Cozy and clean rooms in a small complex on the 864 unpaved road. Beautiful place with no other surrounding buildings and overlooking a small river and the fields. The check-in is at the Grimstunga Guesthouse and you have to drive around 6 km to reach the room. The hotel has very well equipped shared kitchen and good WiFi.

The Location was really close to the sights around Myvatn and next to a lava field. We really liked the breakfast buffet, they even had vegan options. Also it was possible to cook our own dinner at the kitchen of the hostel which was nice.

The host went above and beyond to help guests in the local area! Our car was stuck in a snow drift about 400 m away from the house, and he drove out at 9pm to rescue us and pull us out of the snow. The accommodations themselves were also fantastic. The kitchen was very well-stocked (with basic breakfast ingredients as well as cooking pots/pans), and we made good use of the washer/dryer!

Everything was recently remodeled and looks really great. Lovely little kitchen/common space that had fresh baked muffins and some other snacks available. Easy to get in and easily walkable through town.
The host was also very friendly and helpful and makes sure breakfast items stay stocked

It's a beautiful lava field and lake system.
It's a beautiful lava field and lake system. Old volcanos and lava flows. Dimmuborgir is a legendary place where the Yule Lads sleep through the summer. Bear in mind that the summer can have hatches of midges. Krafla Power Station, active geothermal mud pools, Mývatn Nature Baths. If you travel in the winter it's a great place to see the Aurora as practically no light pollution. Myvatn Lake certainly has beautiful scenery and the weather is typically warmer than the coast. For the full service/hotel travelers I would recommend Fosshotel. For campers there is plenty of accommodations.AAnonymous - 10Scored 10
So much to see and do in this area!
So much to see and do in this area! Thankfully we were up and out just after nine! We packed in so much! Lots to see down the eastern side of the lake. Each activity offered us something different and unusual that we hadn’t experienced before. The thermal baths there, although smaller than the Blue Lagoon, are much cheaper and actually offer senior rates. Two pools, one warmer than the other and one sort of large hot tub area. Well worth the money! The cakes in the restaurant there and the coffee were some of the best we’ve had and are reasonably priced. They also have larger meals and soups on offer.

Myvatn is a beautiful lake, and the surroundings have plenty to offer to visit and for hiking. It has a great variety of scenic points and shorter and longer walks. At Skutustadir is a nice information centre that also a small exhibition explaining the origin of the circle of craters over there.

Although it was a long drive from the west of Iceland, it was well worth it. There are so many hidden gems: 2 grottos, a fissure off the beaten path, a nature bath that rivals blue lagoon, and so much more. It's also not crowded due to the location. Well worth the drive!

The milk is fresh and organic, coming from their own cows. The eggs are from the raised chickens. They have home made ice cream made from the fresh cows milking. I had opportunity to watch the cows’ milking process. We stayed for 3 nights to visit all the attractions nearby. We had the Myvatn nature baths after long days’ volcano hike not far away. The staff and owners are very friendly.

The rooms were rustic in character, like being in cabins, but comfortable on the whole. We liked that there was a small patio area in front, so we could dry our towels and swim suits and leave our muddy boots outside. The restaurant was a lovely space, as was the sitting area in the lobby. The restaurant provides views of the farm (including the cows) and the lake.
