Again, all day snacks are available plus 5:30-7pm happy hour wine. Breakfast was great and the staff was exceedingly helpful with dinner recommendations and reservations. Lucca is a wonderful place to stay. We made it our home base and traveled to Pisa and Florence. We plan on going back as it is centrally located to visit other great cities. It is a beautiful medieval city that you can escape to and enjoy Italy while traveling to bigger cities.
Lucca is wonderful and has many ingredients for a great holiday. It is easy to navigate on foot with plenty of shops, restaurants, churches and interesting places to visit. It has a rich history and culture which is fascinating to discover. The Palazzo Pfanner and the Botanical Gardens are worth a visit as is the nightly opera performance which is a memorable experience. If Lucca is not enough there is plenty to see and do within easy striking distance and the bus and train network is good and relatively inexpensive. I can’t wait to go back!
Lucca is a lovely compact historical walled town. It has many up market clothing shops , historical buildings and plenty of places to eat. There is a walkway along the top of the walls which is suitable for walking or cycling . The area can walked round easily in a day and is a very pleasant place to spend some time .
Lucca is a pretty historical and quaint town within city walls , within it has beautiful churches , museums , piazzas , cafes , artisan shops , local gourmet delicacy favourites such as their truffles , book shops with cafes , designer boutiques and funky arty shops plus more . It was last week of May , yet very busy with tourists and very hot , so I don’t think I experienced the true flavour of the town and it’s locals but rather following a tour operator or navigating around them in narrow winding lanes . There is a cycle and walk path around the circumference of the old town , which was refreshing for a breather and to capture nature , with a Parkview on one side and the architectural building facades on the boundary of walls and town offering another perspective . This walk and cycle path , was open , airy ,a lovely atmosphere of people going for a stroll , jogging , cycling , laying on the lawn .Then further out from the park and the old city and it’s walls , I enjoyed walking around the neighbourhoods , they were lined with established trees, beautiful residential homes with varying facades , guest houses with colourful manicured gardens , no crowds , wider streets , no noisy bars and restaurants , plenty of parking , room to cycle , this appealed more to me than the busy , narrow lanes within the wall if I were stay there again at a busy season . What’s more every thing within the wall , the museums and historical points of interest are only minutes walking distance and there are several entry points from the outside .
Don't expect a "hidden gem:" But everywher's been ruined by overexposure on social Media by now anyway!!!!😢 SO!!! if you like a place completely overrun with Americans and feel " At Home" with them this is the place for you!!!!! I attended a language school.. a lot of Americans but fortunately I discovered that there are some friendly, intelligent and not overbearingly loud ones.. Us Ausies are pretty bad but... OMG!!!! It's a beautiful city but it's high on everyones "must do" list after one has "done" Firenze, Venezia, Costa Amalfitana etc etc.... go in the off season!!! April & October..May and September are already horendous.
Lucca is a magnificient old walled city. It is possible walk around the walls which have wide pathways and multiple points of access. At various points next to the walls there are bicycle hire shops offering traditional cycles as well as 2 seater and 4 (+) seater four wheeled cycles for those that prefer not to walk. The railway station is easily accessible from the old town and trains to Pisa, Viareggio, Florence etc. are frequent, comfortable and very reasonably priced. Well done Trenitalia. We found italian craft beer (bottled) at Cafe Del Duomo in Piazza San Giovanni as well as good food. We also had several meals (lunch and dinner) at Ristorante Pizzeria K2 (La Triestina, Via Anfiteatro 107) which we would highly recommend both for the food and the friendliness of the staff. Indeed, we had meals at many places in Lucca, as well as Pisa, Viareggio and Torre del Lago and all were very good. I would go back and eat at any of them again. Lucca itself is well worth taking the time to explore and with the easy tranport links you can readily visit the busier nearby cities. LUCA is highly recommend.
Lucca
The apartment has an excellent location, within easy walking distance of all the sights in Lucca. It is spacious (plenty of room for our multigenerational party of 6 people), very well equipped and very clean. We like to cook when we visit Italy, and this apartment had the best equipped kitchen we have seen so far. Despite an early unseasonal heatwave, the appartment was cool and we didn't need any aircon. The host, Margherita, was extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome. We can heartily recommend this apartment!
We had an amazing stay at this charming small boutique hotel full of character and history. The room (for 3 people) was spacious and the bathroom as well and very peaceful. All very clean and with stylish furniture. We enjoyed the breakfast in the morning sitting in the inside garden / patio. Location is perfect - right in the center of beautiful Lucca so nearby lots of restaurants, cafes and shops. Stuff is friendly and helpful and we received a warm welcome from the night Receptionist. We would like to go back!
Superbe boutique hôtel on the rolling hills of Tuscany near the lovely village of Lucca. The hotel has stunning views, especially from the pool. The hotel is extremely peaceful. It’s very calming. Our suite was very large with a seating area (with a rollup couch), a very large bedroom and a very dreamy bathroom. Tv's in both seating and bedroom areas. Pool towels are available in the room. We did not have a balcony but the view was amazing. The staff is kind, generous, extremely helpful and professional.
Lucca
I highly recommend this property literally a few minutes walk from the old town. The owners are friendly and helpful. Parking on site was a bonus. My room was spacious, light, spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished in traditional Tuscan style. The bathroom was modern and the shower excellent. The bed worthy of a 5 star hotel, I slept so well! Breakfast overlooking the garden was delicious. Very good value for money and an excellent base for exploring Lucca and surrounds. I hope to return!
Lucca
Lovely location on outskirts of Lucca - 20 min cycle into lucca. Staff very friendly & welcoming and helpful This is a house / bnb that also runs campsite in grounds, with pool Breakfast in garden was served to your table - endless supply of different Italian breakfast items - omelette to fruit yogurt bread cake toasted sandwich! Delicious & relaxing but felt it was also maybe a waste if we didn’t eat it all Bikes to hire were great
The room was big and there is free wifi as well as free water. The shower is not small, good shower room. There is a big flat screen TV in the room and good air conditioning. The hotel is clean and very nice. Breakfast was okay, though not many variety to choose from. They have a restaurant within the premise so if you do not want to go out, you may dine there. Lucca is also very close by and only 10 mins by car.
The staff were friendly and gave great advice. The location is outside the city wall but close to a gate. This made it ideal in many ways. We travel with a particular car and are always confronted with parking issues. Our last hotel boasted an underground car park , and though the staff were wonderful the car could not enter due to the ramp angle. Here in Celide there was zero problem.
The pool was our favorite part about the hotel! The rooms were OK, cleaned well, and the beds were comfortable. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The daily breakfast was a nice to have and was enjoyable. The hotel is about a 15-20 minute drive to Pisa, and 10 minute drive to Lucca. We were in town for a wedding and this hotel was perfectly located next door to the venue.
We loved the location and ease of accessing the old town of Lucca. Francesco and Fabio were wonderful staff and both went out of their way to make our stay special. we hired bikes provided by the hotel and rode around the old town and it was a very special experience. Francesco gave great recommendations. breakfast was buffet and very tasty. will definitely stay again ☺️
Lucca
Large variety of sweet and salty choices for the breakfast. Coffee as it has to be in Italy, full flavour and hot. Location only 5 min from old town wall and all the sights of the city. Friendly host Luca was able to give us great recommendations for restaurants. Lucca town excellent place to find the core of Tuscan excellent food tradition
The staff are fantastic! They are very friendly and welcoming. The location couldn't be better. On the edge of old town; 1 min walk and you're there. Quiet, safe. Italy won't allow running air conditioning before May 1, so they brought me a fan :) Breakfast is extended continental. Very tasty, and there is plenty to get you going.
Lucca is an exceptionally lovely town, the Grand Universe overlooks the main piazza, views from our window enchanting. All meals including breakfast were the best ever, and very reasonably priced. The staff were also outstanding. We loved that the hotel had the feel of a boutique hotel...not too big and very special.
Lucca
Good location durectly in the old town of lucca. Parking is possible directly by the hotel or for free at the outside of the old town, 10min walk. Very friendly and helpful stuff. Breakfast was good, everything you need to start in the day
Lucca
Clean, comfortable, luxurious, professional staff, best accommodation so far in Italy. They thought of all the toiletries and comforts you could like, and went the extra mile to really make it feel like a 5 star hotel.
This is an elegant, friendly hotel with a fantastic location - right in the heart of Old Town Lucca. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast is wonderful. It is very clean. Great value for you money.
Lucca is amazing. You gotta check it out. Fortress city. Hotel staff were very courteous. Food and bar delicious. Free parking on the grounds is excellent.
Great location in Lucca. Hotel simple but very well maintained. I would stay there again.
