I like Whakatane area it has some great shop's, but when were in the Bay of Plenty we spend most of our time in beautiful Matata and Kawerau visiting with whanau. The beaches in Matata are truly beautiful, Matata is another great place to visit it's 20mins out of Whakatane great for fishing.

Whakatane is great for walkers with plenty of paths and toilets. Its family friendly and very clean. Pedestrian crossings seem to be missing but the locals were great and stopped at all the courtesy stops. We found some great places to eat and notes the town had more than everything you would need. Impressive little place for a short stay.

Whakatane has a huge variety of shopping stores, eating facilities, bars, hairdressers in fact everything really and for everyone. The Hub which is just across the bridge is another shopping area with Kmart and Briscoe being my favourites but again shopping for everyone. Bunnings the huge warehouse is a goldmine easy to get carried away when shopping there. The walkway/cycling lane along the waterfront is an awesome stroll. Accomodation....heaps to choose from....you have to visit to appreciate Whakatane.

We loved Whakatane.
We loved Whakatane. Wandering around the shops or along the river was lovely. We enjoyed watching the boats and everyone was very friendly. Over the hill at Ohope Beach was brilliant for sea swimming.
I booked 2 queen ensuite rooms - One of the rooms was spacious and great view - 2 windows spacious bathroom and it looked clean which was great, The reception lady let us check in a little later which was super amazing, great views from the lounge deck, situated right in Whakatane, beach is close, restaurant downstairs, cafe across the road, movies just a few steps away too, this would is more of an adults accommodation as their is a bar below the hotel
The Motel Lodge has been recently refurbished and everything is lovely, new and clean. The friendly receptionist had upgraded us to a 2 bedroom apartment and we were amazed and thought it was the best hotel we had stayed at. The rooms were large and comfortable with a lovely courtyard and view to the garden. it was very private and tastefully decorated.
Lovely clean rooms, bed linen clean and crisp. Comfy bed. All the amenities of home. Older model motel, but still loved it. Having an indoor pool was a bonus. Nice friendly staff. Even though on the main road into Whakatane, it was still quiet, couldn't hear traffic noise. Definitely would come back here.
best holiday park ever! the family cabin we had with two rooms was spacious and super clean. the beds comfortable and everything impeccable. the staff super nice and the whole park absolutely well maintained!! better than any hotel family room/apartment we had in NZ so far.
Jill was pleasant, friendly and kind. The Landing Motel is our favourite Whakatane accomodation because it’s clean, inviting, warm and the spa bath is a real treat for us, healing and soothing for our tired working bodies.
The unit was really clean & very reasonable in price . It had generous , thoughtful touches. The location was close to the main area of Whakatāne . It was a great place to stay thanks .
It was very clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful, and checkin/checkout was super easy. Great value for money - we'll be back next time we're in Whakatane!
One of the best places I have ever stayed at in New Zealand. We had a two bedroom suite and we will definitely be back, it was nicer than a 5 star hotel
