Everything was as advertised, very nice place. Only 1 problem with the mini fridge rattling when the compressor kicked on. Staff was amazing, great recommendations for my first visit to the city.

Near the Slovenian border, Trieste combines the waterside setting of Venice with the elegance of Vienna. The Habsburgs ruled here for over 500 years and built Miramare Castle on a rocky outcrop to the northwest. Their other influences include stately Piazza Unità d’Italia, looking out to sea and spectacularly lit at night.
But this is just a glimpse into Trieste's long and fascinating history. The 1st-century Riccardo Arch hides in a narrow street, and part-way up the hills behind the city center are Roman theater remains, with columns from the Roman forum standing next to San Giusto castle and cathedral.
The most photographed church is Sant’Antonio Nuovo, overlooking a boat-lined canal. The nearby Stock Exchange has a colonnaded façade and its square hosts some of the city’s shops. The most popular cultural attraction is the Revoltella Museum of modern art, while more sobering is Risiera di San Sabba, a former concentration camp near the Palatrieste and Nereo Rocco sports stadiums.
Water sports include windsurfing and kitesurfing from the port which is an important coffee importer. Unsurprisingly, the city’s Viennese-style coffeehouses serve top-quality brews, and the best is reportedly Caffè San Marco, once frequented by famous authors.
Booking.com’s Trieste accommodations include hotels with pools, cheap apartments by the station and B&Bs near Ronchi dei Legionari Airport.
Great city to visit!
Due to its geographical location, it is relatively close to Ljubljana in Slovenia, Udine, Venice etc. etc.
I could visit Ljubljana and Venice as well this time from Trieste.
Its old town, harbour, main square (Piazza Unità d'Italia) is amazing. Loved just rambling around in the city.
Since it is build on a hill(mountain)side (the Karst), when entering the city by bus, we were descending in some serpentine roads. It provided an amazing view on the city and the harbour.
You could also read the book 'Trieste and the meaning of nowhere' by Jan Morris.
Also, James Joyce seems to have liked the city, too.
Trieste has a very interesting and rich history.

Trieste is an amazing place Italian and yet not.
Trieste is an amazing place Italian and yet not. A mix of cultures. Lovely to walk about and enjoy the city. Visit old cafes where James Joyce and his literary friends gathered. So much history. The food is delicious and some of the best white wines to be had anywhere in the world. I could go on but I’ll end by saying Trieste is not to be missed .

Trieste is a very compact city.
Trieste is a very compact city. The main square and restaurants are all close together. There is a wide variety of eating places that all seemed to be reasonably priced.
The harbour side sea font is pretty and it is well worth taking a ferry trip to Muggia (30 minutes)
Mirimar Castle is also well worth a trip 25 minutes on the NO.6 bus from outside the train station.

Trieste exceeded our expectations.
Trieste exceeded our expectations. I’m not really sure what we expected as we didn’t really know that much about it before our visit. We just stopped there en route to Venice after walking in Slovenia for a week as Trieste was the closest Italian city on the coast.
The history of Trieste is tremendous and the palaces and pedestrian areas are so amazing. Huge piazzas and little narrow lane ways winding around up towards the castle and church on the hill.
There are so many little bars and restaurants everywhere, all of them serving up great Italian food. We wanted to visit all of them but of course could only go to a few. Can’t even remember their names, we just wandered and walked into ones that we liked the look of.
We also loved the Italian ‘vibe’. After a week in Slovenia it was very noticeably ‘different’, less formal somehow, the coffee quality went through the roof, although, Slovenia is probably the most scenic country we have ever been to.
Would thoroughly recommend a stop over in Trieste to anyone.

When coming to Trieste, you shouldn't miss a stroll to Barcola in the summer a really lovely place to share an afternoon with friends having a swim in trasparent and green sea water.
Trieste offers a wide range of typical food but also international options; in the morning do not miss Via XX Settembre with its characteristic small cafeteria and bars with tasty street food.
At night you can enjoy a drink outside the lively pubs even in winter!
If you like caves, there is the Grotta Gigante, not far from town where you can experiment a journey in one of the tallest European Grotto.
Finally, there are also many hystorical and literary short trips you can book or arrange by yourself downtown or in the not too distant Slovenia.

Trieste is fantastic, very walkable, stunning architecture,...
Trieste is fantastic, very walkable, stunning architecture, good shopping, and plenty of excellent places to wine and dine. Public transport is very accessible for anyone wanting a day trip, perhaps if the weather is not cooperating, and it's very easy to hop on the train to visit Venice for a few hours, or to take a bus trip to Slovenia for the day. Trieste is very high on my list of places to return to as often as possible.
the Antico Borgia was a very comfortable privately run bed and breakfast operation in central Trieste ,a five minute walk from the Grand Canal and ‘downtown Trieste. 10 minutes from the station and bus stops to the beach around the corner . Alessandro , the proprietor was a very genial and helpful host. The accommodations were spacious and very comfortable. 2 bathrooms were across the hall . I felt I got good value for money and would definitely stay there again if the opportunity arose

My stay at this hotel in Trieste was truly enjoyable. Its location near Piazza Unità made it incredibly convenient. The self-check-in process was smooth and the staff provided clear and accurate instructions. The apartment itself was spacious and well-appointed, although it might be beneficial for business travelers like myself to have a dedicated workspace, although the kitchen table sufficed. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious and clean.
We had a wonderful conversation at the front desk reception. He made us feel very welcome. This Boutique Hotel is designed with love for details and quality. Very clean, modern and quiet. After our welcome drink, we walked to our beautiful room. The hotel cares about their guests. Overall it was an exceptional experience from hotel design to human interaction with the receptionist. They made our memory of Trieste unforgettable. I can recommend this place.
The host was more than forthcoming and hospitable. During our stay, he messaged us to make sure everything is ok and that we are satisfied with the stay. The location is ideal for trips by train and there are good and reliable lockers to leave luggage really close by. The apartment is spacious and modern and equipped with everything we needed to make the stay great. This is amazing value for money and really convenient for exploring Italy by train.
Hotel Milano is located at great location in the center of Trieste, within easy walking distance to the train & bus stations and the most interesting parts of the city itself. The room was simple, but spacious and clean with good bathroom and allowed me for a good night rest. So, if someone is looking where to stay with a need to travel the day after by train or bus, look no further because here is the best value that I definitely recommend.
The hotel is located a few kilometers ahead of Trieste; by car it takes only a few minutes to downtown - still one can enjoy the beach locally for a swim (even in November). We've been upgraded to nice rooms, including balcony - a pleasant surprise.
Tommy, the chief-of-breakfast, takes care about everything the guest may need - including the extra piece of good mood, making the start of the day a pleasure.
We arrived in Trieste by train from Venice to board our cruise ship. Upon our return, we spent two nights to explore Trieste before taking the train to Rome. The Savoia Excelsior Palace was just across the street from the cruise terminal so made for an easy disembarkation. The location was also great for exploring the city with plenty of restaurants nearby. Breakfast at the hotel was also great.
Staff was very friendly, helped with all I needed. Room was clean and absolutely matched puctures. In general it was the most stylish hotel I've ever stayed in. And tableware was just perfect. Good location: close to the railway station and the sea. And they had hot mint tea in the hotel in the middle of summer in Italy, where no restaurants had it
The acommodation was cosy and comfortable. The whole place is very aestetically pleasing. It was perfectly clean. Breakfast was very good and the location of the unit is excellent, everything is near by. The host Elena was very kind and friendly, she gave us many recommendations what to visit while in Trieste and Italy. We will come back. 😊
I traveled for a conference and I stayed at Hotel Portacavana as a practical option. This is no luxury hotel, but it was very affordable, and was comfortable and clean. Also, Christian (staff) was very helpful and kind. I would definitely consider staying there if I travel to Trieste for work and need practical accommodation.
The place was in the very center and the process of getting in the apartment was very smooth. The apartment was very spacious and absolutely perfect for family with two teens. It was very clean and we consider us to be so lucky to get this one for our stay in Trieste. Looking forward to go there again.
Very quaint hotel. Great location in a tiny alley in the old city but super close to everything. Very friendly staff although the day receptionist spoke only Italian. Fortunately we found a housekeeper who epeaks Spanish, which helped. Room was comfortable and clean.
Amazing boutique hotel with very helpful and friendly staff, spacious, quite rooms and a very good breakfast with a good selection of both sweet and savory option which is not so common in Italy.
Just around the corner from the center.
Very nice and modern hotel, great rooms. Perfect location: in the very center of Trieste, just 2 minutes walking to the main square and few minutes more to Canale Grande and other attractions.
Nice location, easy to reach by foot from the city center, plenty of cafe's and bars nearby, but also a spar market in order to prepare own food... All you need for a stay in Trieste! :)
