Guatemala is a very friendly country, filled with incredible Mayan ruins, exotic birdlife, and stunning volcanoes. We spent time in Flores, Tikal, Antigua, Xela and Lake Atitlan. We also spent several days hiking, including volcano treks and staying with families in homestays, properly experiencing the local communities. Our hike up Acatenango and a night spent watching Volcan de Fuego erupt was one of the most incredible experiences of my life.
We were nervous about the reports of crime but we felt safe the whole time albeit we remained cautious and alert. We travelled on the local buses, and people were always helpful getting us off at the right stop and on to the next correct bus.

Guatemala is just a unique and diverse country, filled with new experiences waiting for you. Unless you take the time to get to know some Guatemalans, it won’t be a complete stay. From Atitlan lake to colonial Antigua, to the coast and up into the Mayan ruins of Tikal, you won’t find a more interesting and friendly country on earth! Traffic is tough in the capital and a bit curvy in the high mountains. Food is always fresh and delicious with beans, rice, corn and fresh fruit always. Check out Santo Domingo in Antigua for the nicest colonial ambience and wedding destination from around the world.

Antigua is a must see when you're in Guatemala.
Antigua is a must see when you're in Guatemala. It's just an hour away, and it is best if you go for a tour guide as they give you a very complete feel of the Guatemalan culture that is mixed of Mayan and Spanish culture
The rooms are new and big, the hotel’s facilities are good and well maintained. The restaurant is fine and the breakfast is great. The location is perfect as Zone 10 seems quite safe and there is a very good shopping center just next to the hotel (accessible by the main entrance) and with a lot of different good restaurants options. If you need to move around Guatemala City or you need to arrange business trips you can arrange everything through the front desk (highly recommended).
It is such a nice hotel! with the garden and all the plants you don’t feel as you are in a big city. is a little oasis. the staff was amazing so helpful. Breakfast in the rooftop is just amazing. location is great, 10 minute ride to airport, safe location and close to restaurants and bars. also there is a huge mall (Oakland) 5 minute walk. The room was super nice and comfortable.
It’s my second time staying at this hostel. I arrived really early but they let me check in as soon as someone checked out and the bed was ready which was around 7 am. So I really appreciated this gesture from the receptionist! Everyone is really friendly and super helpful there. I definitely can recommend this place and surely will be back once I’m in Guatemala City again.
A middle-sized hotel in a quiet corner of Zona 10 in Guatemala City. The hotel is built in colonial style and the interior of the rooms is also kept in a colonial style, but the rooms are not as dark as other hotels of similar type. The hotel staff is exceptionally accommodating and fulfills even the most unusual requests. Overall, one of the best hotels in Guatemala City.
My flight was a very late arrival, the shuttle driver met me at the airport, and the hotel staff was very welcoming. The room was really comfortable, and breakfast was very pleasant. As an exhausted traveler, Hotel Mariana was bright spot in a very long journey fraught with delays. Looking forward to staying with them on our next visit to Guatemala City.
We had a one night stay in Barcelo while transiting through Guatemala City. The hotel was larger than expected, and comfortable. We were going to visit a local restaurant about 7-10 minutes walk away, but were advised against it on safety grounds. So instead we ate the in their onsite Strikers restaurant which was surprisingly good food and good value.
Villa Toscana is a lovely place to stay. I needed to be near the airport during my trip and this was the perfect spot. It is in a secure, gated community in Guatemala City with a very attentive and helpful staff. The garden area downstairs is perfect for reading a book, relaxing or for taking breakfast. By the way, the breakfast included is fantastic.
Room was super spacious and bed was enormous and so comfortable. We got picked up from the airport and they also coordinated our transfer to Antigua. Staff were really friendly and the breakfast was good. Would definitely recommended for anyone arriving into Guatemala City Airport in the evening as the hotel is less that 5min drive from the airport.
This hotel was super nice! Everything was great: someone picked me up from the airport after my flight, it's super close to the airport, the host arranged a shuttle to Antigua for me, communication was fast and clear, a nice breakfast was included and they were super friendly. The room was perfect for me and comfortable! Thank you :)
The location is near both a fancy mall but also near normal Guatemalan city areas with both "American" and local food options. Location is easy to find and walk around, grocery store in the mall is super handy. Also near a nice strip club if that is your thing. 30-40 min walk to downtown straight shot. Very handy.
This hotel is in Zona uno which a lovely and very lively historic district in Guatemala City. The hotel is in a safe area, within walking distance to the restaurants & shops on the Sexta Avenida. The hotel is clean and a well maintained historic property with many beautiful furnishings and antiques.
The location, staff, room, everything was perfect. Actually, I had a problem when I was in Guatemala City, the manager and staffs were very kind and helped me a lot. I was sad to lose my phone and bag, but it became a good memory through their kindness. I strongly recommend you this hostel.
Very convenient hotel to travel in and out of Guatemala, 2 minutes from the airport. Friendly staff that were happy to do airport transfers at all hours and helped us get a driver to Antigua even after check-out. Basic, clean, decent rooms. Nice breakfast. All in all value for money.
Spent a night here to cope with our jetlag after travelling from Europe and to spend a day exploring Guatemala City's historic centre. Did the job, slept like roses for 12h. Location is great for exploring zona 1. Beautiful green patio. Only a 15min drive by taxi from the airport.
The hotel is extremely close to the airport, which was extremely convenient as my flight arrived quite late in the night. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating - I would recommend this to anyone traveling through Guatemala City.
We were just there for a quick overnight stop between buses and wish we'd stayed longer. We met the friendliest people during out short stay in Guatemala City, who went above and beyond to help us - Including Hugo, our host.
Lovely, clean hostel with very friendly staff and delicious breakfast. I sprained my ankle on my first day in Guatemala City and Ernesto went above and beyond to help me. His English is impeccable. Highly recommended!
I just stayed there for a night when transiting through Guatemala City and both, the pickup from and the drop off to the airport worked perfectly, although I arrived almost at midnight and left at 6 a.m.
Very cozy cute and clean hotel in a safe surrounding which was only a one hour walk or 15 minutes drive by Uber to the city centre.
The staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very good :))
Very quiet and clean hotel. The bed was super comfy - I had one of the best sleeps there in days. Restaurant was also great; friendly staff, delicious food, and amazing city views.
