Royal Britannia Hotel, hotel in Ilfracombe

Located in the picturesque Devonshire town of Illfracombe is the Royal Britannia Hotel.

The room was clean and spacious. Beds were super comfy. I slept like a log and we spent the majority of our time on our beds so the fact that we were comfortable was ideal. Breakfast was filling and freshly cooked. My son had the kippers which made a nice change for him as it's not something usually offered on a breakfast menu. I had the full english as I'm a creature of habit, both of which were just what we needed to set us up for the day and very reasonably priced too. We booked in advance which saved us a couple of pounds but would have happily paid the full price. Christmas day lunch in their sister restaurant was amazing and well worth the price. The staff in both sites were amazing, helpful, polite and courteous.

I highly recommend The Earlsdale Bed and Breakfast! Owners Jim and Lewis’ professionalism, passion, creativity, and attention to detail shined through in everything from the chic design of the B&B, to the vegan and gluten free chocolate that awaited me in my room (custom to my specific dietary restrictions). My room was spacious, luxurious, and comfortable. As an interior designer, I especially appreciated the soothing interior lighting and high end design materials and finishes, all of which came together to blend modern luxury with the unique historical elements of the building. The included breakfast featured a beautifully laid self service station with homemade and locally sourced delicacies. I very much enjoyed the “Full English” that Jim so kindly prepared for me, which accommodated my strict vegan and gluten free diet. I’m confident that my friends who enjoy meat and dairy would have also been very satisfied with the other unassuming, yet elevated hot breakfast offerings. Thank you Jim and Lewis for being such attentive and accommodating hosts! I very much look forward to staying at The Earlsdale again in the future!

The Devonian is a complete delight, the decor, the friendliness, the delicious breakfast, the location. Thank you so much x

Ilfracombe is a lovely place to visit, however please be aware how hilly it is. Walking down to harbour is easy but the return journey can be a bit of a slog. Had gluten free fish and chips from Lynbay fish and chip shop. Gluten free cream tea from St James tea garden. Wasn't overly impressed with the beach as it mainly slate pebbles, but Woolacombe is not far away with golden sands.

Many part of this town including its HIGH STREET are looking terribly run down and rough. So too some pubs ... I'm sure it will perk up in higher season but money needs to be spent on its appearance . The streets felt as safe as most places in Britain and some Bistros and cafes were delightful. Roads are narrow and some extremely vertiginous . Parking can be an issue in high season I guess.

Ilfracombe is worth a visit and is probably better in the summer than when we visited. We preferred Woolacombe and Puttsborough beach is great for surfing. We walked around Baggy Point and saw some amazing views. Well worth a visit.

There were some really lovely parts of Ilfracombe and some not so nice , like most towns . Most of the architecture is stunning with old and new together but some new don't fit in. The scenery on the coast is amazing with lots of craggy coves and you can walk along the South West Coast Path . There is a small harbour where a stunning Damien Hirst statue is of Verity ,Statue of Justice if I remember correctly Parts of Ilfracombe are quite steep but there are slopes and some roads on the flat. We ate Sunday lunch at the Thatched Inn , had Breakfast at the Lime Kiln Cafe down by a cove . We loved it.

Lovely rugged coastline all still very natural.

Lovely rugged coastline all still very natural. The town however was a little disappointing in terms of felt a bit run down and lacking in investment in some areas. Worth a visit altho not too long as I think more useful to use as a base to travel than a holiday in as wasn’t enough to offer.

As we were attending a wedding it was a good location for us but probably not the right time of year for shopping etc as most of the shops were empty or closed down. I'm sure its much better in the summer!

Palm Court is a nice friendly family run hotel. The room was pleasant and a good size. It was clean and comfortable. The hostess was very friendly and helpful. It felt COVID safe. We had our own dedicated table for breakfast and there was a great choice of cooked breakfasts, all cooked to order. Palm Court is ideally situated for access to all the tourist areas in Ilfracombe. There is enough parking for all patrons. The only downside was my car was target practice for the gulls! However you expect this in all seaside towns. Would stay again.

Great location, you can walk down the hill into Ilfracombe easily or hop on the bus with a stop right outside. Tesco just up the hill for provisions, and easy access to roads all around North Devon. Staff are very friendly. Accommodation is basic but comfortable with everything you could need. We didn’t use the on site facilities much but noted an indoor pool and clubhouse which looked fun for families. Makes a great base for exploring North Devon and also for some evenings in Ilfracombe which is fun.

From the moment we arrived till the moment we left both Nicki and Johnah really made our stay special. From going above and beyond with Breakfast due to our dietary requirements to helping us with parking and we’re just always on hand to help. We will definitely be returning to Ilfracombe and wouldn’t stay anywhere else. We had the top floor room with views of the gorgeous town, the room was beautiful decorated and immaculate.

Our room had a sea view which was lovely and the room was a large size. Due to coronavirus the rooms weren't serviced every day, but we were told to ask if we ever needed anything, but we managed just fine. Breakfast was very nice and set us up for the day. The staff were very friendly too. The hotel is a short walk to the harbour, seafront, shops and restaurants. We really enjoyed our stay here

The location is excellent, with stunning views of the harbour from 1 bedroom and direct views of the church in the other. It is very central to everything you want to visit in Ilfracombe. The main lounge was nicely decorated and enjoyable enough for a conversation in the evening, but rather small for dining. There were some lovely lamps in all rooms. The host was lovely and communicative.

The fact ChamberCombe was so close to Hele & Ilfracombe. They were in easy walking distance. The location was very quiet & the Hayloft apartment was detached so we were not having to keep that quiet like we would in a hotel or guest house. Overall it was a very relaxing, enjoyable, restful time which we were both looking for. We would definitely book this apartment again.

Hosts were very organised and helpful, ensuring check in was seamless through a message beforehand detailing self check in information, as well as providing an online information guide about the area. The room was very spacious and comfortable, with a lovely view overlooking Ilfracombe. A short drive into town, or a walk downhill (the walk back is all uphill).
