Absolutely outstanding hotel. I loved everything about it. Very classy, comfortable, and luxurious. Check-in was very pleasant; I was warmly greeted, made comfortable, and the manger helped me with dinner reservations-- the restaurant (Nepomuk) was perfect for what I wanted. The bed and linens were very comfortable, and the robe and towels plush. The balcony was great. The view of the castle, bridge, and old town from the room and balcony were spectacular. The bathroom was huge. Everything was spotless. Breakfast was a surprise-- I expected a continental buffet breakfast, but instead was seated and presented with a 3-tiered tray of a variety of delicious things, and offered eggs and coffee. Exceptional service from the staff throughout my stay. Air conditioning was appreciated and worked fairly well, and the exterior windows & door do a great job of keeping out the street noise. It was an expensive room (for me) but a great value!

Compact but comfortable rooms easily housed four people. Very practical location, a short walk from the main train station and with good access to streetcars taking you to the city centre in <10 minutes. Lots of nice little touches - a modern and comfortable dining area, cake and fresh water in the lounge area, games, etc.

FAQs about hotels in Heidelberg

Fit For a King

Picture perfect Heidelberg is guarded by its famous castle halfway up a hill. If you don’t feel like walking, a funicular train goes there and continues to Königstuhl Mountain whose views are fit for the king it is named after. Dating to the 13th century, the ruined castle has peaceful landscaped grounds to wander, and the Heidelberg Tun, the world’s biggest wine barrel. And big it is!

At the foot of the hill is cobbled Hauptstrasse, supposedly Germany’s longest pedestrian shopping street selling traditional German beer mugs amongst other things. Also here are sidewalk cafes, the odd bierkeller and several Heidelberg hotels.

A short walk west is the Heiliggeistkirche (Church of the Holy Spirit), towering above the Baroque old town. Its square is the site of the Heidelberg Christmas markets, while to the north the beautiful Old Bridge crosses the Neckar River and ends at a twin-towered city gate.

Further west is Heidelberg University, the oldest in Germany and with a national reputation to rival Cambridge, its sister city. Over the river, Neckarwiese is a riverside park popular with students for a barbecue and beer, while by night the city’s many bars stay open until the early hours (and beyond!).

The nearest airports – Frankfurt and Stuttgart – both offer quick access by train to the Heidelberg accommodations on Booking.com

Wonderful views if you’re up for the climb.

Wonderful views if you’re up for the climb. Castle and Philosophenweg are a must. Old town is lovely but be prepared for the crowds. I walked a little bit further along the river from the old bridge and it was much quieter. Nice food, wine and views at Pier IV. Beautiful place to sit and watch the boats go by, with amazing views all around. Overall Heidelberg is a lovely place to stop for a short stay.

Great old town, river and access to surrounding areas means there is plenty to see and do. Only downside is that it is very crowded due to the number of tourists during peak season. Also easy to travel by train to the Technik Museum at Sinsheim for a day trip.

We stayed in a hotel near the old town.

We stayed in a hotel near the old town. The old town had a main street that was full of shops, and places to eat or drink. It is quite long and there are places outside to eat too which is nice on a hot day. We were there on a Sunday and Monday and it was busy both days even though shops were mostly closed on Sunday. We visited the Castle and had a walk around the old town on Sunday. The Castle has large outdoor terraced gardens which give good views over the whole town and river Neckar valley. There are churches to visit in the old town too.

A very beautiful city on the banks of the Neckar River.

A very beautiful city on the banks of the Neckar River. It has some beautiful buildings and architecture and has retained much of the charm in the old town. Every retail unit is open and bustling, with a nice vibe in town. I didn't get time to get onto the water, but would like to try that next time. I wasn't au fait with the nightlife in town, but many of the food outlets closed at 8pm (midweek).

it used to be a nice city. However the local government has made owning a car basically illegal. They like to run all the local people out and offer up high end luxury apartments no one can really afford.

Everything! It’s a really good hotel - small and friendly with very helpful staff. There’s onsite parking for a reasonable cost and the bus to the old town stops just across the road and runs until midnight. The journey takes under 10 minutes. Our room was very spacious and comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel overlooks the river Neckar (next time we’ll book a room with a river view) and was easy to find. Heidelberg is a lovely city and well worth a visit.

I did a booking with parking included but they don't have parking available, the nearest parking is not so easy to reach by car and is difficult to park around just to take your luggage to the hotel, is a hotel for backpackers not for people with car.
