Scratch beneath the small-town surface of Helsinki and you will find a cosmopolitan metropolis buzzing with a lively attitude and plenty of excitement. The relatively short-lived summer offers the best chance to appreciate the outdoors and sit on one of the popular café terraces, or even hit the Hietaniemi Beach, all of which can be enjoyed during the 20 hours of daylight.
Strolling around the streets of Helsinki will reveal an Empire-style of architecture, comparable to St. Petersburg. The greatest example of this is the green-domed Lutheran Cathedral which rises proudly out of the center of Senate Square.
From here the main shopping street of Aleksanterinkatu, affectionately known as Aleksi, runs towards Mannerheimintie and contains the largest department store in Scandanavia, called Stockmann. The up-market boulevard of Esplanadi runs alongside and is packed with exclusive boutiques.
Lovers of Nordic design will be thrilled by the Design Museum and the Ateneum Art Museum. Nature is in abundance on the beautiful archipelago which lies along the coast. A must-see is the Baltic fortress of Suomenlinna, where you just might forget you’re in a big city.

Helsinki doesn't have a dedicated "Old Town" like many other Baltic States. What it does offer is a really interesting mix of old buildings (many accessible as "tourist" options) and absolutely stunning modern architectural masterpieces (also accessible). Central Library is an absolute MUST VISIT as is Kiasma for contemporary art. Several market buildings are also worth a visit (in particular Hakaniemi and Old Market Hall). Don't miss a visit to Sibelius Monument, and the City Cruise is worth 1.5 hours. The Helsinki Card is well worth the cost if you plan to do museums/cruise/tram rides/etc. Beware the main (white) Cathedral is not included, and frankly is not worth the entrance fee - it was the most underwhelming cathedral interior I have ever seen (Cologne, Krakow, Belgrade, Gdansk, Tromso, Bergen, Coventry, Stockholm, Salisbury, included !!!) - the Uspenski Cathedral is far more impressive! Stones is basic, a bit "Hip" but they do a very good moose burger!

The city itself is very nice, and you can spend 2–3 days visiting. Since we came for the race, we didn’t see much, but we did visit the top 5 attractions listed on TripAdvisor. We visited the Sea Fortress Suomenlinna, the Temppeliaukio Church (which I highly recommend; I’m not usually a churchgoer, nor am I religious, but this church really impressed me), Helsinki Cathedral, the Old Market Hall (where I also had a traditional dessert), and Uspenskin Cathedral, an Orthodox cathedral.

Loved everything about the city and vicinity.
Loved everything about the city and vicinity. Make sure to visit: (1) Market square; (2) Take a tour with a city planner ("Ataman" tours"); (3) If you grew up reading books about Moomin family of trolls - there is a great "Moomin" shop close to the Market Square; (4) take a boat to Island of Suomenlinna (note: if you have tram tickets for "AB" area, they'd work for the boat) and while there, make sure to visit their delightful Toy Museum and their little cafe; (5) Löyly sauna is the must and you do not have to wear speedos: all the guys were in normal swim trunks (you can rent them right there as well); (5) Visit Uutela forest (~ 40 minute ride on a train).
Just walk around and talk to the locals: everyone speaks perfect English and we found that it is not true that Finns hate small talk: everyone was warm and friendly and talked to us plenty.

Helsinki is a very safe and walkable city and although it was cold, getting around was no problem. The people are very friendly and a credit to their city. Lots to see and do. Trams everywhere if you need them. Big wide streets and shopping centres that are really bright and clean. Overall I would highly recommend a visit, three days at least.

Interesting city , nice to visit in the summer with lots of sightseeing. Especially for those who like walks by the sea or taking a trip with a boat. There are issues with renovation which happen all over the city during the summer but hopefully you can avoid them. Public transport is great, people know english very well, eating is quite expensive by average European standards but with the right schedule maybe you can manage. Make sure to visit Tallin and Porvoo as well
Excellent location, easy access to shops and restaurants in the city center, you can walk everywhere from this hotel. I like Rivoli Jardin and have stayed there before. I had to leave early in the morning to the airport and they kindly offered to make me a sandwich to take-away as it was too early for a sit down breakfast and I really appreciated that gesture. There is a homely feeling, which I like plus guests can leave or take books from the small book shelf close to the reception area, which is a very nice touch.
This is a modern, stylish, and spacious apartment close to the city center. Great public transport infrastructure - trams, busses, metro. Direct bus to the airport. A decent supermarket right there. The apartment is in the old beautiful building with a fun old-style elevator. It is very warm in the apartment. Fully equipped modern kitchen. Comfortable bed. The manager of the apartment is always available on the phone.
Everything was perfect, staff is amazing. Thanks to everyone for accommodating us. Special thanks to Thodoris the Greek guy ,to the lady in the reception for the little talk and for the tips that they gave us for our vacation around Helsinki. Also thanks to Abdi for the amazing service at the bar! The hotel is very close to the city center so everything is very close to you by foot.
The location was the best possible - right in the middle of the city center. What was really exceptional was how quiet it was at the same time. I cannot remember if I have ever staid at such a quiet hotel - there were no traffic noises whatever during the night. We also appreciated the space; it really was an apartment, not just a room. And really great value for the price.
The room was comfortable, although not the most comfortable bed I’ve had in hotels. Everything was clean and accessible, the breakfast was excellent, and had plenty of choices. The location was perfect; very easy access to the main train station as well as other public transport, and also central enough that much of the city center could be explored by foot from the hotel.
Very good breakfast and good location, as hotel location is very good, we can reach most of tourist attractions by foot under nice weather in Helsinki. Really good experience in Helsinki. By the way, upper lounge in Hotel Kamp is very good, we had a nice time there, good food, good service.
Friendly, efficient service; tasty breakfast; a confortable room, with a fair area (4 beds in our case); and a really nice location, in the city center. Arthur surpasses the expectations for a 3 star hotel, we will definitely book this hotel again if we return to Helsinki.
The hotel is in a good location, close to the bus and metro station (two stops away from the city center). The breakfast was excellent, with many food options. The room was big enough for two persons and it was very clean.
The location of the hotel was great, right in the city center close to Kaampi mall and a lit of restaurants and shops.
The room was large enough, beautifully designed and with super comfi beds.
Highly recommend.
The staff was very polite and helpful, the facilities were new, modern and very clean, the hotel location was very close to the city center, the wifi was more than adequate. Overall very comfortable stay!
Very comfortable hotel with an incredible design.
Very tasty breakfasts and lunches.
Lots of places to work.
Friendly staff.
There is a bus stop nearby for easy access to the city centre.
Hotel was nearby the city center. Price was cheap and with that price you shouldn't wait too much. But it was good stay if you want to have place only for sleeping with a low budget.
Great location in the city center, next to the train central station.
Friendly staff.
Good but not exceptional breakfast (I have seen better in cheaper hotels).
Comfortable bed.
Great hotel in a great location in the city center.
Good breakfast, although not that fantastic for the official price indicated (av 28€ per person).
Quiet and very clean rooms.
The hotel has a very good location in Helsinki city centre. The room was nice and clean, staff was helpful. After checkout we could store our luggage there in the lockers.
I had some doubts before arriving this hotel in Helsinki because it was new building but everything was in properly and clear.
Also location was close to city center.
