The location is perfect - close to the old town, while being in the city center (nevertheless, we did not hear the noise). Breakfast was amazing and varied. Some highlights - fresh orange juice, cherry tomatoes, different pies, fresh fruit, various bread. Milk and juice are served in one-portion glass bottles, which is a huge plus. Beds were super comfy and quite large. The room was spacious and clean. The AC is extremely quiet, which is great. The staff is friendly and attentive. The hotel has two parking yards in the vicinity (2 and 3 minutes away) - during our two week stay, we were always able to find a spot in the closer one, except for one Saturday.

The breakfast was lovely and plentiful. There was a variety. The hostess explained the food items I was unfamiliar with and relayed stories regarding the different foods. The hosts were so welcoming and available. They were generous with their time and since I was traveling alone, I was so happy they were so welcoming and open and appreciated their stories about the area and the hotel. They would visit as much or as little as I would like. They did not intrude at all and provided me time for quiet reflection but were so willing to visit. They are warm and interesting. I was happy to spend my nights in the oldest hotel in Kalamata and am so happy they took on the renovation to keep this beautiful and important building alive and thriving.

Kalamata is an absolutely beautiful city that truly offers the best of both worlds — stunning beaches and a vibrant city atmosphere. One of the highlights for me was the beachfront restaurants that offer sun loungers, allowing you to enjoy delicious food and drinks right by the sea. It's the perfect spot to relax and take in the view. The old town is a gem — full of character, with traditional architecture and a genuine sense of authentic Greece. It hasn’t lost its local charm, which makes strolling through its streets feel like stepping back in time. Kalamata strikes a wonderful balance between relaxation and culture. I can’t wait to return!

    What a great town!

What a great town! Easy to get around on foot, and the old town has so much character. A foodie city, for sure. A typical day for us was a leisurely breakfast with great coffee, followed by a few hours at the beach. A nap during the hot part of the afternoon is essential…don’t skip it. Then out for drinks and dinner in the old town. Repeat as necessary… There wasn’t a “touristy” feel here at all, we didn’t get upsold or hustled. People are very kind, helpful and generous, and English didn’t present any difficulties.

Kalamata is a wonderful, quiet city with very friendly people. It’s much more relaxed and less crowded than Athens, with plenty to explore both along the beautiful seashore and in the nearby mountains. The mountain villages are especially charming. I definitely recommend visiting!

There are not so many tours available currently and I had difficulty finding one other than expensive private ones, However I located a Greek company in Kalamata and visited Messinia, which is a very important Greek site and well worth the visit, Make sure you take water and preferably a hat or umbrella as there is no shade and you cannot buy water there! Another trip on the local bus for 13 Euro return was a long one (hour and a half) with a change of bus in Pylos, to Methoni to see the castle, That is closed on a Tuesday, The beach is golden sand a beautiful fortress and castle to visit, so recommend that trip. A good bus trip to see the local countryside on the way too but be careful of the return times from Methoni, Kalamata beach I did not find that interesting. Lots of tavernas/coffee bars along the strip, but not a lot else. A good promenade to walk along, especially on a cool summer evening, The old town is reasonably interesting, but seen better in Greece to be honest and then the new town is same as many other now - paved over with the normal stores and bakery chains. An interesting area to visit in Peloponnese area and also a bus ride to Athens and areas in the region.

We did a olive oil tasting and lunch at The Olive Routes, which was wonderful. We had supper at Kastraki-Meteoro Castle and watch the sunset over the bay. We also did a food and wine tour which included the farmers market. Shopped in the old town. Over all this was a fantastic trip.

We had a wonderful stay here! The location was perfect: just far enough from downtown to be a little quieter, also easy free and safe parking in the surrounding streets (but you can reserve a parking spot in the hotel garage if you're more comfortable). And downtown was only 5-10 min walk away, so we could easily get back and forth. The apartment was very comfortable and clean, the bakery around the corner was so nice for easy coffee/breakfast, a handy supermarket also just 3 min walk. Would stay here again if we ever revisit Kalamata!

This lovely property is a charming oasis offering a place to properly relax and enjoy this beautiful part of Greece. Sunbathing, reading a book in the shade then cooling off in the small pool it was delightful. The owner provided a generous welcome pack of goodies and most of the basics needed when self catering. There is a large fantastic supermarket a short walk away and we enjoyed popping into a really good coffee shop for our Iced Fredo cappuccino’s on route! We did not want to leave.
