Meifod House, hotel in Llanllyfni

Set in Caernarfon, in a building dating from 1904, Meifod House offers a garden and guestrooms with free WiFi. Offering a terrace, the property is located within 1.6 mi of Caernarfon Castle.

Delightful! The house has an energy of it`s own, vibrant and purposeful to make you enjoy the stay, feel thrown back in 1960. All the rooms are wonderfully furnished (library, living room, dining room, the bar, etc). The hosts are friendly and very helpful. If you want to have an experience, we recommend staying here: everything is made for comfort. Our room was spacious, there were mirrors everywhere, the vines are hovering over the windows very so discreetly, the bathroom (with a vintage tub) was perfectly sized for a nice bath time!

Elephant View Shepherds Hut, hotel in Llanllyfni

Elephant View Shepherds Hut in Caernarfon provides accommodations with free WiFi, 10 miles from Snowdon, 19 miles from Portmeirion and 30 miles from Llandudno Pier.

We loved our stay at Shepherds Hut. It's a stunning location, so quiet and peaceful. However what makes it is the comfort of the hut. It is very cosy and the beds are really comfortable and the attention to detail is amazing. The hot tub and pizza oven are the cherry on the pie, completely adding to the relaxing vibe. We will definitely be back. Thanks Gavin for everything!

You need a car…as you are in the middle of nowhere in the most beautiful area, with so much to offer all around. You are central to many places of interest. We investigated the surrounding villages to check out supermarkets, restaurants and take aways etc but we had greater enjoyment, cooking our own meals with other travellers, living that backpacker mentality and speaking to new people you would have never normally met. It was lovely to see families, dads and sons on mountain bike holidays and a family from France, everyone cooking up very delicious looking meals from all around the world. The area is stunning and we really wish we had booked a longer stay. We initially booked to attend Zip World and go on Europes longest and fastest zip wire but we soon realised having visited Bangor, Ryll, Llandudno, Porthmadog that there was soo so much more to see. It rained, and it didnt matter….it was beautiful with rain so i can only imagine how beautiful the beaches are etc when it’s sunny. We will be back, its ace and for hiking, mountain climbing, cycling, driving, its stunning!

This location is well placed for much of Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsular. It is away from the main national park, but means it is less busy. It is close to Caernarfon which has reasonable transport connections and all the main facilities. It is also 20 minutes away from Porthmadog which has access to the National Rail network and also the Welsh Highland & Ffestiniog heritage railways, which are well worth a visit and will take you deep into the National Park.

The location is excellent for all attractions such as the Zip Worlds, Mount Snowden and the National Whitewater Rafting Centre. The local Co-op and takeaways were excellent and only a short walk away. Access to the main roads to major attractions was also easy. Avoid trusting your Sat Nav too much. It tends to take you some hair raising routes when the main road is much quicker and less likely to meet a tractor on a single lane road in the hills.

It is a typical tourist hostel having common toilets, showers, and a kitchen. All were clean and well maintained. The staff is very friendly and helpful. If you like mountains, mountaineering, or walking in a forest and you do not need hotel service it is an ideal place for you.

A small town, functional but not pretty, a well stocked Co-op supermarket provided all we needed. There are several take-aways, Chinese, Indian, Fish and Chips and Kebab/Pizza, which is useful if you don't fancy cooking in the hostel. The nearest pubs are some way away, and in Beddgelet we have always had issues as they do not start serving food until 18.30 (not much good if you are looking for early food after a day on the hills) or fully booked, We did had a drink in nearby Cwellwyn Arms (Rhydd Du) but the food was quite expensive, so we ate at the hostel and had an Indian take-away which was fine.
