FAQs about hotels in Swansea

Green Gateway to the Gower

Upon seeing Swansea for the first time, it hits you just how green it is, especially when viewed from Kilvey Hill. On a clear day the views stretch as far as sweeping Swansea Bay and even the undulating Mumbles headland at the edge of the Gower Peninsula - the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with unspoilt beaches.

The Gower is also known for its castles, including Oystermouth Castle and Loughor Castle, overlooking the city from a hilltop. Swansea itself also has castle ruins which are Grade I listed, as is the Guildhall with its lavish interior frescoes.

Most historic city centre buildings were sadly lost during World War II, but the elegant Grand Theatre survived, as did Dylan Thomas’ childhood home in Uplands. The Swansea Museum – the oldest in Wales – is opposite the National Waterfront Museum and the LC indoor waterpark.

Offshore conditions are good for kitesurfing, and the marina shelters yachts overlooked by Wales’ tallest building: The Tower, Meridian Quay. The nearby SA1 Waterfront complex is becoming popular for its bars and restaurants, while shopping options include a covered market and the Morfa Shopping Park by Liberty Stadium, home to the city’s football and rubgy union teams.

Booking.com’s Swansea accommodation includes luxury hotels, cheap apartments and guest houses with parking.

We loved the market in Mumbles, Joe's Icecream Parlour and the "Funky Market" in the hall up the road from the seafront. It is easy to get around Swansea/Mumbles; the road signage is excellent. The road surfaces, however, were as uneven and potholed as practically anywhere else in the UK. We are definitely not a "young couple", sorry - but we did visit the large shops at Forestfach. We did not take any photos - again, sorry - you youngsters will just have to come to Swansea/Mumbles to discover its features for yourself.* *Especially Joe's Icecream Parlour - a must for our every visit!

It is an ok place to visit .

It is an ok place to visit . My 7 year old and I found things to do. We noted whilst we had breakfast looking out over Kingsway that 4 street cleaning machines (( or the same one) passed us 4 times on a Sunday morning and one man picking up litter in the space of 1.5 hours. There are many things we did not have time to see as my daughter wanted to go climbing at Flashpoint and can highly recommend this.

Like most cities some areas were a bit run down.

Like most cities some areas were a bit run down. People were generally friendly and helpful. Uplands was ideal for take away meals and buses, though the bus station had no staff and the indicator boards were not working for coaches. Thought the maritime quarter disappointing with a rusty decaying steam tug and lightship outside the museum. The museum itself was OK in places but one room was full of machinery hidden in glass cases and the bee area had no bees! The tram museum was shut and the Swansea museum was, again, interesting in parts e.g Swansea China exhibition but it still lived up to its old reputation of a 'Museum that ought to be in a Museum'

From the moment we arrived all the staff were so welcoming & friendly. Our room wasn’t ready as they were fully booked & incredibly busy due to a weekend of festivals but they gave us complimentary beers in the bar while we waited & also upgraded our room so we’d got a fab view of The Mumbles. The hotel is slightly dated (apparently being refurbed soon) but very clean & we won’t be staying anywhere else now while visiting Swansea as the location is perfect for exploring the city!

Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choices and poached eggs made fresh to order. All staff including reception, bar staff, restaurant staff at breakfast and housekeeping staff were friendly, courteous and ensured a pleasant stay for us. Since our last time at the hotel two years ago, it has been refurbished and is now more modern and contemporary, making our stay more comfortable. Great location, within walking distance to Swansea city centre.

A fascinating building, quiet location and easy to park. The owner Alison was very friendly, welcoming and eager to assist. I felt comfortable and it was more homely than a hotel. Not to far from Swansea city I would say a 15 minute walk or get the bus. In the evening I wandered up the road to the local shops, restaurants and bars.
