A nice, but average small town.

A nice, but average small town. Not the town, but the people here impressed us, in terms of politeness and willingness. Their courtesy and the trips we made to rural and coastal areas provided us an overall pleasant stay.

Found it good as a base as it was pretty central so not too far to visit places such as Ilfracombe, Instow, Bideford, Woolacombe. Had a great time at the wildlife and dinosaur park. We love gardens and visited RHS Rosemoor, Taderley Park and Marwood

A charming little town in a beautiful setting. Its central location makes it ideal for transport to the rest of Devon. I had a great time in the town and other interesting sites. It is recommended to bring warm clothing if the weather is windy.

Since my last visit 10 years ago, I found Barnstable to be disappointing. Plenty of shops still there, although no doubt as with other towns, Covid caused quite a few to close permanently. The town is just looking a bit neglected. Buildings need painting, weeds are now growing everywhere; in what used to be lovely gardens and planters around the town, empty buildings now left derelict. The Pannier market is a shadow of its former self. Compared to Bideford, Barnstable is lacking. However it is well placed for exploring the delights of North Devon.

The town is easy to get around and has plenty of places to eat. Sadly the River Taw looks very polluted with brown foam floating down it, which gives the town a rather dilapidated feel. Otherwise a pleasant [place to stay

Bert was the perfect host, we had a cuppa in our hands within 5 minutes and an offer of some roast dinner too 🥰 The room was perfect as was the location. Literally 10 minutes from the town centre. It very much felt like a home from home and everything was so chilled and relaxed, exactly what we were looking for during our stay. Much more personable than staying at a branded chain of hotels and very good value for money. Not only would we highly recommend, we will definitely be coming back later in the year 👍🏻

Perfectly located for the SW Coast Path Walk. Our room was fabulously comfortable. All the usual teas, coffees, tv, etc - but the bed was outstanding...sooo comfortable! The shower was lovely and hot and shampoos, etc were available. The hosts were lovely and the breakfast was wonderful. The hotel itself is right on the corner of a busy junction and it takes you a minute walk to the centre of the town. Highly recommend visiting the Gurkha curry house if you're visiting barnstaple.

Was extremely surprised at the location and the hotel. Staff were great and the room was huge! Literally a 5 minute drive to Barnstaple and north Devon beaches 20 minutes in other direction. Breakfast was a little disappointing, especially for the price of the room but that could just be my personal preferences. Would recommend and would stay again.
