The Old Mount Gambier Gaol, hotel in Mount Gambier

Enjoy a unique accommodations experience when you stay at The Old Mount Gambier Jail.

Thanks James for a wonder stay! We loved the unique experience of staying in a historic building and learning about its past. The room and the common areas were very clean and the kitchen was well stocked with utensils and cutlery, great for cooking a quick meal or just making a cuppa. The family had a lot of fun playing games in the meals area :) And thank you so much for the dress up photo shoot before we were 'set free' :) It was a great experience and I highly recommend it to anyone (including families) wanting a different experience, not to mention the very reasonable price!

Grand Central Motel, hotel in Mount Gambier

Grand Central Motel is located in the heart of Mount Gambier, within a 5-minute walk of the City Cave Gardens and Sir Robert Helpmann Theater.

Property was in a central location, and was reasonably clean. We booked a queen room which we did not get. Our room had a double bed ( not queen as booked) and an extra single bed, which we did not need. The room was very sparse, and lighting was either bright fluorescent or nothing. ( no bedside lamps) For the price it was adequate if you just want somewhere to sleep for the night, but not a space you would want to spend time in during the day.

Such a pretty town with so many lovely houses and building. Lovely history to the place. Great vibe in the town centre with cafes and pubs and community. Lots to see and do with all the sinkholes, lakes and proximity to Coonawarra and Port MacDonell beaches

For a big town it lacked a choice of restaurants, we arrived quite late as travelling and nothing was open in town. Actually felt like a ghost town. Good place to stop if travelling ocean road but only need one night there! The Barns where we stayed had a good restaurant that was still open but is 20 min drive from town centre.

Much to see and do within a 100km radius of the city.

Much to see and do within a 100km radius of the city. It is a pity the the Princess Margaret Rose Cave is currently shut and there is no indication about a reopening date. The expected date (End of 2023) is now history. Direction signs should carry this information. Naracoorte Caves excellent. Get directions to "Hells Hole" and go for a short walk, Be amazed! Visitor centre is very helpful. If you are reasonably fit climb Mt Schank and walk the rim of an dormant volcano.

Despite the amazing natural attractions (especially the Blue Lake which is resplendent at this time of year), Mount Gambier seems to be revelling in past glories and much of the tourist infrastructure appears dated and run-down. Even the 'attractions' sign as you drive into town is peeling and faded...

This is a well run motel with friendly efficient staff. The management obviously work hard to make this older style motel comfortable, and provide everything you'd need for an overnight stay. Rooms are a decent size. The location is excellent, being a short walk to restaurants, shops, art gallery, library and theatre. It's half a block to the excellent Mac's hotel. It's quiet, not on a major road.

The Mount Gambier Hotel was a delight to stay in. The room was beautiful. They have captured the history of the hotel in their rooms with a high-end finish. Bathrooms are amazing. The hotel itself is lovely, and the service was exceptional at all times. All staff were very personable and made you feel at home. The food was fantastic. I can't say enough how much I enjoyed my stay there.

Central to everything. Good ventilation (sliding door and window) allowed the breeze to go through the room. Easy to book for breakfast etc, pretty good choices- granola is fab. Staff very accommodating re a late check out we needed whilst waiting to move to their sister motel due to our circumstances changing unexpectedly.

It was not what we were expected at all bathroom was dirty , toilet was disgusting . Bed was not comfortable. We should have been told that the hotel is under renovation but even hotel under renovation it shouldn’t affect the cleanliness Paid so much for that not worth it

The accomodation at the Federal Hotel was above the normal tradition hotel standard. Newly renovated ensuite bathrooms made the stay more comfortable. The in-house dining was excellent at this centrally located hotel with friendly competent staff.

Value for money, I initially booked at The Henty (the new owners) but at a 40% discount the Red Carpet Motel was hard to resist as we didn't spend any time at the facility except to sleep and take a shower.
