Many families visiting Barnstaple loved staying at The Imperial Hotel, The Park Hotel, and Yeo Dale Hotel.
It has alot of places to sit down and eat somewhere, with good views. It has different styles of shops to suit all ages and cultures. It has good attractions in town such as a big cinema plus queens theatre for good shows, temping bowling place and the tarka trail walks were beautiful. The hotel over looks a beautiful park and taw vale river, the hotel suits its name.
Not a massive town but some lovely independent shops and an old market. A good location for exploring further afield - Croyde and Saunton Sands, Baggy Point, Lynton, Lynmouth and Woolacombe. A good selection of restaurants.
It was a perfect location as we didn’t have Dinner included at our Hotel so we could have a Walk into the town and sample some of the Restaurant and Bar dining options - Also central for sightseeing and hopping on the trains - Enjoyed the Tarka line to Exeter
It was easy to get to places around town. Parking was ok. We went to a nearby beach which had rock pools. Very sandy and busy. Fantastic views and lots of amenities for surfers and bodyboarders. Lifeguards were excellent and completely on the ball with any dangers to alert.
Loved Barnstaple - lovely restaurants, a thriving town on the river with a good atmosphere. Pannier Market was interesting, interesting little shops including a great record shops. Breakfast at Tea on the Taw is recommended, lovely dinner at Clayton & The Glasshouse (eat upstairs in the The Glasshouse - the lamb rump was out of this world). Wonderful beaches nearby - Westward Ho! and Croyde. Devon has very narrow roads between Barnstaple and Woolacombe so the traffic can be awful. Would thoroughly recommend the town as a place to stay.
A typical small town with reasonable facilities. Some problems finding a restaurant but in fairness this was due to restrictions owing to the Corona virus situation .Barnstaple was an ideal base for exploring the surrounding areas eg Crode,Saunton ,Westwood Hoe,Appledore to name but a few.
