Canico itself has not much to offer, but it is a quiet, clean neighborhood and a 12 min drive from both Funchal and the Airport, however most of the things to do was either in the heart of the island or at the northern part, so be ready to drive around. Caniço is a lovely little place to stay with plenty of shops...
Caniço is a lovely little place to stay with plenty of shops/bars/restaurants. There are many large hotels in the area but it is possible to keep away from them and the associated mass tourism. There is a great sea front walk from the public car park leading to a great restaurant mainly frequented by the locals and this is about 10-15 mins away from the centre.

Nice apartment, very close to the beach and good proximity to Funchal. There are some small things that were missing like shower gel :(, shampoo, soap, beach towels ... also we had some problems with the entrance door in the building but this was resolved fast with the help of neighbors. If you want to visit Madeira, you definitely need to rent a car. I recommend a small car like a Fiat500 or a Fiat Panda because the roads in the cities and villages can be really (I mean REALLY) narrow.

There are two bathrooms which was big plus and private parking on site. The view over the ocean is impressive. It is true there is a busy by-pass near by. This did not affect our sleep as the house is double glazing. Temperature in Madeira were around 24 degrees. We were out most the time visiting the island so not to fussed about the noise. Guido was very helpful and punctual. Great place to stay at a great price.

We received exact instructions how to got the place and open the apartment. There is enough place to park car in front of the building. Who don't rent a car can arrive by bus which stops right in front of the house. The apartment is clear, with big living room, 3 smaller bedrooms, 2 baths and big terrace. for all time we need not to use A/C, the weather was comfortable for us.

For breakfast there are plenty of options to choose, so if you stay not for very long, each time you can eat something different. We enjoyed swimming pool, also the opportunity to go to lido where you can swim in the sea (worth to take snorkeling mask). The name of hotel was confirmed, there were no kids (except lido which is accessible by public for some fee), so you could really relax, read a book.

A fully equipped kitchen , outdoor space to relax, a nice living room. The host Paulo and Rodrigo were welcoming & helpful. They allowed a flexible check-in/ checkout. Private parking if you rent a car. Very good size. The view is beautiful. Definitely recommend and if I’m coming back to Madeira I will stay here again for sure. I want to thank you the landlord for helping me renting a car, that was definitely a very good idea. Who says you don’t need a car to explore the island is wrong.
