Incredibly friendly staff that made us feel welcome and at home. They gave us perfect recommendations for stuff to do in the area. They even let us keep our rental car there an extra night while we went over to see Tikal. Very tasty Mexican themed restaurant we ate at 3/4 nights and for every breakfast. Drinks were also delicious. I highly recommend their signature margarita and pina coladas. The rooms were comfortable and included everything we needed. The pool was lovely after exploring in the heat. Definitely recommend staying here!

Nice small city- nice people. Very close to Tikal in Guatemala- an excellent historic place to visit .
We hired a cab for all 3 days. A bit pricey but was extremely convenient and the owner/driver was super nice.

Good place to base with lots of activities close by.
Good place to base with lots of activities close by. We didn't spend much time in the town itself as we stayed slightly out of town center so cannot comment on restaurants and such. Good street food. Good grocery shopping to stock up.

We spent 2 full days there.
We spent 2 full days there. The first day we went to the local Mayan ruins of Cahal Peche and Xanantunich and the second we went cave tubing with Bellizean Caving Expeditions. Both were amazing experiences. If we had an extra day we would have loved to see the Mayan city of Carocal which is further away from town.

If you're looking for quiet and remote, then this is your place. There isn't much to do here. Thank God for the Casinos. They gave me something other than staring at the hotel walls to do.
Visiting the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich, was great. But you definitely want to take the taxi from the ferry to the top of the hill, if you're not in good shape.
Just a little way up the road is a restaurant named Sweet & Sour. The food was very good. I just wasn't feeling the cow foot soup. Lol.
Although lots of advertisement says public transportation is available. However, unless you want to spend a small fortune, you absolutely need a car and a working cell phone for the GPS.
The people in Belize were very helpful and friendly. It was great that most of them spoke English. This was a huge plus.
The poverty here was heart breaking. I'm glad that I had an opportunity to visit. But I doubt that I will be going back any time soon.

The only thing that was horrific about this place was the hair braiding woman whose small shop is directly left from The Spot restaurant which is on the opposite side of the Venus hotel. The woman is violent. She gave us a big spill about how awful my daughters hair extensions were and that she would take it out and do it again. She said she would do it for 50USD. We accepted as she seemed like a nice lady but how wrong we were. She took the extensions out but then said she couldn’t remove the beads in my daughters hair and would need to leave them in. My daughter was horrified so I then had to bite every single one of them out myself. She then cut a three inch chunk of my daughters hair which is right on the crown. We told her we didn’t want her doing it and she bullied us to carry on. She then side platted my daughters natural hair and made a huge plaitted bump and then sowed the hair into the plait leaving a huge surplus of the hair extensions hanging. My daughter was so distraught and started crying and begged her to stop. She then took a 12 inch kitchen knife from her handbag and pepper spray on her key ring and said we must giver her the money. It was such a scary experience. Please please avoid this woman at all costs. We then complained to authorities whom explained she was mentally unstable. They wanted us to file a police report to have her arrested but we just wanted to leave the area.

Easy to navigate on foot.
Easy to navigate on foot.
The market is a must see for especially the food that is available throughout the day.
Just like any other place, be careful at night time when walking downtown. We did feel very safe.
Have bug repellents ready at night.
I think we had the best room in the place, suite 132, a corner balcony with jungle views. On the Trumpet tree outside our room we saw various birds, including motmots and toucans. Also saw a kinkajou one evening. Amazing staff who remember your names and cater to your every whim. Also got a tour of the on-site Green Iguana Sanctuary. It’s a very short walk into town. Also, it’s where Will and Kate stayed when they were here. And the queen too back in 1994.
Bella’s is in an excellent location and is ideal base for exploring San Ignacio and the surrounding region. The hostel is well laid out with clean bathrooms and plenty of space. Staff were friendly, their focus was on creating a party atmosphere and getting everyone to socialise, so if you were looking to go out or make friends its a great spot, but if you’re looking for something low-key there was no pressure to drink which was appreciated.
Without a question this is the best place to stay in San Ignacio/Cayo! Virginia and Kenneth are the most caring hosts. The villa itself is even better than it looks in the photos. The hospitality details is exceptional and the villa itself was such a reprieve. The views are amazing, everything was immaculate and we were even able to cook quite comfortably in the well appointed kitchen. The daily housekeeping and the grounds is just gorgeous.
Considering some of the prices of the competition, this place seems like the best deal for a private room in Cayo (depending on which rates you're able to get). The air conditioner is awesome, there's a solid wifi connection and the room is spacious enough to have a couch, mini-fridge and table. Mike is a friendly guy and the property is only a little ways over the bridge, not too far from the main tourist areas of San Ignacio.
Fun and welcoming staff that organize good activities and are very helpful for trying to book tours. Got lots of travel tips from them, like free entry to Cahal Pech ruins (right behind the hostel, although climbing the hill up there SUCKS) and free COVID tests at the Guatemalan border.
Lots of good cheap options for food nearby.. AC actually works! Right on the Western Highway so it's easy to get there.
San Ignacio is a interesting and underdeveloped city that attracts mostly backpackers and travelers. Tourists tend to stay at the expensive resorts on the outside of town. Martha’s guesthouse offers clean and necessary amenities with a great downtown location. It won’t be glamorous but it’s close to the Saturday market and downtown tour starting places. Plenty of restaurants in walking distance.
What a perfect stay. The staff are incredible, the place is amazing and we had everything we had such a lovely stay. Highlight was having a delicious (and copious) breakfast on our last day watching all of the animals coming to eat too. Including a coatimundi, hummingbirds, toucans, and many other amazing birds. The Pina colada la were also some of the best I've had !
Great place to stay as right in town. Easy place to hire canoed...Tony just by the wooden bridge 35 Belizean for a day in a doe canoe.
Easy to get to the Mayan ruins on the local bus...cheapest and best option so you can spend quality time in the ruins.
Good atmosphere on the hostal and lots of places to socialize and hammocks to enjoy.
The hostel is awesome with a great atmosphere. You'll feel like home the minute you step into the door. The hostel owner and staff are very friendly always making sure you will have a great time. And a great time I had. Made friends for life there.
Hands down one of the best hostels I've stayed in in all my travel endeavors
Larry, the host, is one of the countries most knowledgeable sources. He not only provided a gorgeous home away from home with cold A.C, but also all the right information of what to do, where to go and how to get there from ruins to waterfalls to best restaurants.
i love the scenery and such a peaceful place. The staff are so amazing and super friendly ! i can’t wait to go back it is definitely worth going back . Customer service at its best :)
The location of the hotel was great for our family. Near restaurants and the bus stops, it made for easy planning. The room’s A/C unit and ceiling fan made for cool sleeping.
The food was excellent. Had some amazing staff. I will say the food was the best I ever had in Belize however the accommodations didn't match the quality.
