Hotel Palazzo Alexander is a historic building in the center of Lucca, with easy access from Porta San Donato. Rooms come with free Wi-Fi and air conditioning, and the staff is multilingual.
One of the best places we have ever stayed in in Italy. Palazzo Alexander is a beautiful and very friendly place with attention to detail. You could feel that this hotel is family owned. From the moment we entered the door we were met by a both friendly and professional atmosphere. We felt so welcome and cared for all through our four nights stay. Our room was spacious and - very important as Lucca was going through a cold snap - properly insulated and heated; this can sometimes be an issue in hotels in Italy, but not here. The included breakfast was sumptious: Besides a well equipped buffet they brought us freshly cooked eggs and bacon, freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee and a selection of local cold cuts straight from the kitchen to our table. One night as we were on our way out for dinner the rain was belting down and we didn't have an umbrella (forget it in Pisa); the friendly receptionist just lent us his - thank you!

Set at the foot of the Monti Pisani hills, this 19th-century hunting lodge offers a summer outdoor pool and a Renaissance garden. The historic center of Lucca is 3.1 mi away.
It is absolutely very nice with a beautiful garden.
Once Italy’s 2nd largest city-state, elegant Lucca remains an important town on any itinerary in beautiful Tuscany. Its instantly recognizable historic center is completely surrounded by Renaissance-era walls which offer a leisurely "passeggiata."
Tree-lined bastions overlook the surrounding modern town, but their low height means that the best photo opportunities of medieval Lucca are from Torre Guinigi. This tower topped with trees overlooks the rooftops below and lush mountains beyond.
The bell tower of San Frediano is even taller and stands back from the elaborate gold mosaic adorning the church’s façade. Equally interesting is Lucca Cathedral’s façade, where every column is unique. The church of San Michele in Foro is on the site of the Roman forum, and the Domus Romana excavations are of a house from a similar era.
Roman amphitheater remains also form foundation stones of the medieval houses, cafés and shops of oval-shaped Piazza Anfiteatro. More sidewalk restaurants line Piazza Napoleone, Lucca’s largest square, around the corner from San Giovanni church, home to a festival celebrating Puccini, the town’s most famous son. Unsurprisingly, music is a big thing here, and summer and winter festivals showcase genres other than just opera.
Booking.com’s range of Lucca accommodations includes apartments, B&Bs and 5-star hotels. Properties are available near the train station, and some include swimming pools and parking.
Lucca is really beautiful. A lovely place to visit for 1-2 days maximum. It's a really small town but with beautiful sites to see and lovely little streets with shops. Highly recommend you visit the amfiteatro, the main square and go down every little street you find.
When people come to visit I always suggest a stay in Lucca. It has a great vibe, walking or biking the wall is peaceful and enjoyable, great restaurants with traditional Tuscan food, beautiful cathedrals, nightly Puccini concerts! Many shops some of which have craftsman that sell their splendid leather or wool goods.
Loved Lucca and our accomodation was perfect for us. We were so close to all we wanted to see and do . I loved all the history and the beautiful Cathedrels, Music by Puccini and his home and the easy walking from beautiful gardens with 200 year old trees to lovely restaurants my favorite was Enoteca Tosca. So in all a lovely time for both of us.
Lucca is a city not for everyone. It is for people who want to "live" the life of an Italian. It is slow-paced, full of rich history, and wonderful people who will engage when they see you more than once. After visiting a wonderful restaurant in the amphitheater, we became good friends with a manager and have kept in touch for a few years now. Walking the 3-mile wall every day opened our eyes to a better way of life, a life we bring home with us. So, visit for a day with some tour group and miss what Lucca offers, or stop and stay awhile. I guarantee you won't be sorry!
A lovely walled city & generally worth a visit for a day. A bit too commercialised in places and you have a to be on your guard with regards to some establishments, they clearly see tourists as "cash cows". As long as you avoid some "tourist trap" restaurants and choose the ones the locals use, you will have a good time. The area around the train station has some undesirable characters, so you need to be aware and use some common sense in this area.
The apartment is beautiful, very spacious, and centrally located. The air conditioner did not work; however, we were sightseeing during the day and it was cool at night. David, our host, came back at 9:30 pm to fix the internet problem, called a taxi, and recommended restaurants. We loved staying in Lucca!!
The apartment couldn't have been in a better location and our host Claudia was very helpful with parking and local information. Lucca is a beautiful city and this hotel looks directly into the main piazza, its close to shopping and plenty of restaurants. The apartment is very spacious and the beds are comfortable. In the evening we were worried about the live music playing outside in the piazza keeping us awake, but when we shut the windows you couldn't hear a thing! We would highly recommend!
Lucca
I highly recommend this property literally a few minutes walk from the old town. The owners are friendly and helpful. Parking on site was a bonus. My room was spacious, light, spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished in traditional Tuscan style. The bathroom was modern and the shower excellent. The bed worthy of a 5 star hotel, I slept so well! Breakfast overlooking the garden was delicious. Very good value for money and an excellent base for exploring Lucca and surrounds. I hope to return!
The hotel is outside of gothic center, but it gives you a lot of more. So close to all amenities. The hotel is not so big but very comfortable with the size, great pool and amazing staff - Thank you Fabio!!! A lot of good advises. We parked the car in front of the hotel, no charge. Lucca is the great destination for people who are looking quite spot but close enough to the beach and slo great walking old town experience. Bikers - don’t forget to visit small towns at the hills.
We knew this hotel was outside the walls of Lucca (we had a car and didn't want to risk staying inside the wall and driving through a ZTL) but were pleasantly surprised at how close it was to the wall itself, not much of a walk at all. Our first room was fine though a bit small, but they upgraded us to a larger room when it became available. The front desk staff were helpful throughout our stay, especially when we had a toll-road problem.
Lucca
A super comfortable place, the hospitality and kindness of the man who received us is unforgettable. During the mornings they have an exquisite breakfast and he is the one who serves it, making it a very pleasant company. Lucca was one of our favorite towns to visit in Italy, not being very big, the location of this place is very good. I recommend it 100%!
Lucca
Large variety of sweet and salty choices for the breakfast. Coffee as it has to be in Italy, full flavour and hot. Location only 5 min from old town wall and all the sights of the city. Friendly host Luca was able to give us great recommendations for restaurants. Lucca town excellent place to find the core of Tuscan excellent food tradition
Charming hotel with a wonderful staff. Their breakfast is probably the best in Italy. Even got fried eggs and bacon. The room was lovely and spacious. The bathroom is a little small but has everything you need. It was a delightful place to stay. They parked our car and retrieved it when we wanted to go outside Lucca’s walls.
Everything! The host is gem of a person. Very accomodating and helpful. He let us check in as early as 11 AM. The beautiful garden where you take a complimentary coffee soaking the sun. Location very central and everything in Lucca is minutes away. Can't recommend enough! Our best stay in mainland Italy.
Beautiful property just outside of Lucca’s center (just a 5 min drive). Warm, sincere service; big breakfast buffet; gorgeous grounds and beautifully decorated hotel; beautiful swimming pool amongst the olive trees. Rooms were simple and very comfortable. We loved our stay here.

Great location with all ammenities close by, short walk to central Lucca inside the walls. Perfect for us having been away for 5 weeks now to be able to cook basic meals. Very spacious, lift for luggage and car parking included.
This is the apartment in Italy we all wish we lived in. It’s elegantly decorated and spacious. Right in the center of the beautiful walled city of Lucca. We can’t wait to return!
Very nice hotel. It was clean, comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was one of the best we had from a hotel during our stay in Italy.
It’s beautiful! very unique boutique hotel. The staff is very kind and helpful. I’ve stayed here several times. It’s my favorite hotel in Lucca!!
