Breakfast was amazing & we booked last minute with no problem. The property had lovely flowers and a cute tunnel type walkway to the dining area.

One of the top three nicest hotels I've ever visited. Hideaway Rio Celeste was absolutely stunning from top to bottom, I only wish we had more time to stay. I had seen the property before and thought it was gorgeous, but was nervous to book a luxury hotel with an unpredictable, potentially crying, infant. Hideaway Rio Celeste was so welcoming to us, and happily provided a travel crib.
First of all, the location itself feels like a private oasis and was the perfect halfway point between La Fortuna and Liberia Airport. There's not a ton around in terms things to do and places to eat, but the hotel essentially provides fantastic options for all of that. We only stayed for one night but would definitely come back for longer in the future. The morning before our checkout, we hiked the hotel's exclusive trails to Rio Celeste, and were able to swim in the gorgeous water (which you can't do if accessing the river from the National Park.) There were two difficulty options, and the Armadillo Trail was perfect for us with our infant in his carrier.
We ate both dinner and breakfast (included) in the restaurant and it was wonderful. (They're also in the process of building a new Asian restaurant that it seems will be finished soon.) The wait staff was absolutely wonderful, the dinner entertainment was fantastic. Yes, the meal was a bit pricey but was fairly consistent with what we'd found for pricing throughout our stay in Costa Rica. We also had the best time watching the many, many exotic species of birds in front of the dining room window while we ate breakfast.
We stayed in an absolutely stunning Garden View Casita. It was so private and so spacious. So many nice touches eveywhere-- including a private viewing porch and an amazing outdoor shower. The beds were so comfortable, the AC and water pressure were amazing. Again, just sad we didn't have more time to spend there. We'll be back!

This is a MUST stop on your itinerary when visiting Costa Rica. After visiting Volcano Tenorio National Park (Rio Celeste), we decided to stay in the area a couple days. The lodge's property has 3 trails - one of the trails has three hanging bridges. While hiking the longer trail, we took a little side trail called Rufus Trail and saw two tucans, lots of hummingbirds and big blue butterflies. The forest was magical and so green. The cabin we stayed in was GORGEOUS. It had a bathroom with a rain shower and the bedroom was so spacious. The porch had a hammock and other comfortable chairs. Breakfast was wonderful each morning (there were three options). All in all, I lovedddd this place.

Super fun two-night stay in this little neighborhood oasis. Owners are terrific and kind people, delicious breakfast and super filling (was not expecting that, thank you!). As others have mentioned, we sampled their homemade hot chocolate and the owner took us around on a little night tour of the gardens - especially loved seeing the sleeping birds all tucked in among the plants. Room, clean and comfy.

The location within the valley was great, with short walks through the neighborhood to other areas full of birds. There was a very good restaurant about 100 meters away and a well furnished kitchen.
The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean, and sitting on the verandah drinking our morning coffee or a glass of wine in the afternoon listening to and watching the birds was very relaxing and pleasant.
There were panederias, restaurants and markets within easy walking distance of the property.

Absolutely gorgeous area and a must-see for nature lovers!
Absolutely gorgeous area and a must-see for nature lovers! Tenorio National Park was wonderful, although quite crowded, so get there as early as possible. I highly recommend the hanging bridges trail at the Heliconias lodge because it was incredible and hardly anyone was there. We also got to see toucans on the road up there.

The town is essentially a series of businesses along Rte 6, a major road heading North/South. It’s about 1 mile in length. Beautiful vistas coming from the south and heading between the 2 volcanoes of Tenorio and Miravalles. The town is not picturesque but it’s surroundings are. Besides hiking to the waterfall and the lagoon of Rio Celeste, which is an amazing color, there’s not a lot to do (or not a lot to do that you haven’t done elsewhere in CR). For bird watchers, Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge and its boat tours on the river and lake come highly recommended. 2 nights of accommodations is good for most people. We stayed at Finca La Amistad, a working cacao farm, which I highly recommend. Bucolic surroundings, great owner and staff, nice accommodations and a nice chocolate tour makes it a great place to stay.

Great little hike, we were happy to have Jose, as our guide.
Great little hike, we were happy to have Jose, as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and fun. We only wished his english or our spanish were better! We saw lovely birds, including scarlet macaws, a bat, monkeys, lizards. The park has 2 access points and the unofficial one was better as it was more natural and you didn't hear traffic noise.

Be prepared for daily rain squalls even in "dry" season.
Be prepared for daily rain squalls even in "dry" season. Great cloud-forest hiking, especially to Catarata Bijagua--not many wild animals, but plenty of beautiful forests, rushing river, and waterfalls. In Bijagua, Restaurante/Pizzeria El Barrigon -- popular with locals as well as tourists -- has good-value casados.

Great lodges in wonderful garden with ponds, many birds , frogs, plants and trees. Fantastic host Victor who is most friendly, his wife also cooks great dinners and serves healthy breakfasts. Not far from national PARC and the lesser known but wonderful canu negro
Owner and staff are attentive. Morning walk of the cacao plantation is very informative and educational. Very recommended to take the chocolate course (trainer's English not always clear, but we manage to make 1/2 kg chocolate per person to bring back home). Recommended to stay 2 nights, and walk around the property (there is a 2 hours walk in the plantation and forest where you can spot beautiful flora and fauna). Love the free chocolate drink at check-in. Fire place for night star watching is just priceless.
Nearly everything was fantastic! The price can’t be beat. We planned to drive to Rio Celeste to go hiking but then we were told there are private hiking trails to a waterfall at the lodge. We opted for this hike instead and had zero regrets. We got the entire waterfall and swimming hole to ourselves and saw frogs and butterflies on the path! Breakfast was included and it was delicious. The cabin itself was charming and comfortable.
just everything! amazing how lovely the owners Marcy and Brian created a beautiful „boutique“ style hotel. thst prooves again, that „luxury“ is not a question of big money, its of style and taste.
we had the pura vida bungalow and loved the view and the great bathroom. excellent breakfast was served at our terrasse. very kind staff. thanks to all for one of our best stays on our 3 weeks tour in CR.
The different fruit trees, lemongrass, cinnamon tree, cacao, coffee growing on the property! Even though we don’t know Spanish that well, we could still understand the host as he gave us a friendly and patient tour of the little farm. He was so expressive that we could understand about the plants even in Spanish.
The kitchen is extremely clean and well organized, and all the appliances nice.
Cecile's breakfast was always wonderful. And so lovely to enjoy it with views of their incredible garden. The best homemade bread!!!
The property is stunning and the pool was great for relaxing and cooling off after long hikes exploring the rain forest around Bijagua. Plus the fact that you can get a delicious dinner delivered from local restaurants and in a timely manor made it perfect!
Gorgeous gardens, views and a huge
room. The staff was great and made a
wonderful dinner for us even though
we arrived so late. We loved walking
their hanging bridges and saw a sloth.
This was a perfect first place to stop
from Liberia and a short drive the next
morning to Rio Celeste. Wish we
could have stayed longer.
Would highly recommend this hostel to anyone travelling and wanting to see the Rio Celeste waterfall. Extremely clean and comfortable. The owners are so so sweet, we had a beautiful breakfast made for us each morning, the gardens are stunning and the vibe was extremely relaxing. Feels more like a home than a hostel!
Itza is an amazing host! We arrived way passed the check-in time due to public transport delays and Itza stayed up to welcome us with a snack and keys. Much appreciated! Also we got loads of useful tips and tricks on exploring Rio Celeste. I would absolutely stay here again
Well maintained, small property (very peaceful) and a great attention to details from the owner and the staff. Warm welcome and very personable staff.
The bird feeding, along with the amazing breakfast, was a highlight of our stay. Super close to Rio Celeste too.
One of the highlights of our 3 week tour through CR. Unique property, not too hard to get to, close to other attractions (Tenorio, Rio Celeste), and enough to do onsite to spend a couple of days there too. The chocolate workshop is a must!
The location near Rio Celeste and the low room rate made our stay a great value.
The family who owns the hotel is very sweet and accommodating, but they speak Spanish only. Be sure you have some Espanõl before you go.
The trail is awesome. The other hotel we tried had a trail as a checklist kind of item that was not very long or very interesting. Heliconias trail is awesome. The hanging bridge...Not so much. The view was also great.
Trails to a waterfall to swim and to a lookout platform. Nice pool to cool off in. Excellent breakfast included.
End of the road yet a short drive to restaurants in Bijagua. Very nice lodging. Hummingbird feeders.
Prefect location, great staff, easy access to lots of activities. Everyone was very helpful and it is part of what made Rio Celeste our favorite place on our trip.
