This was the perfect place to stay on our first night in Costa Rica. We were looking for a place with transportation from the airport, and Mathieu was very easy to coordinate with for this. The room was spacious and nicely appointed, we loved sleeping with the fresh air and waking up to the sounds of the birds and insects. We also loved relaxing on the private porch in the morning, and even saw a toucan fly by just as we were sitting down to eat! Breakfast was great as well, we are a family of 4 and everyone was happy. Would love to stay here again!
A convenient stay at the favorite hotel for travelers with complimentary transportation to and from the Juan Santamaria International Airport. Surrounded by a variety of dining options.

The area is fun and easy to get around. There are many small stores, but no good supermarkets. TONS of cafes and fast food places, so getting something to eat is easy. I'd go there again, but there's not a ton to do unless you enjoy sitting in parks, which I do.

I only walked around the immediate area of the hotel . I had no need to explore the town as I had a demanding schedule upon arrival and prior to departure . This was just super convenient to the airport.

It’s the best location to stay on your first night,...
It’s the best location to stay on your first night, especially if you arrive in the evening and don’t have an “all inclusive“ vacation booked; and best location for your last night in Costa Rica, due to the proximity to the airport.
Be warned, the red taxis are really expensive and Uber drivers are allowed to drop you off at the airport, but are not allowed to pick you up from the airport. Most places that offer accommodation, also offer a pickup service from the airport. Take it. The closer to the airport, the cheaper they get; prices start at $5 and could get to $35, $40 US dollars , depending on the distance to the airport.
Most rental cars offices are around the airport, so, look for a place to stay not too far away from the airport and one that offers drop off to a rental car office. If not, it’s always an Uber driver available. The closer to the airport, the better, for first and last night stay, because driving in the city could take a veeeeeery long time.
If you have time, walk the streets of Alajuela, people are very friendly and ready to help. Be very careful, the water tranches along the pedestrian walkways, are very deep, and the holes on the uneven pavement are deep as well, but definitely go to the city’s fresh market; it is a very interesting experience. Make sure you calculate well the prices, from corones into dollars, lots of vendors will try to take advantage of you, if you don’t pay attention. You can pay in US dollars everywhere, except for buses (long distance or local buses); the dollar bills must be pristine, one little tear anywhere on the bill, will be refused.
All in all is a nice city full of hustle and bustle, with lots of cars and people, with little parks with amazing trees, lots of perrots, delicious fresh fruits and gelatos

Quite noisy and a bit dirty.
Quite noisy and a bit dirty. People are nice, but food was a disappointment - it was almost impossible to find fresh vegetarian food that hadn’t been processed. Everything was fried in grease and had meat in it.

A horrible crowded traffic-glutted ugly town, which however has a great bookstore - Goodlight books - and a noisy rather grim organic cafe called Chante with really good food and vegan ice cream, but the traffic outside is awful. Rorro's Mexican restaurant was warm-hearted and fun but lots of fried stuff and the veggie tacos were horrible, with rubbery eggplant. The french fries were awful compared to the ones at Chante. My friend found driving in Alajuela a nightmare.
I don't think you can get closer accommodation to the airport for the price. This was my first night in Costa rica and did not understand how they used the toilets but it's a norm so educate yourself. The shower was a first as the shower head doubles as a heater with live electricity in the shower, which too is a norm in Costa Rica.
There is a local shop just beneath the stay that sold me the best chicken burger I've had.
This place is for a convenience traveller that don't need the bells and whistles like a hotel.
Great location. The beds were comfy and soft and clean. The cute balcony had outdoor grass carpet and was comfy with great views. The pool looked nice. We left too early to be able to participate in breakfast, but the space looked comfy and clean. Best part for me was a BATHTUB!! and the water was hot!!! Super for the weary traveler! The hotel gave us good recommendations for dinner and convenient store. The 4am shuttle was right on time. Very nice airport stop!
My husband and I were “stuck” in Costa Rica for an extra two nights and needed somewhere quick and comfortable to spend the night. The Alajuela Hotel and Guest house was perfect. Checkin was easy, the staff was helpful and accommodating, and the breakfast offered was delicious. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the back courtyard is a tranquil place to read or have some coffee. The neighborhood was also great and walkable and we enjoyed dinner at a restaurant next door.
Hotel is located in quite area in Alajuela. You can find restaurants, supermarket with ATM in the nearby.
The room was very clean and comfortable. You can prepare yourself a breakfast in the morning as kitchen and some basic food is available for everyone. Coffee is delicious.
The location is very close to the airport and the owner offers transfer for extra affordable charge.
Hotel Aeropuerto is the perfect stopping off place when you’re heading to or from the airport. Sure the rooms are dated and the facilities a little old school, but the lovely little pool is fantastic and the biggest surprise was the restaurant, el Dirigo. The delicious food and microbrewery beer and kombucha were quite frankly the best part of our short stay.
I chose Park View hotel because of its location and good price. I wasn't disappointed - it's a short taxi ride from the airport and was relatively cheap compared to many San Jose hotels. Although the staff didn't speak much English, we managed to understand each other. Breakfast was good and the staff were helpful.
My stay at Fairfield by Marriott San Jose Airport Alajuela was fantastic. The staff were welcoming and efficient, the room was clean and comfortable, and the location was convenient for airport access. The complimentary breakfast was a delightful addition. Highly recommend this hotel for a pleasant stay in Alajuela.
the hotel is very close to airport and a big mall. if you have to stay near airport this hostel is perfect choice. the staff is very good. they help you everything you need. free shuttle service for airport is very convenient. the breakfast is simple but enough.
Interesting building
Nice balcony
Great for short stay (1 or 2 days)
Near Airport (watch out for taxi gouging at SJO)
Luggage keep/storage (locked)
Helpful staff
Lobby space to hangout, take breaks, sort out plans, etc.
Shower & toilet in room
Warm showers
Very convenient for the airport and with a free airport shuttle. No need to negotiate the traffic jams in/through San Jose on the day of flights and much cheaper than the hotel-chain accommodation options on the airport campus/periphery.
