If you travel by car, Scarlino is a very nice place to stay.
If you travel by car, Scarlino is a very nice place to stay. Our holiday village was in the foot of the hill and it was very convenient to travel to the nearby beaches of Follonica. The village of Scarlino on the top of the hill is very charming. It's a small medieval village. The best part of Scarlino by far is the restaurant Al Convento. The terrace is in the yard of an old monastery and it has the best view over the area, a breathtaking landscape with mountains on one side and the sea and the near islands of Elba and Corsica on the other. Scarlino is an ancient village on the hill with a breathtaking view on the countryside and the Etruscan coast overlooking Follonica. Unfortunately it is quite empty and desolated. There is nobody around and it looks quite spooky. We struggled to find a coffee shop open. It is a pity for such a quaint location.

The Castello di Scarlino on top of the hill/mountain right next to the location is really beautiful and worth a visit to have a spectacular view of both Tuscany countryside and sea. Our appartment had an amazing view from the balcony - to the mountaings and the sea. There is a private parking for the guests of the appartments. Our flat was spacious, with a dinner room and a separate bedroom. Everything was perfectly clean. Style is quite a mix of contemporary and traditional elements of tuscan houses, but in general very nice.

Great location if you travel by car (15-20 minutes away from lovely Punta Ala beaches as well as from Massa Maritima or Follonica if you want to eat out). Scarlino on the hill offers amazing views and atmosphere. Our kids also loved the program delivered by the animators. The pool & huge slide on the camp premises were also a perfect passtime! We enjoyed our experience - grazie mille! 😉
