Guatemala is a very friendly country, filled with incredible Mayan ruins, exotic birdlife, and stunning volcanoes. We spent time in Flores, Tikal, Antigua, Xela and Lake Atitlan. We also spent several days hiking, including volcano treks and staying with families in homestays, properly experiencing the local communities. Our hike up Acatenango and a night spent watching Volcan de Fuego erupt was one of the most incredible experiences of my life.
We were nervous about the reports of crime but we felt safe the whole time albeit we remained cautious and alert. We travelled on the local buses, and people were always helpful getting us off at the right stop and on to the next correct bus.

Guatemala is just a unique and diverse country, filled with new experiences waiting for you. Unless you take the time to get to know some Guatemalans, it won’t be a complete stay. From Atitlan lake to colonial Antigua, to the coast and up into the Mayan ruins of Tikal, you won’t find a more interesting and friendly country on earth! Traffic is tough in the capital and a bit curvy in the high mountains. Food is always fresh and delicious with beans, rice, corn and fresh fruit always. Check out Santo Domingo in Antigua for the nicest colonial ambience and wedding destination from around the world.

Antigua is a must see when you're in Guatemala.
Antigua is a must see when you're in Guatemala. It's just an hour away, and it is best if you go for a tour guide as they give you a very complete feel of the Guatemalan culture that is mixed of Mayan and Spanish culture
I have stayed several times in Zone 10 in Guatemala City at some of the better-known named hotels. The Inmaculada beat them out easily. The hotel is in a quieter area of Zone 10, still very safe, and about a 5minute walk to the popular Oakland Mall. The staff was friendly and helpful and the room was large and comfortable. There was a small issue with hot water which is not unusual in Guatemala.
The breakfast, which came with my room, was excellent. There were many choices and it was cooked to order. I will definitely stay here again.
When you arrive late in Guatemala City, Villa Toscana is the ideal place to stay for 1 night. This also applies to a late departure. This hotel is located near the airport, easy to reach (the hotel provides transportation) and in a secure environment.
Of course you here some planes flying over...
The nightly reception went very smoothly and in a friendly manner.
In the morning we got a nice breakfast, but the restaurant also offers simple but very tasty meals in the afternoon.
Price-quality completely matches the picture!
Sophie (owner) picked me up from the airport and gave me a lovely mini tour on our way to the hotel. The staff was incredibly helpful too and really nice. The whole space was lovely. The hotel is in great hands and definitely recommend as a place to stay in Guatemala City. Lovely little resting sanctuary in the middle of the city's buzz.
Lovely local style breakfast. Will definitely start adding some beans to my regular brekkie.
We had a large, comfortable room with a king size bed and sleeper sofa which was perfect for the 3 of us. The safe and refrigerator were great additions to the room. The hotel was lovely, very clean and in a great area of the city. We walked around the neighborhood at night and felt very safe. It was a short taxi ride away from different malls and restaurants. Nice pool on the third floor with cute outdoor bar.
Excellent stay for our first trip to Guatemala. Its Near the airport. The hotel has a shopping center inside and eating places so you don't have to leave. They have a buffet breakfast, we didn't get to enjoy because of our travel plans but definitely a plus. The rooms come with a beautiful view of the city. The staff were helpful. This hotel is very beautiful & elegant. The hotel is family friendly.
My flight was a very late arrival, the shuttle driver met me at the airport, and the hotel staff was very welcoming. The room was really comfortable, and breakfast was very pleasant. As an exhausted traveler, Hotel Mariana was bright spot in a very long journey fraught with delays. Looking forward to staying with them on our next visit to Guatemala City.
This hotel was super nice! Everything was great: someone picked me up from the airport after my flight, it's super close to the airport, the host arranged a shuttle to Antigua for me, communication was fast and clear, a nice breakfast was included and they were super friendly. The room was perfect for me and comfortable! Thank you :)
This hotel is in Zona uno which a lovely and very lively historic district in Guatemala City. The hotel is in a safe area, within walking distance to the restaurants & shops on the Sexta Avenida. The hotel is clean and a well maintained historic property with many beautiful furnishings and antiques.
Quiet and pretty courtyard with lovely plants. Close (walking distance for us) to excellent museums and various restaurants. Staff was friendly and helpful by arranging a friendly ride to the airport at a much too early time in the morning. We would stay there again if in Guatemala City!
Needed an extra night in Guatemala City. The host is quick to respond and has been super helpful! I was so impressed with my first stay I quickly booked with Robert again when I found out I was staying an additional night in the city. Great place! Highly recommend!
A very very clean and cosy house with a great view over the aerea south Guatemala-City.
Although near to the airport no noise! A quiet place!
Hot showers
Very safe. Shops in the neighbourhod.
Busstation nearby.
Very wonderful and helpful people .!!!
The atmosphere of the restaurant on the 7th floor really wowed me. Beautiful design! Also, we are really grateful to the hotel staff for allowing us to store our bags while we explored Guatemala City during the day before our flight late at night.
- Close to the airport
- Clean and spacious bedroom
- They arranged shuttle service for us from Guatemala city to Panajachel
- Multiple days after check-out, we could also leave our baggage when flying to Flores (Tikal) for a short period
Seemed like a fairly new hotel. Rooms were decorated in a modern way. Very comfortable beds. Breakfast has a good spread of options, both Guatemalan and continental. For a short stay in Guatemala City would defintely recommend.
Shuttle service to the airport; most hotels in the city do not have this service anymore. Also, the reservations staff are very helpful, easy to reach and quick to reply. Contact-free checkout is a great idea these days.
The Westin is an incredible hotel. It offers everything you would need for a short stay and is close to the airport while also being near the city centre. The room was clean, staff very friendly and food was delicious.
Communication with the host was fine. Of course I had to googletranslate not only my messages but also my host's messages. Location is good to see real Guatemala City, walking distance to the Culture Palace.
I just stayed there for a night when transiting through Guatemala City and both, the pickup from and the drop off to the airport worked perfectly, although I arrived almost at midnight and left at 6 a.m.
The staff was very nice, the facility was very clean. it was in a gated neighborhood. We felt very safe in the middle of Guatemala City. And it was so convenient to have a close to the airport.
