The door was locked. The woman came down and let us in. There an immediate negative vibe we both felt from her. She was cold, unfriendly. She said we could get our luggage and use the PIN in our confirmation email to open the door. The PIN did not work multiple tries. Through the door window, we said it wouldn't work. She stood there a long time looking down at her iPad, not opening the door, then walked away. She emerged from an adjacent door and tried our PIN. It wouldn't work for her either. She then began sticking a pen up under the keypad . My friend started to say something and was told by her to " stop talking!" saying she couldn't concentrate. She then instructed me to enter the code. It worked, but the very old door stuck, so I gave it an extra shove. Inside She began berating me, saying that I pushed too hard and that she'd thought I was going to break her lock! I responded that I had not pushed hard enough to break a lock. She then placed both hands on my shoulders, as you might when scolding a child and looking directly into my face, and said," I'm trying to be nice" and that we needed to be nice to her because she was apparently frazzled. We'd been perfectly polite and cordial, even after the " STOP TALKING" demand. That was it. We said we would not stay there and left. We did not even check in. I would give ZERO stars . Zero stars needs to be an option on ratings! It was a very upsetting experience, and neither of us, both 66 and travelers , had never encountered such treatment. I would not recommend this place to anyone, solely on our negative interaction with this woman.

When I left (For the second year running) there are no facilities to obtain refreshments if you have a long wait. (I arrived because of check out time 11:30 and the flight did not leave until 16:45) That is a long wait without the ablitly to have some refreshments.

Sydney has a nice heritage section, worth visiting. It is also only a short drive from the Louisbourg Fortress, where costumed characters give visitors interesting stories of the French settlers in the 1700s and descendants of the indigenous inhabitants tell their customs. Several other historical venues, as well as beautiful drives are near Sydney.

Sydney is noticeably dirty in tourist areas along waterfront and main streets, no apparent effort to clean up litter and cigarette butts in public and business areas. We found it curious that they’re doing improvements in some downtown area and yet past improvements are left to deteriorate. Especially benches and fencing near and around the waterfront. Another thing that really stood out was the lack of apparent event planning. There were at least 3 events going on while we were there and it was virtually impossible to get to the event we attended on the waterfront.

The people are so friendly, always happy to talk with you and help where needed. All the bus drivers were so helpful. Restaurants we visited served good food, friendly staff. Spent our time at World Curling event, met wonderful locals and nice visitors "from away"

Sydney will never be what it was back in the 50 and 60s., with the Steel Plant, fishing and the closing of the coal mines in the area but if you have lived here in the past you can still enjoy the scenery.

Staff was friendly and professional. Rooms are nicely updated and clean. Comfortable beds. Great walkable area around hotel (harbour, restauarants, parks) Lovely water pitchers in the lobby with cucumber or lemon slices were a nice bonus as it was a hot day when we arrived.
