Asian Tradition, French Flair and Growing Modernity
With delicious Vietnamese aromas, small silk shops and ancient pagodas, the streets of Ho Chi Minh City dazzle tourists with their vibrant atmosphere. Its rich culture includes beautiful French colonial palaces mixed with modern skyscrapers that show the power of Vietnam’s economic capital.
Whether you decide to visit the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the City Hall, or the Municipal Theater, you’ll see the care shown by Saigonese people in preserving their historic legacy. On the other hand, the Haussmann-style boulevards are typically packed with small motorcycles that make every street crossing a whole new experience.
Contemporary Saigon can be seen in places like the Bitexco Financial Tower, located directly at central Ham Nghi Blvd. Meanwhile, Saigon Center or Zen Plaza are some of its modern shopping malls.
For a look into Vietnam’s recent history, don’t miss the Reunification Palace or the War Remnants Museum. A sunset visit to the 23rd September Park is the best way to mingle with the locals.
Indulge yourself in one of the 5-star Ho Chi Minh hotels, or stay in a budget hotel at Pham Ngu Lao Street. Don’t miss the Ho Chi Minh City accommodations on Booking.com before arriving at Tan Son Nhat International Airport!
The museums and the central markets were worth visiting.
The museums and the central markets were worth visiting. I think for the most memorable experience was the War Remnants Museum. Beautifully presented and extremely informative. The people Pi encountered throughout my short stay were so friendly and willing to please. I would highly recommend Ho Chi Minh city to anyone.

Lots to see and do, Temples and museums, war sites to visit, natural areas such as Mekong Delta to visit.
Many hotels to choose from and at a fair price.
Many restaurants and eating places serving wonderful Vietnamese cuisine to choose from.
Our advice - Use suncreen and a hat. Drink bottled or boiled tap water. Wash your hands with soap or sanitiser frequently especially before eating. Be careful to eat in busy restaurants where the food doesn't sit long, be careful eating salad washed in tap water (dunk it in your boiling hot Pho! ).
Experience the long distance trains. The Lotus Express is such a wonderful journey, go for the soft berths, very comfortable.
The smaller places around central, coastal Vietnam are a breath of fresh air after the big cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh.

Busy and noisy.
Busy and noisy. A must see for first time Vietnam travellers. I’ve stayed before and the Central Palace is in a cool parkland setting opposite the reunification palace. Great hotel for us older generation. No noise or kids here. Superb staff and position away from continuously tooting motor bikes.

Book when you get there.
Book when you get there. I booked online and when we got there the owner of the place we booked was unavailable so NO key. Had to go elsewhere. Book when your there. Plenty of places as we found out and don't believe the "ONLY ONE ROOM LEFT" caper. Hundreds of hotels and always rooms available. I"ll NEVER take the chance to book online again.

Comparing HCM City to other destinations in Asia, I rate it...
Comparing HCM City to other destinations in Asia, I rate it highly. I last visited in 2007 and it is cleaner, more prosperous, and much more modern. Not that it was dirty or poor then. It remains the commerical and business hub of Vietnam, much more vibrant and enterprising than other parts of Vietnam.
In 2007 there remained much subtle evidence of the 'America war': tall walls around buildings, topped with spikes or barbed wire, more dirt and 60s-70s era vehicles, air conditioners, and such. While you can find that, much of it is gone. The city is re-born. The lack of evidence of sex tourism and overt pandering to Western money is very good.
But I have reservations: Hanoi has culture and class, which suits me better. Many regional cities are more relaxed but still have beauty and comfort, without the pressure and the rush. In my opinion while Ho Chi Minh City is worth seeing, it should not be the main destination for a trip to Vietnam. But I'd CERTAINLY go there before Bangkok.
It just depends what type of person you are

Use the grab app. it is a must !
Use the grab app. it is a must ! you can easily get a taxi for very good prices, additionally you can have food delivered. It is a very beautiful city in it's own way. I would recommend to keep enough cash on you as it is easier with paying than by card or credit card. people are very helpful and nice.
As for places to visit there is enough to do in the city and depends on you're preference.
Keep in mind that the temperature in this part of Vietnam does not really drop below 30 degrees Celsius in the afternoon you would want to look for a place with air conditioning. In the evening the city really comes to life and this the moment to explore some of the things outside and grab a drink.

Great location in district 1, walking distance from many interesting tourist attractions. Hotel is new, done in a perfect japanese quality. Perfectly clean and tidy. Our room was on the 18 floor just one floor under the small gym and the swiming pool. We went to the pool both evenings of our stay to take a swim with a view of the city. I loved that the toilet in the room was separate from the bathroom. This hotel is a great place for business trip or a situation when you need a good night sleep and dont plan to stay much in the hotel.
Considering how hard it is to find a legitimately good hotel in Ho Chi Minh City (that at least matched the listings), A&A Toronto was exceptional. We stayed in a twin bed room that was sufficiently big, had a fridge, comfy beds and AC, good water pressure and a bath tub. We had unlimited pho and good coffee for breakfast, the receptionist and guard were very friendly, and the location was very very good. It was within walking distance to major spots in HCM. Definitely recommended.
Great location for Bhan Tan market, GPO, Notre Dam, War remnants museum and restaurants in district 1.
Plentiful breakfast.
Premium deluxe room with city view was good size with comfortable bed and good shower.
WiFi was good.
Very helpful general hotel staff.
Receptionists excellent in tour/taxi and general counsel.
Spa on 1st floor is separately managed. NHA was an excellent masseuse.
Hotel also has pool and gym but we did not have time to participate.
Laca hostel is located in the District 1, very good location, we were able to get around by foot and by taxi.
The host was very helpful, she welcome us and gave us a lot of good recommendations about restaurants and places to go in Ho Chi Minh City!
The hostel is quite new, I really like the room we stayed, the bed is very big and comfortable. Overall, we enjoyed stay at this place!
It was a pleasant experience staying 1 night in Diamond Luxury Ben Thanh Hotel. The hotel is clean and comfortable, the staffs are helpful, most importantly it is only a 15 minutes walk to most famous attractions in Ho Chi Minh City. It is located in the centre of the city. The room is big enough and clean, and they provide Loccitane toilet amenities, which is a bonus to woman?!
Fantastic boutique hotel in a lovely, quite part of district 1. Easy walking distance to the centre of the city, and a taxi ride is only a couple of dollars. The pool was beautiful and always clean. Beds were very comfortable and the room was cleaned daily. Lots of local restaurants nearby. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you to the staff for a lovely stay.
The place is located in the very safe area near district 1. It’s huge department block with big shopping mall near by that you can find restaurants , supermarket and few things for kids to do there. The neighborhood is quite nice to walk around with some parks near by. Our place is clean & spacious with stunning view of the city. We highly recommend to other guests.
What a wonderful hotel in a peaceful area of Ho Chi Minh city. It's within walking distance to the main shopping areas but far enough away that it isn't loud at night. The decor is gorgeous, unique and the staff were wonderful. The rooms were clean and the rooftop pool is amazing! Great to escape the city after a long day of walking.
This is a family hotel, everything is very messy and dirty. Even the bed sheets were not cleaned, there was dirt left behind, and there was mucus like someone's sperm on the water table, the toilet was very dirty, and especially the bed was very hard, too bad for a service. Bad in the city center. Rating: 0.5 stars (too bad)
Excellent location: the very center of Ho Chi Minh City (District 1) but thanks to the fact that the building is located in the courtyard - peace and quiet. In general, the noise of the big city didn't bother at all.
Cordial and helpful owner. He helped organize everything what was needed.
Staffs are friendly and supportive. After I booked, I was contacted by Miss. Xuan Lan, a hotel staff, offering her support. The room locates near one of the busiest street in Ho Chi Minh City, thus there are many entertainment activities. From there, you can easily travel the city center.
The location was perfect, smack dab in the middle of everything, 500m away from the spot where District 1,3,5 and 10 meet. Perfect budget option if you want to explore the city. A locker with keys were included in the room price and the hosts were also very accomodating.
Sai Gon Hotel hotel is situated in the heart of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, where there are plenty of bars, restaurants, shops and shopping centers. The hotel has an excellent location, just a few minutes' walk from Ben Thanh Market and Tao Dan Park.
Nice location, center of HCMC, there is 24hr convenience store as well next the hotel. Walkable distance to go around district 1 to sightseeing the city. Daytour accepted to pick us from this hotel. Spacious room, unique interior
I really liked the staff at the hotel best. They went above & beyond to make my stay enjoyable. I also liked the location of the hotel, close to many things in Ho Chi Minh city, yet tucked away on a quiet street.
Hotel is located in middle of District 1. Staff is helpful although the city is locked down at this time. We are happy with all facilities in the room. Price is good also. It is really good choice
The hotel is located right in the center of District 1 so it is very convenient to get around city
The room’s very clean, delicious breakfast, reasonable price
I will come back in the near future
Location of the hotel was excellent, right in the heart of district 1, the breakfast was very nice .
We got upgraded to a room with a roof terrace that had amazing views of the city
Very well located in District 1, a short walk from all the main areas of interest. Lovely views of the city and the Saigon river from the roof top bar.
