The property is very, very nice, staff is simply amazing, position is perfect! The Spa area is the cherry on the cake, as it is the restaurant next door (same name). It’s been a while since I last enjoyed this much a stay in a hotel! Totally recommend it, great value for money! P.S. Even our dog was very welcome!

The room and bathroom had quality materials and were cleaned daily. They have an elevator as well as large private parking which is very rare in old towns.

Offering air-conditioned rooms, Hotel San Marco features a swimming pool. Lucca’s marvelous walls are 1640 feet from the property and Porta San Jacopo are a short walk away. Parking is free. Straight away Francesco welcomed us. He is so wonderful and so helpful. We got a tour of the facilities, checked in and went straight to the pool. The staff are so friendly and ready to help whenever. The bar is great, including fresh brewed beer. The pool area was beautiful and just what we needed for a city stay. I will definitely be back and recommend to my friends. The bikes to rent were amazing and you should definitely do it, bikes are the best way to see Lucca!

This hotel is excellent. Staff were all lovely. We stayed for 8 days and all very friendly with nothing to much trouble. Room was perfect. Continental breakfast very good. 10 minute walk to the City wall. What more can I say. Would definitely recommend. Try out The Old City Cafe inside the city wall. Brilliant 👍😊

The Masterpiece of Puccini

Once Italy’s 2nd largest city-state, elegant Lucca remains an important town on any itinerary in beautiful Tuscany. Its instantly recognizable historic center is completely surrounded by Renaissance-era walls which offer a leisurely "passeggiata."

Tree-lined bastions overlook the surrounding modern town, but their low height means that the best photo opportunities of medieval Lucca are from Torre Guinigi. This tower topped with trees overlooks the rooftops below and lush mountains beyond.

The bell tower of San Frediano is even taller and stands back from the elaborate gold mosaic adorning the church’s façade. Equally interesting is Lucca Cathedral’s façade, where every column is unique. The church of San Michele in Foro is on the site of the Roman forum, and the Domus Romana excavations are of a house from a similar era.

Roman amphitheater remains also form foundation stones of the medieval houses, cafés and shops of oval-shaped Piazza Anfiteatro. More sidewalk restaurants line Piazza Napoleone, Lucca’s largest square, around the corner from San Giovanni church, home to a festival celebrating Puccini, the town’s most famous son. Unsurprisingly, music is a big thing here, and summer and winter festivals showcase genres other than just opera.
