It is a pleasant town.
It is a pleasant town. The historic center is small and the walk takes only a few minutes. The town itself is quite large. The waterfront is very pleasant and there are many restaurants, bars, hotels, cafes, souvenir and clothing shops. If you want to spend a lot of time by the water, it is advisable to find accommodation close by, because towards the interior the town is built uphill so walking can be difficult. A few days are enough to get to know the destination, but the town is excellent as a starting point for further trips by car/boat/scooter/bike. On the waterfront, guides offer various trips. We recommend a trip to the nearby town of Sirmione. In case of any trips, we recommend doing them in the morning hours because around lunchtime the attractions are already crowded. As for restaurants, the prices of meals are on average 20-30€. There are several supermarkets and small shops in the town.Guest review byMichaelaSlovakia - 8.0

Great base to explore Lake Garda, especially without a car: easily accessible by train and buses (from Milan, Verona, Brescia, etc). All ferries to different points of interest in Lake Garda leave from Desenzano so it’s very convenient. Desenzano is a great place definitely worth a visit, lofts of fantastic bars and restaurants. You can get the ferry to all parts of Lake Garda from here. Also it has a train station which is a bonus. Lovely little town on the Lake Garda. Very easy to reach by train (we took a train from Milan). Great to travel around the Lake Garda - ferries from morning to evening to different places. Desenzano del Garda is a small town at the banks of Lake Garda. Maybe its not the most beautiful town of Garda but it has picturesque narrow streets, port with good connection to other coastal towns and several excellent restaurants. In my opinion, its a very good starting point for exploring of Lago di Garda because its the closest town to Bergamo international airport. I was here in July but for those who do not keen on swimming in lake the best time for visit is April / May or September / October. For trips I would recommend Sirmione, Bardolino and Salo.
