The location is right at the center, besides the cathedral, so if you're looking for a place around the center, it's exactly the best location for it. The breakfast was very good and it came with the room. It looks like a real medieval inn.

An amazing hotel. Located in the heart of Rothenburg. Sparkling clean room. The staff were kind and helpful. Although you can't park in the vicinity of the old town, there is a parking lot outside of the old town which is less than 5 minutes walk. You can park in front of the hotel to check in, though. We will definitely come back.

You couldn't ask for a better location. You can walk to most everything within a couple minutes. The breakfast was great and has a fantastic view. This was my second time staying here and I wouldn't think about staying anywhere else. The place is perfect.

Hotel Markusturm (or Hotel Romantik) is a classic Bavarian Inn located in the heart of downtown Rothenburg. The main hotel is quaint, comfortable and historically well preserved with a small but tasteful lobby, two lovely little dining rooms for breakfast and a small courtyard for guests. Though, at first, we were a little disappointed that we were assigned to an annex of the main hotel (which was more modern inside), we soon realized this separate little townhome suited our needs quite well and ended up being better for us in the long run. It had a beautiful view from the private balcony, comfortable beds and a coffee maker and fridge. Nice bathroom too… What we didn’t expect was that 2 of our children and one adult (yours truly) would come down sick. However, this only served to bring out the absolute best in the hotel staff it seemed! When they found out we were in need, Stephen at the front desk led the charge by having homemade chicken broth made for us and then sending Hero (no kidding, the big strong bellhop was named “Hero”) to pick us up and take us to a nearby doctor, to the pharmacy and even to the bank! We were so blessed and impressed and tipped them accordingly. Our waitress was also so kind and attentive. Another lady at the front desk helped us schedule a taxi and train for our final day. There’s so much more I could share, but I had to share this which just made it for us… the morning we left, as the taxi took 2 trips and dropped the last of our family and bags at the train station, and we tried to figure out the German kiosk, a terrible sinking feeling came over my wife! She’d been sure to account for every bag but her own! It must’ve still been at the hotel we thought and the train was coming in 15 min! We called Stephen at the front desk who dropped everything and quickly drove to our annex to search the place for my wife’s luggage. Within 10 minutes or less, he had arrived at the station with the bag!

The hotel is super nice with helpful staff and good parking facilities. The room was nice, cool (in July) and quite spacious. We had a comfortable stay while visiting this amazing old medieval city. We'd like to return and for sure will stay again at this hotel.

Out of a Fairytale

The half-timbered buildings, cobbled streets and brightly painted façades of medieval Rothenburg ob der Tauber wouldn’t be out of place in a fairytale. Several fantastical films have been set in this gem on the scenic Romantic Road, passing from Würzburg to Füssen via Bavaria’s most enchanting towns.

Uniquely designed gates allow access to the historic centre through walls partly covered with tiled roofs. Walking along the walls offers a different perspective of the town’s colourful flowers, step gables and towers. The town hall has the tallest tower, whose far-reaching views include the large Marktplatz, home of the Christmas market. The Christmas Museum is a year-round winter wonderland, as is the shop of Käthe Wohlfahrt, the internationally renowned German Christmas decoration producer.

On a different note, the Crime Museum houses medieval torture instruments including a ducking stool. Holy Blood and Last Supper altarpieces form the focal point of towering St James’ Church, a stop on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route.

In the River Tauber valley outside the centre are lush gardens, one containing Toppler Castle, a bizarre structure resembling a house on a tower. Also in the valley is a double-arched stone bridge.

    A remarkable town.

    A remarkable town. We arrived knowing nothing about it and were stunned at what a beautiful place it is, possibly the most complete medieval town I've every seen. We only had one evening there, so I felt on another trip I could stay longer and see more.

    We arrived around 1pm, and left the following day around...

    We arrived around 1pm, and left the following day around 11am. I could have stayed another day. The town is quite large and while the day trippers come in and see the main street, there is so much more to do here - side streets to wander and shop, the city walls and outside the walls - many walking and biking paths. We will be back and plan to stay two nights.

    The town is always busy.

    The town is always busy. If you like nature and walking, I recommend the area surrounding Rothenburg. The landscape is beautiful. I would recommend going up the Rathaus tower and viewing the town from way up.

    Absolute picture book place of the idyllic Bavarian Town.

    Absolute picture book place of the idyllic Bavarian Town. Plenty of wonderful street wandering to be done with many cafes and restaurants (mostly in the hotels). Being hypocritical for a moment, there are a lot of tourists visiting during the middle of the day. Staying in the town affords the opportunity to experience the place in the comparative quiet of the early morning or late evening.

    The location of the hotel was excellent, being very close to the main market square. All staff we encountered were super friendly. The parking garage was a huge plus given the limits on vehicles in the old town. The room was modern and very comfortable. And even given the location right on a main thoroughfare in town, we found the hotel to be very quiet after 5 p.m. once most of the day-trippers had left. I appreciated the little touches like the table reserved for us in the dining room and the excellent German breakfast on both days we were in Rothenburg o.d.T. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely choose this hotel again on our next visit.

    Good value for money especially considering the location. Note that this hotel has the basic amenities and not much more. If it is for a night or two, it is perfect for staying in Rothenburg considering the cost of other hotels in the city. And it has free parking and the owner is okay with parking the car after check out to explore the city for the day.

    Hotel was ideally located near Rothenburg ob der Tauber’s old town and famous photo spots. The receptionist welcomed us very warmly and there were small candy gifts and a greeting card in the room. The heat in the room was good, bathroom facilities was sufficient, breakfast served on a buffet and tasty.

    The most amazing art deco hotel I’ve ever had the privilege of staying at. Very quirky and a fantastic historical buildings that is only a short walk to the old town. in my opinion one of the most amazing towns in Germany
