Location 2 blocks from the sea, park across the street, near marina.
This is a budget hotel-- with that in mind, it was excellent. It is basic, but clean and comfortable. Single rooms (which our friends had) have bathrooms with collapsible shower stalls that work in very small space. Some reviews complain about this--but our friends ( seasoned travellers) found it adequate.
Staff are welcoming and gracious.

Imagine a holiday back in time, to those cheerful and self-indulgent Belle Époque years. Viareggio is one of those Riviera-style resorts where you can still feel that spirit in the air. Situated in the heart of northern Tuscany’s ‘Versilia Coast’, it is composed of Art Nouveau and Art Deco buildings, tranquil sandy beaches, and stylish shops and restaurants.
Located 80 km from the beautiful ‘5 Terre’ and 100 km from Florence, Viareggio’s first two beach resorts were opened already in the 1820’s. Its famous carnival begun in 1873, and since the 1920’s a huge parade along the seafront promenade is encompassed by concerts, theatre plays and masked balls. If you’re planning to visit this area of Italy during carnival, check the availability for hotels in Viareggio in advance.
Being a beach resort, summer is king here, and the spirit of the 20’s gets back to life showing the new trends in style. The historic hotels of Viareggio revive, and the promenade goes one more time through its seasonal ritual.
The city is 26 km from Pisa International Airport and is serviced by the local railway station. Before planning your Versilia holiday, check out the hotel deals on Booking.com!

It’s a gorgeous seaside resort, with beautiful beaches and excellent restaurants. You can walk for miles and still see the ocean. Away from the promenade, there are excellent bars, restaurants and nice shops.
It’s well worth staying and you can use the area as a hub for train travel to La Spezia, Pisa and Florence.
We extended our stay in Viareggio because it was so good!

Viareggio is a place where you can just sit back and relax on the beach and has beach bars which were reasonably priced for food and drink so you don’t need to leave the beach!! Fantastic restraunts on the promanade and a great place to base yourself for places like cinque terra , Genoa , la spezia lucca and pisa which are all a short train ride away .

Beautiful sunsets across the beach area.
Beautiful sunsets across the beach area. Walk along the pier and find more places to eat which are cheaper. Book restaurants in advance. Make sure you have lunch when its lunch time, shop kitchens do close early. Dinner starts around 8:30pm onwards if you go out. Book a taxi as you will not find one in the street easily, they mostly hang out at the train station. Hard to get info on the buses but they are there if you can understand Italian. Know your prices as they spot tourist a mile away. You can catch a train easily to see other areas but give yourself plenty of time 😊

Viareggio is a fantastic place, sea and mountains, close to cities of art such as Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Garfagnana, the Cinque Terre in Liguria. You can enjoy a holiday in absolute relaxation, practice sporting activities, beautiful bike rides from Viareggio to Forte dei Marmi along the sea, or nightlife in the clubs and discos of Versilia.

The beach is great, but most of it is sectioned off among private operators who charge for a spot under an umbrella. I was expecting this, so not the end of the world. There is a scrap of "public" beach right down the end, but without transport, that wasn't really an option.
Lunch bites were good from a couple of pizza places that sell by the slice. Evening dining was generally expensive, about £50 for two.
Lots of gelato stores - at a price.
Lots of posh shops. Canal/harbour was interesting. Hiring bikes and cycling round park was fun.
Not a lot of "culture". There is a big historic tower - which was shut. Art gallery also shutso we had a day trip to Cinque Terre on the train.
Fantastic location right on the beach , beautiful hotel and amazingly attentive staff - treat you like a celebrity . Breakfast was a very comprehensive buffet either meats , cheeses , fruits , juices , fabulous pastries as well as hot eggs, bacon , sausages, bread selection and Prosecco too !
Lovely classical decor too but the best thing is the rooftop bar and terrace overlooking the beach and strip with the most stunning sunsets . Great cocktails and food upstairs too - makes for a magical evening . Will definitely come back soon .
1) great location - very close to the beach! beach is fantastic, facing the sun in the afternoon, with lovely dawns. the showers are right there on the beach, just a couple of meters from water! and on top of that, mountains are visible in the distance.
2) superb long promenade in parallel to the beach, with shops and everything. great walking experience!
3) shops and supermarket nearby. train station is at 1km distance, we walked 20 min and it was a nice walk really;
4) welcoming host, eagerly helped us with our requests.
Convenient location to train and bus stop and beach area. Quaint and charming older style hotel. It has no lift but owner had someone to help carry our bags to our room. Very neat and clean in bedroom. Lovely balcony with old style shutter doors. AC worked very well. Breakfast was a delicious mix of cheeses, meats, and pastries, yogurt, cereals. Cappuccino, tea, of coffee americano. Staff was great. Spoke very little English but we managed. Overall great stay and would recommend.
The breakfast was amazing- thank you for the variety! I came to the hotel on crutches after a bike accident. The wonderful owner asked if I needed a wheelchair-she could lend me one🤗. I was able to enjoy Viareggio while my husband pushed me around in the chair. THANK YOU for the generous attention. Thank you for the coffee at night on the patio - it was the perfect end to our day! i wish you a prosperous summer season after a tough two years!
Everything is so nice. The people were nice, the room was clean. And the breakfast, for Italy, it was very good and it was served on the rooftop with an amazing view of the sea and beach. The hotel is across the beach. There are many restaurants near the hotel and the bus station is right in the front.
If we are planning another trip to Viareggio for sure we are going to stay to the same hotel.
Absolutely marvelous place! Cosy, clean, comfortable house for family vacations.Close to the main promenade with lots of cafes, restaurants and shops. Rita, the host, is very helpful and gave us a lot of useful information. There is everything you need in the house, and you feel like at home! Made with love. Hope there is a chance to visit Viareggio again and stay at this nice place.
We had a very nice stay at Hotel Ondina in Viareggio. The Hotel is super central, 100 Meter from the beach and 200 meter from the haven. the lovely host of the hotel has always very helpful tipps for restaurants or anything else and as well can reservate umbrellas at the beach and organize parking tickets for your car.
Nice and cozy hotel with some charme and outstanding hosts.
- Friendly staff member pointed us to the larger, but more distant free beach in the south.
- Convenient: We had an air conditioned room in the 4th floor and the hotel has a lift.
- Fair: yes, parking is 10€/day and a free space is not too easy to find. But that's to be expected at this location.
btw: I don't get why others praise the coffee - it was ok, but IMHO not more.
perfect location across from the sea. our room had a splendid view. the building the hotel is located is a very appealing architectural design. The owner was very pleasant and accommodating. the value for what we paid was exceptional!
Really enjoyed our stay. Fantastic apartment with everything you need. Stunning views of the sea and mountains. Visited with our family and had the best time. Great location practically on the beach and close to all the restaurants.
What a year we all had! I missed travelling, Italy and staying in this charming place just enhanced the whole Tuscany experience, close to train station to get to Florence, Lucca.. Or just to enjoy a day on the Viareggio beach..
Viareggio is a place that we enjoy coming to and over the years we have stayed at various hotels. Hotel President is another excellent hotel to stay at.The breakfast selection is excellent and plentiful.
Very nice renovated hotel. Lovely room, although no daylight.. Seems to be normal in Italy to have blinders on the balcony doors which cannot be opened. Good breakfast.
The property itself is a landmark. The luxury built into the hotel is incredible. Even the elevator ride is fascinating with a video view of Viareggio.
