Arouca is an interesting town with great scenery on the doorstep. It is a good base from which to explore the geopark and to do the 516 suspension bridge experience. Local restaurants and bars are very good value and there is a genuine feel about the place that this is the real Portugal.

Great pleasant town to use as a base for surprising variety of walks or swims or river activities in the area. In this area trails are marked out very well for off-road walks with great views and through lovely hamlets. The town itself also houses a variety of museums, supermarkets, shops, and places to drink and eat local treats.

I went for the 516 bridge and for the river board walk.
I went for the 516 bridge and for the river board walk. Both met my expectations. However, both the bridge and the board walk are very difficult to find, specially the bridge. I understand that it is protected landscape and they cannot simply build a new road. But at least they could improve the signs on the roads - I found the bridge by mere chance and luck and almost missed the assigned time scheduling - and it is very stressful and frustrating to look for the entrance to those two things. I know this is a common problem on this country (lack of proper signs on the roads seems to be a cultural point of honor, just like cod fish dishes), but enough is enough. The stress and frustration of looking for the places can easily ruin the experience and no one wants that. GPS may not be as helpful as one might think on non-urban environment. New tourists: be advised for this and allocate enough time in your timetable for searching and arrival for this two attractions.

Crossing the 516 Arouca bridge is a must if you don't have a fear of heights! Be warned that there is a 1+km steep downhill walk from the parking lot to the start of the bridge at the Alvarenga entry. Also, if you take the Paiva Walkways after crossing the bridge, the toilets are 4.4 km in, so I suggest that the park put in toilets at the end of the bridge before the walkways.
The posta de vitela at Assembleia restaurant is of high quality. Vegetarian options are so-so, as is true in most restaurants in Portugal.

I was mostly in between nature.
I was mostly in between nature. As long as it's kept like this and the aesthetic of the place is maintained ... all is great! :) Fortunately, because of this, I didn't see many modern houses, which was great!!! :))

Absolutely fantastic place, everything is gorgeous, it’s so relaxing and watching the animals on the balcony with my breakfast was amazing. We were so lucky to have found this little gem. Tony was an amazing host, so friendly, informative and helpful. He really made our stay perfect. We can’t wait to come back. Really couldn’t recommend enough. Thank you ☺️ Oh and I forgot to add just how wonderful it was to eat fresh warm bread that was delivered to our penthouse for breakfast.
We wished we had booked more nights here.
We felt extremely at home in this pleasant, comfortable and spacious apartment. It was new or almost new and that showed! Comfortable beds, dark rooms due to shutters, good shower, fully equipped kitchen, two bathrooms (!) and easy parking in front of the door. Good internet. Our kids liked the Domino game in the living space ;-)
Good supermarket around the corner to get whatever you need and several restaurants to choose from. The apartment is ideally to visit the Pavian Walkways and/or the Arouca516 bridge.
We were a group of 11 adults and we booked all 5 rooms. We all were comfortable with plenty of space to relax independently and together. We loved the very long table in the downstairs common room. We liked having the small inflatable pool to cool off in the heat. The house is located close to the Arouca bridge. We felt like it was our private home and grounds for the weekend.
It was beautifully decorated (fresh, clean and comfortable), and Patricia (the Manager) was delightful and most helpful). The views were wonderful as well. We had a leisurely 10 minute walk into town for dinner at Assembleia, and Nino took good care of us with a lovely meal and wine selection. Arouca seems like a charming community, and we wish we could have stayed longer.
Very cute, very remote, very serene guest house in a tiny aldeia in the middle of hiking country. Our hosts baked a delicious surprise welcome treat and we enjoyed a quiet rest and recharge. In the morning we hiked to the tunnel and waterfall before heading to the Paiva walkways and Arouca 516. It's about 40 minutes drive to the Paiva walkways, skimming back by Arouca.
Great location. We walked the Arouca bridge and Paiva walkways which are only 20 minutes drive from the property. Google got us to the property on some narrow windy roads, be prepared! The property has been expertly renovated by the family and is very comfortable. The owners met us on arrival and are both friendly and helpful. Highly recommended

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa da Cavada. The house is in a stunning location over looking the Paiva river valley below. Our kids enjoyed exploring the interesting garden. The house is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. If we are ever back in Espiunca or Arouca we will definitely look to stay here again.
Great location for Arouca GeoPark activities. Short drive to everything and short walk to center of Arouca for restaurants, cafés and groceries. Excellent buffet breakfast that also included scrambled eggs and bacon along with the customary cheese, meats, juice, cereal, etc. Basic clean, air conditioned hotel room.
Excellent apartment very modern and thoroughly equipped with electrical appliances and furniture. Excellent location right by Arouca downtown with easy access to local business and restaurants. I like TV, but the one at the apartment was not connected to any service. I score this lodging at 9.5 for this reason.
Good location close to Arouca. Quiet with very little traffic noise. Well equipped kitchen with a good-sized refrigerator. Retro decoration with old books, rotary phone and 60’s vintage microscope; the internet was fast and reliable. Swimming pool and the host gave us some fresh eggs from her hen house.
Cozy place with the most amazing 180 degrees views to the Valley of Arouca. The host was superfriendly and available at any time. We used the small kitchen to make our breakfast. We also got maps from the host. That helped a lot.
Hotel is managed by single person and he took great care for us. Breakfast was great at the gzest house owners pizzeria.
Location is just 25min from paiwa walkways starting point. Owner was very welcoming and nice person.
Outstanding property, with very kind and generous people, filled with wonderful animals, coupled with a great scenery, very good looking architecture, and a very central location in the town of Arouca.
The place was very nice with perfect location for us after visiting the 516 Arouca bridge. In addition to the room there was a living room and a kitchen. There was a restaurant near by for dinner.
The room was amazing, super clean and big. The house is close to the center of Arouca. The owners were amazing and helped us immediately with a small issue of the keys. I would go back for sure!
