Travelers who stayed in Bologna near Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ) have said good things about Hotel EMI, Hotel Del Borgo, and Villa Aretusi.
World-class cuisine is what Bologna does best. Nowhere in Italy, a country with considerable culinary heritage, is the food considered to be better than in this medieval gem.
Bolognese sauce of course originated here, but to try the real thing look for "ragú" on the menu. Cold meats and cheeses are also exquisite. Make sure you save plenty of time for eating – the Bolognese like to savor their food, so a meal can last for hours.
Many of the best eateries and homemade ice cream shops are found behind the mile upon mile of porticoed streets, now UNESCO World Heritage sites. The complex of medieval churches and buildings in cobbled Piazza Santo Stefano is a tranquil spot to explore. Climb one of the Two Towers nearby (not the one leaning at a startling angle) for spectacular views of this red-roof city.
The focal point of Bologna is huge Piazza Maggiore, whose Santo Petronio church has an unimpressive, half-finished façade that doesn’t prepare you for its sheer scale inside. Fanning out from this square, the buildings of Europe’s oldest university, founded in 1088, are home to the city’s best museums.
Bologna accommodations at Booking.com range from small B&Bs to luxury hotels, all easily accessible from Bologna Airport just outside the city.

It's a great idea to use the public transport - buses, it's cheap – you dont pay more than 6 euros for 24 hours and you buy the ticket in bus just with your visa card! Next time I'll try renting a bike because there are lots of people cycling and it doesn't seem too dangerous.

Beautiful old buildings and churches.
Beautiful old buildings and churches. Lots of shopping opportunities and places to eat.
The heat and humidity spoiled our stay as it made walking around exhausting.
The worst experience was the queues at the airport. 3 separate queues totalling 2 hours! The Marconi Express was a disgrace. Totally overpriced at eur25.80 for 2 for a 7 minute journey. The monorail was too fast. There were only a few seats with the rest of the travellers jam packed and standing in the remaining small space. We were all being thrown around, hanging on for dear life. An awful, quite frightening experience. I'm sure Marconi would be disgusted at being linked to this awful service.

Great food, lots of history and architecture. Friendly and felt safe at all times. The centre has loads of restaurants and is easily walkable, especially at the weekend when it is fully pedestrianised.

Bologna is perfect to visit on foot (visitor cars cannot come inside the ZTL without a fine), with a compact old centre and lots of interesting shops, restaurants, cafes and historic buildings. A lively vibrant city, but it does also seem to have a fair number of homeless and beggars, particularly by the railway station and nearby park, which are not recommended as places for tourists to venture after dark.
We passed through the station in the daytime and it seemed fairly safe, although completely chaotic, with hopeless signage to the different exits.
The night we arrived, we were very late due to a delayed flight, and there were no restaurants open. We were lucky to happen upon a late night pizza kiosk and gratefully bought takeaway beer and pizza. It seems as though restaurants generally stop serving around 9.30 - 10pm, so if you're arriving late, your options may be limited!
One thing that may be a little off the typical tourist trail is to go looking for Bologna's hidden canals - these can be spotted in various places around the Via Piella, where there are also places to eat overlooking the waterways.

Bologna is a fantastic city. The food was amazing.
Bologna is a fantastic city. The food was amazing. The was plenty to see and do and the people were friendly. We walked several miles of the streets to seekout what was published and happen upon things we did no know of that were quite interesting. Bologna ideally located. We plan to return for an extended stay to act as a base point to visit other cities via rail. La Taverna Di Roberto is a fantastic place to eat. We returned there for our last night. Bologna City Walking tour was a great way to learn the city and history and determine what you wanted to go back to spend more time. Taxis are relatively inexpensiver compared to other cities in Italy and a great what to get to the airport or train. Avoid booking a Stay at a place called Home Sweet Luxury. It is not at all what it is advertised and horrible living conditions.
Small compact hotel that is an oasis with lovely small garden with diverse mature pines & conifers on the outskirts of Bologna, convenient to the airport in a slightly commercial area. Lovely mosaic pebbled ground floor reception & dining area, with lovely paintings too. Bedrooms with lovely high ceilings, minimalist nice touches ie the ringed ceiling lampshade, comfy beds with funky orange bed heads, lovely tiled bathrooms with marble effect, nice shower. Nice decor, particularly the red chairs in dining area. Nice breakfast
Riccardo couldn’t have been friendlier and more helpful during our stay. The B&B and our room was modern and tastefully decorated. The bed was the most comfortable we had in two weeks travelling through Italy. The breakfast is more than generous and super tasty. Highly recommend.
Tip for fellow travellers: you’re not in the heart of Bologna but it’s only a 10 min bus or 20 min walk to the centre.
Not just a hotel. It s a project!!!
Friendly and polite staff, very clean, safe and everything well organized. Loved the bed and the bathroom. The location is fantastic, 3 minutes walking from Bologna Centrale so you can take the Marconi Express to the airport and trains to many destinations to Italy. I wish we could stay a couple of days more….
Great location of the hotel in the center of Bologna with many choices for restaurants and shops in a walking distance.
Special artistic decoration all over the hotel. The room was functional and the bed comfortable. Very nice breakfast with great variety of both hot and cold dishes. Breakfast personnel was polite and fast for the service.
Spacious with aircon which is great during Italian summer :), small fridge is also a nice touch.
Very close to the Bologna airport but hotel shuttle runs specific times only so check times carefully. Otherwise taxi is about Euro 15 for 5 min ride. Hotel orders taxi for you to get back to the airport and waiting time is less than 5 min.
We needed a hotel close to the Bologna airport in order to catch a 6:00 AM flight. The hotel was very efficient in this regard; the 4 am shuttle to the airport was on time, and we easily made our flight. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant the night before our flight; the dinner was very good and prices weren't bad.
The hotel staff was welcoming, good breakfast, spacious room, quiet hotel.
From Bologna Airport to the Central Station you can take the Marconi Express train, tickets can be bought at the station.
For public transport in the city of Bologna, there is a travel card for 1 day or a City Pass with 10 trips.
The hotel is located very close to the central part of Bologna. The hotel staff are very attentive and responsive. The hotel is simple at first look, but the room has everything you need for a few unforgettable days in Bologna. The room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was perfect.
I would say that both me and my partner enjoyed everything throughout our whole stay. Room was very nice, everything was clean and breakfast was always perfect. Moreover, the staff was very friendly and helpful on each occasion. Probably this hotel has the best ratio quality/price from Bologna.
This is one of 5 nicely renovated hotel-like rooms located off a private hallway in a multi-story apartment building very near to the Bologna train station. Room and bathroom were well-appointed and comfortable. Management is offsite. Access to building/hallway/rooms is through a phone app.
Our overnight stay at the I Portici got off to a great start because on arrival we were upgraded from a standard to a de luxe room with balcony by the hotel. The city centre location, friendly staff, and good facilities and cleanliness helped to make our Bologna experience memorable.
The hotel is well located, across the street from Bologna's central train station and a few steps from the edge of the old city. The room was a good size and recently updated. Staff were friendly and the private garage behind the hotel was directly accessible from the lobby.
The location is great. 10-15 minutes by foot to Bologna central station and maybe 5 minutes to reach the inner city.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The reception is manned until 12pm but there is a code so you can enter the hotel at anytime during the night.
The hotel was spotlessly clean, simple but very nice, very quiet and had great air conditioning. Great breakfast and very friendly staff, and on a back street near the edge of the central part of Bologna, very good location for walking everywhere.
Good location near Bologna's central train station. Also an easy walking distance from the city centre.
The buffet breakfast was varied and very good with both sweet and savory food.
The hotel had a nice quaint feel wich was rather nice.
A spacious comfortable studio room with refined modern decor in the edge of the central part of Bologna and very close to the train station and links to anywhere in Italy and Marconi Express for airport.
It's a cheap option to stay in Bologna. The room was fine, it was clean, but expect no luxury or cosy place.
The location was great, in 10-15 minutes walking you're at the central square of Bologna.
Location was perfect right across the street from Bologna Centrale Train Station which we used for day trips to Pisa/Florence and Venezia. Hotel was walking distance to Historic Center!
