Walking distance to everything, easy to get around, plenty of choices for places to eat as well as a great Cole's supermarket. You can be as busy or as relaxed as you want to be. A road trip to Daintree, Cape Tribulation and the Wildlife Discovery Centre is easily done in a day. A boat trip up the Dickson Inlet is a fun and informative thing to do. It is a magnificent area and Port Douglas is one of the prettiest towns in Australia. It is a very safe, secure area, with both the local inhabitants and tourists very friendly and polite. The number of people from all parts of the world was surprising and refreshing. We hired a car from Cairn airport to travel to Port Douglas for 5 days. We booked the snorkeling tour as well as the Daintree tour, both were well organised by the tour leaders. The restaurants were great but very crowded, luckily my daughter has booked everything in advance. This is a tourist town with the population swelling to 4 or 5 times it's live-in residents, but that doesn't detract from the ambiance and vitality of the area. Everywhere you go there are people enjoying themselves, and there are places for every age group. Port Douglas is the ideal jumping point for travelling around with Cairns 90 minutes one way and Cape Tribulation 90 minutes the other. And in between you have Kuranda with the Scenic Rail, Sky Rail and the markets, Hartley's Croc Adventures, Craiglee, Mossman Gorge, just to name o few. And if you simply want to relax then go to the beach at the end of Macrossan Street and find a magnificent place to wander or sleep.Guest review byPengliiAustralia - 10.0

Port Douglas is a beautiful place with a range of great activities. A lovely, long beach, plenty of shops, cafe's and restaurants. The Wildlife Habitat was fabulous as was our visit to Mossman Gorge. The shuttle buses are a great and cheap way to get around.Guest review byFayeAustralia - 10.0

Lovely location filled with things to do. We loved staying right in the middle of town close to cafes and restaurants. A meal at Zinc is highly recommended. We only stayed for two nights to check out the place and will definitely return to beat the winter blues.Guest review byLizbethAustralia

Port Douglas is small enough to reach most places in a 10-minute walk. The apartments were great with covered parking and a lovely pool to cool down in the evening. The toad-racing at Chilly's Pizza (twice a week) was a hoot. I've recommended Port Douglas to friends and would love to visit again. Great beaches, pubs, restaurants and shops. Ben also went out of his way to allow us to store our bags when the hotel wouldn't allow it - this meant we could go and enjoy the Port Douglas markets without dragging our bags around, even though checkout was 10am.
