The hotel is right in the town centre. Very clean, comfortable and inviting. They went the extra mile with providing us with everything we needed for our stay! The guy at check in was very kind too. This is definitely somewhere we will stay again.

Rooms are good size, new, clean and have a fun decor. Nice little touches with chocolate, Nespresso, etc. There are two nice walks from the hotel, one to the Castle and one along the river. Town is walkable. Designated parking was nice. Restaurant had some of the best food we had in England.

Very conveniently located for access to the M6 motorway,...
Very conveniently located for access to the M6 motorway, into Lancaster itself, into Morecambe but also inland into the countryside.
Rooms are the usual fare – clean and tidy but long corridors and a bit soulless.
Food is good.
Remember to register your vehicle registration otherwise you get a parking ticket. We weren't told this and have had to appeal against the ticket. If we lose it's a £100 fine.

I went to university here.
I went to university here. Lancaster is a handsome Northern city. NOT particularly pretty but with lots of architectural interest. The food at 'The Merchants' and 'The Quarterhouse' is excellent - and contrasting. It needs good restaurants and both of these are, in there own way, remarkable. Jay Rayner did a fantastic review of 'The Merchants' in The Guardian. He was right. Brilliant food in a nice setting right in the middle of town and also amazing value. It is 'pub prices' for really sophisticated, but 'wholesome' food. BOTH MUST survive, please.

I lived in Lancaster for almost 20 years and I love it.
I lived in Lancaster for almost 20 years and I love it. I still live locally and I went to the hotel as a reward/treat to myself after a significant loss in my life. Lancaster is quite a compact city which is crammed with history and culture and independent shops.

Had a guided tour of the castle which was very interesting.
Had a guided tour of the castle which was very interesting. We also visited the Abbey adjacent. We also like the promenade walk along the River Lune which is easily accessible from the hotel. Lancaster is built on hills so for the mobility limited it can be difficult to walk around. We drove directly to the castle car park for blue badge holders. We ate all meals in our hotel.

Lots of interesting buildings.
Lots of interesting buildings. People really friendly, good variety of shops. Went to a lovely sports bar facing the police station, decor amazing cocktails good too. Lots if restuarants to chose from had a lovely Turkish meal just up road from JD sports .seen some good talent at open mic bar . Will definitely recommend a visit to Lancaster I was pleasantly surprised.
Having read all the reviews we were expecting a high standard, however it for exceeded that with a fantastic welcome, an amazing room and great atmosphere. The room was aired and clean with a 1st rate welcome package. The Gateway can honestly rival any 1st class hotel in the Lancaster area. The bus stop outside means it’s in a prime location for non drivers and there is ample parking outside though. We traveled with our dog and were served breakfast outside in their fantastic garden.
We stayed at the Lancaster House Hotel to attend the open day at the University of Lancaster. We liked more or less everything about this hotel, especially the proximity to the university's campus. It is also conveniently located near a bus stop and has plenty of parking available. We loved the room we were staying in with plenty of space and comfortable beds. Live piano music contributed to a nice ambiance at dinner time. We would be happy to return to this hotel again.
Picture perfect cottage with original fireplace and oak beams , as well as a well tended garden looked after by a neighbour. Sally, the host, is so lovely and made us very welcome with enough for a cuppa to get us settled. The local shop was a couple of minutes walk and the Black Bill in at the bottom of the street. we also had a meal in The Station Hotel with family who live in Lancaster and everyone, including the 7 and 2 x12 year olds. We will definitely be back.
Very friendly staff, beautiful room, great facilities. The food was delicious, My wife had the salad super bowl which was amazing, so many flavours. I had the gammon which was tender and very tasty, and best of all, excellent value for money. Good selection of beers in the bar and even though it's a big space, it still had a cozy atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return next time we visit Lancaster.
Fabulous apartment in great location for centre of Lancaster. The apartment was large and had everything we needed for a great stay including parking which was a bonus. It was good value for money given the cost of hotel accommodation in the local area. It was spotlessly clean and we were fortunate to be able to get in ahead of check in time. I would not hesitate to recommend and hope to return.
If you are stopping on your way, you may find the location quite convenient, as it's literally just off M6 (not if you have come to explore Lancaster itself though, as it takes almost an hour on foot to get to the centre and the walk is not even through a particularly nice area). The hotel has a gym and a swimming-pool, which could be a bonus for some.
Lovely place to stay, would defo book again next time I visit Lancaster uni (it's only a couple of miles up the road and a great deal cheaper than the hotel on campus!).
All the staff were very welcoming and helpful...
The owners had an issue with their gas supply, but that didnt stop them from delivering an excellent cooked breakfast!
Great central location, and excellent value for money. Great that there's a shared kitchen for self-catering. It's a budget accommodation, and a reasonable alternative to hotels in the city (since the Travelodge/Ibis closed to paying customers to house refugees, there really isn't a basic, cheap, safe. clean option in the city centre.
Very friendly owner with lots of advice of what to see and where to eat. Super friendly breakfast lady who couldn’t do enough for us. Free parking on the street or behind the hotel in a car park. We arrived on a Sunday so the car park was empty but it is also used by the industrial estate so was full when we left on Wednesday.
I like the homely feel of the Lancaster House. It I nice and quiet and in the country side. The restaurant and pub provide really well prepared and tasty food. We stayed to visit the university and this hotel is very well located.
Such a fantastic hotel in the heart of Lancaster! it’s an historical building housing one of the most beautiful pubs in Lancaster and the rooms were so tastefully decorated. Felt very homely and welcoming :)
Townhouse rooms are beautiful! Perfect for people travelling and working in Lancaster. They felt like home and had plenty of space, much nicer than a basic hotel room.
The location was ideal for a 2 day stop in Lancaster on our way to the Lake District.
The food and service was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast.
