itself as we stayed slightly out of town center so cannot comment on restaurants and such. Good street food. Good grocery shopping to stock up.

We spent 2 full days there.

We spent 2 full days there. The first day we went to the local Mayan ruins of Cahal Peche and Xanantunich and the second we went cave tubing with Bellizean Caving Expeditions. Both were amazing experiences. If we had an extra day we would have loved to see the Mayan city of Carocal which is further away from town.

If you're looking for quiet and remote, then this is your place. There isn't much to do here. Thank God for the Casinos. They gave me something other than staring at the hotel walls to do. Visiting the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich, was great. But you definitely want to take the taxi from the ferry to the top of the hill, if you're not in good shape. Just a little way up the road is a restaurant named Sweet & Sour. The food was very good. I just wasn't feeling the cow foot soup. Lol. Although lots of advertisement says public transportation is available. However, unless you want to spend a small fortune, you absolutely need a car and a working cell phone for the GPS. The people in Belize were very helpful and friendly. It was great that most of them spoke English. This was a huge plus. The poverty here was heart breaking. I'm glad that I had an opportunity to visit. But I doubt that I will be going back any time soon.

The only thing that was horrific about this place was the hair braiding woman whose small shop is directly left from The Spot restaurant which is on the opposite side of the Venus hotel. The woman is violent. She gave us a big spill about how awful my daughters hair extensions were and that she would take it out and do it again. She said she would do it for 50USD. We accepted as she seemed like a nice lady but how wrong we were. She took the extensions out but then said she couldn’t remove the beads in my daughters hair and would need to leave them in. My daughter was horrified so I then had to bite every single one of them out myself. She then cut a three inch chunk of my daughters hair which is right on the crown. We told her we didn’t want her doing it and she bullied us to carry on. She then side platted my daughters natural hair and made a huge plaitted bump and then sowed the hair into the plait leaving a huge surplus of the hair extensions hanging. My daughter was so distraught and started crying and begged her to stop. She then took a 12 inch kitchen knife from her handbag and pepper spray on her key ring and said we must giver her the money. It was such a scary experience. Please please avoid this woman at all costs. We then complained to authorities whom explained she was mentally unstable. They wanted us to file a police report to have her arrested but we just wanted to leave the area.

    Easy to navigate on foot.

Easy to navigate on foot. The market is a must see for especially the food that is available throughout the day. Just like any other place, be careful at night time when walking downtown. We did feel very safe. Have bug repellents ready at night.

Bubbles and Jessica are an absolute tour de force. They are not only friendly, but they are helpful, reliable and HONEST (as in they give independent travelers like myself accurate information and options as opposed to trying to get money through hotel linked taxi services ). And let's face facts. What other hostel do you know of that has a Mayan ruin directly behind it? Great location and easy access to these places for the historical and nature enthusiast. Great kitchen area and other facilities.

The landlord was friendly and provided us with valuable local information related to obtaining cheap taxi rides to Benque or the border with Guatemala, it saved us atleast an hour. The room is exactly as the photos provided on the site. It was clean and tidy. Wifi reception was excellent. There are quite a few eateries and pubs around withing 300-500 meters. Cahal Pech Archeological Site is around 1km from this location. Sufficient clothes hangars provided.

I think we had the best room in the place, suite 132, a corner balcony with jungle views. On the Trumpet tree outside our room we saw various birds, including motmots and toucans. Also saw a kinkajou one evening. Amazing staff who remember your names and cater to your every whim. Also got a tour of the on-site Green Iguana Sanctuary. It’s a very short walk into town. Also, it’s where Will and Kate stayed when they were here. And the queen too back in 1994.

It was a magical place, absolutely gorgeous and so green. Every breakfast was homemade and delicious. Best of all is the owner, Dominic. Dominic takes great pride in his ranch and provides an excellent experience. It was fascinating to talk to him and learn more about Belize. We had very active and in depth conversations with him. We travelled as a family of 5 with our daughters and son-in-law, ages 26 through 30. They had a wonderful time as well.

Without a question this is the best place to stay in San Ignacio/Cayo! Virginia and Kenneth are the most caring hosts. The villa itself is even better than it looks in the photos. The hospitality details is exceptional and the villa itself was such a reprieve. The views are amazing, everything was immaculate and we were even able to cook quite comfortably in the well appointed kitchen. The daily housekeeping and the grounds is just gorgeous.

perfect view, incredible staff, very fair prices on food, drink and transportation. I did not experience any issues with water temp/pressure or WiFi as other people commented. typically, I expect hotel prices on additional items like food to be higher than the rest of town but generally found it to be competitive with or in some cases cheaper than down town. overall I would recommend it for the majority of people but not all.

The very best thing about our stay was the restaurant!! The chefs were FANTASTIC! Such amazing gourmet food! We loved it all so much! It was also fun to have so much birds and wildlife around us to watch as we ate. The owner and workers were SO nice provided such great service too! It was located in a good spot, near San Ignacio but remote to feel like a jungle! Cute housing units too.

We loved staying here! The hotel is located a few steps from the bridge and really just under a five minute walk from the center of San Ignacio. The owner Mike is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Dont expect a modern hotel with loads of amenities and just be happy with a good bed, nice hot shower and a lot of tv channels. The little fridge and coffee maker were a bonus!

Eventhough you are not in the center of San Ignacio, you can reach anything with a few minuts of walking. Staff was also very friendly and helpfull.

We loved the quiet area that it was in and it was just a short walk into town. The market is right next to Mana Kai where you can grab some fresh fruit and veg, yummy cheap food and souvenirs. The owners dad, Fransisco, was super friendly and was always up for a chat. He even picked some fruit from the trees for us. So lovely!

It’s a good place you can get for the price in San Ignacio that is close to the bus stop and tour agencies. But if you don’t have to be in San Ignacio you may rather stay 15min out of the town and enjoy the nature. Being in the city is not much fun.
