One of the top three nicest hotels I've ever visited. Hideaway Rio Celeste was absolutely stunning from top to bottom, I only wish we had more time to stay. I had seen the property before and thought it was gorgeous, but was nervous to book a luxury hotel with an unpredictable, potentially crying, infant. Hideaway Rio Celeste was so welcoming to us, and happily provided a travel crib.
First of all, the location itself feels like a private oasis and was the perfect halfway point between La Fortuna and Liberia Airport. There's not a ton around in terms things to do and places to eat, but the hotel essentially provides fantastic options for all of that. We only stayed for one night but would definitely come back for longer in the future. The morning before our checkout, we hiked the hotel's exclusive trails to Rio Celeste, and were able to swim in the gorgeous water (which you can't do if accessing the river from the National Park.) There were two difficulty options, and the Armadillo Trail was perfect for us with our infant in his carrier.
We ate both dinner and breakfast (included) in the restaurant and it was wonderful. (They're also in the process of building a new Asian restaurant that it seems will be finished soon.) The wait staff was absolutely wonderful, the dinner entertainment was fantastic. Yes, the meal was a bit pricey but was fairly consistent with what we'd found for pricing throughout our stay in Costa Rica. We also had the best time watching the many, many exotic species of birds in front of the dining room window while we ate breakfast.
We stayed in an absolutely stunning Garden View Casita. It was so private and so spacious. So many nice touches eveywhere-- including a private viewing porch and an amazing outdoor shower. The beds were so comfortable, the AC and water pressure were amazing. Again, just sad we didn't have more time to spend there. We'll be back!
Celeste Mountain Lodge is located 2.5 mi from Bijagua and 3.1 mi from the entrance to Tenorio Volcano National Park.

I was impressed by the wood construction which gave it a rustic appeal but with all of the modern conveniences. The king bed was very comfortable and we loved the large deck where we observed many different birds.

Super fun two-night stay in this little neighborhood oasis. Owners are terrific and kind people, delicious breakfast and super filling (was not expecting that, thank you!). As others have mentioned, we sampled their homemade hot chocolate and the owner took us around on a little night tour of the gardens - especially loved seeing the sleeping birds all tucked in among the plants. Room, clean and comfy.

The location within the valley was great, with short walks through the neighborhood to other areas full of birds. There was a very good restaurant about 100 meters away and a well furnished kitchen.
The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean, and sitting on the verandah drinking our morning coffee or a glass of wine in the afternoon listening to and watching the birds was very relaxing and pleasant.
There were panederias, restaurants and markets within easy walking distance of the property.

Absolutely gorgeous area and a must-see for nature lovers!
Absolutely gorgeous area and a must-see for nature lovers! Tenorio National Park was wonderful, although quite crowded, so get there as early as possible. I highly recommend the hanging bridges trail at the Heliconias lodge because it was incredible and hardly anyone was there. We also got to see toucans on the road up there.

The town is essentially a series of businesses along Rte 6, a major road heading North/South. It’s about 1 mile in length. Beautiful vistas coming from the south and heading between the 2 volcanoes of Tenorio and Miravalles. The town is not picturesque but it’s surroundings are. Besides hiking to the waterfall and the lagoon of Rio Celeste, which is an amazing color, there’s not a lot to do (or not a lot to do that you haven’t done elsewhere in CR). For bird watchers, Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge and its boat tours on the river and lake come highly recommended. 2 nights of accommodations is good for most people. We stayed at Finca La Amistad, a working cacao farm, which I highly recommend. Bucolic surroundings, great owner and staff, nice accommodations and a nice chocolate tour makes it a great place to stay.

Great little hike, we were happy to have Jose, as our guide.
Great little hike, we were happy to have Jose, as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and fun. We only wished his english or our spanish were better! We saw lovely birds, including scarlet macaws, a bat, monkeys, lizards. The park has 2 access points and the unofficial one was better as it was more natural and you didn't hear traffic noise.

Be prepared for daily rain squalls even in "dry" season.
Be prepared for daily rain squalls even in "dry" season. Great cloud-forest hiking, especially to Catarata Bijagua--not many wild animals, but plenty of beautiful forests, rushing river, and waterfalls. In Bijagua, Restaurante/Pizzeria El Barrigon -- popular with locals as well as tourists -- has good-value casados.

Great lodges in wonderful garden with ponds, many birds , frogs, plants and trees. Fantastic host Victor who is most friendly, his wife also cooks great dinners and serves healthy breakfasts. Not far from national PARC and the lesser known but wonderful canu negro
The rooms are incredible, beautiful pods in the middle of the jungle with a beautiful view. We stayed here for one night to see Rio Celeste, definitely worth it. The rooms are really special, and the shower looking out into the jungle was a great touch. The gardens in the grounds are worth coming for a visit themselves, we saw so many birds and the hanging bridge experience is breathtaking, plus so great this is included in the price of your stay. Also would really recommend getting the marmalade at breakfast, that stuff is so tasty.
Everything.
Getting cozy in the nice and clean room and looking outside the balcony is medicine against stress. Was so in need of that.
Staff is welcoming and warm, go the extra mile to help and you really feel like you matter. REAL COSTA RICAN people. I will mention Walvin; but the maintenance staff are also fantastic.
I made a necessary request to the hotel regarding a health related issue and they really took measures and followed up. This is really extraordinary in my experience.
I wish all places gave that feeling.
The room was nice and clean. The breakfast was included and served at the attached restaurant, this was delicious. The staff were friendly and as all of the restaurants in the area close when the National park closes at 4pm, they made special exceptions to stay open for us if we requested dinner with them. It is directly opposite the entrance to the National park so it is great for visiting Rio Celeste Waterfall. You can also easily walk to the free swimming spot about 1km down the road!
We stayed after hiking the Rio Celeste. Our room was in a beautiful wood cabin. Meals were home-cooked in a communal area beside the fire and were absolutely delicious. We did the cacao tour and chocolate-making experience the next day. Our guide was really informative, and we even saw a sloth on the plantation. The chocolate was delicious. I'd strongly recommend it to anyone, but spend 2 days here as the full chocolate-making process is best when done over 2 days.
It was a great location to get to the Rio Celeste hike early in the morning, only a few minutes away. The hotel staff was great. The pool was lovely. The room was spacious and clean. They had proper recycling bins on the grounds! We had a nice private porch looking out onto the rainforest. We inquired about a night tour (to see frogs, snakes, etc.) and they recommended a guide ($US25 each). The tour was very interesting.
Sueño río celeste is a gem! We loved everything about our stay and would have stayed much longer had we had the time on our trip. The grounds are beautiful and our room was cosy and clean. The breakfast was exceptional with a large variety of items serviced. The owners of this hotel truly care about their guests and go above and beyond to make you feel at home. We most definitely would stay here again!
Breakfast was fantastic and very generous. Our host was very kind and knowledgeable, it was a pleasure chatting with Eliette. We absolutely loved having so much nature on our doorstep. We spent a lot of time on our balcony with our children, taking it slow and enjoying life :)
There is a lot to do near Bijagua, despite what people say. We stayed 3 nights and would have enjoyed an extra one at least !
Incredible setting with great views, lovely gardens, and a very unique property / eco-lodge concept.
Wonderful open common sitting and eating area. Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable rooms.
Joel has done an excellent job with the property and I would highly recommend staying here as a base to explore nearby Rio Celeste! The dinner (extra) was excellent.
Would highly recommend this hostel to anyone travelling and wanting to see the Rio Celeste waterfall. Extremely clean and comfortable. The owners are so so sweet, we had a beautiful breakfast made for us each morning, the gardens are stunning and the vibe was extremely relaxing. Feels more like a home than a hostel!
Great location, close to supermarkets and pharmacy, the road from this location to Rio Celeste is the best access road of the area.
Host was very friendly and knowledgeable of the area give us a lot of recommendations and answered all our questions in a friendly manner and with a lot of knowledge.
really great location, nice balcony with a bar. all the rooms have a balcony as well that I could see. two hot tubs (but don’t get super hot), about 20-30 minutes from Rio Celeste, nice big rooms with a lot of space! owners are very nice and helpful!
We loved our experience in Rio Celeste, the national park was amazing and staying in this accommodation was perfect.
We loved the place, the family is adorable, the garden is stunning and the breakfast amazing. The wifi also works very well.
The room was comfortable and clean with a 'frig and AC. The apartment is a bit hard to find, especially since we arrived at night. Pull in to a small, grassy driveway area right by the Rio Celeste Dreams sign.
The Rio Celeste Backpackers Hostel was a clean and comfortable stay! Denora and her daughter were incredible kind and helpful - they helped order a taxi to the park and assisted with the bus schedule.
This is a magical farm, our second stay and I hope to return. The bungalows are clean and charming, the cacao and plants are medicinal and delicious. The staff is so accommodating.
- Delicious “traditional” breakfast.
- Supernice and supportive owners.
- Great location for visiting Tenorio park and close by bathing spot at Rio Celeste.
Tremendous views, helpful staff, nice gardens, fast internet, delicious breakfast, very fair price - favorite budget hotel of my whole trip to Costa Rica!
Great location, just accross the street from the entrance to Rio Celeste park.
Cabin was very clean, had hot water, comfortable bed, and great gardens.
Very friendly owner (only spanish speaking), great and huge breakfast, hot water, wifi available for free, very close to the rio celeste entrance (600m)
