Gallipoli is really beautiful.
Gallipoli is really beautiful. There is the old town which is very touristy. It is nice to walk around, buy souvenirs or get lunch/dinner. The beach is nice but crowded. Outside of the old town (on other side of the bridge), there are more locals and the prices are cheaper for lunch/dinner/drinks. There is a long avenue with nice shops and places to eat. I stayed in the old town (5-minute walk from the beach) and it was perfect. The only annoying thing is that taxis cannot enter the old town. It was difficult to bring our suitcases from the train station up into the old town. It was a 20-minute walk in very hot weather. When leaving Gallipoli, we ordered a taxi but the taxi can only come as far as the bridge, so we still had to walk for 10 minutes with our cases. This was difficult in the heat with cobblestones and small paths or streets. Gallipoli is very walkable and easy to get around. It is nice to do a walk along the seafront at night and there are lots of nice bars and restaurants.Guest review byEdieKKIreland - 10.0

Amazing city, the only problem is Car parking space, if you want to stay in the historic center, this is the place as it is close to everything. The host was very polite and help us with very nice tips. Gallipoli is one of the most beautiful places in Apulia. Only perhaps Lecce and Matera can compete with it, but both of those places lack the close by seaside that Gallipoli features. In Gallipoli you can spend your day enjoying dolce far niente at the beach and go and dine in one of the many great restaurants in town. The town, built onto an island on the waterfront, is very neat and developed out of medieval times and has many well maintained old and beautiful buildings. Low key and relaxed. Didn’t need dinner reservations bc there are so many great eateries! Very easy to get around. Always felt safe. La Grotto delicious Gusto is a great place to enjoy a delicious, but not overpriced, dinner. Beach was accessible. Rental chairs not expensive. Parking free on edge of old town. We wanted to stay in Gallipoli for the fresh seafood, the location and the beach. It can be very windy so check which side of the island you prefer and if you want to see the sunset from your accommodation. The fish market has been closed down by the authorities but there are very many restaurants serving seafood - check reviews. There is a tendency to serve the fish raw and we had to check menus before booking. There are very many bars where you can enjoy a drink with a superb view. The town gets quite busy in the main areas during the day from day trippers and tour groups but it is quieter in the evenings. The churches, fort and back lanes are a delight to wander in. It’s not a large island but it’s certainly worthy of a three night stay or longer if you want a beach holiday. It’s a perfect destination for families with small children as the beach is easily accessible on foot and the water is calm and shallow with a gradual fall. Baia verde beaches are 5mins by car and also there are also beaches 5mins walk from the hotel. The b&b is close to Gallipoli downtown (25-30min walk /5 mins by car) and in the area we always fund free parking. This is a big plus because in old town/center of Gallipoli could be very hard to park. We are happy we did not have any stres to find parking,thing that can be annoyng especially when is very hot.
