The place was very clean, the staffs were always welcoming. I needed to know where the microwave is, as I have a toddler and I need to warm up his food. They immediately checked if they have additional microwave and they got it sent to our room without any charge. They know how to take care of their guests.

The staff was always accommodating. E.g., When checking in, I asked if I could change my assigned room to one on a higher floor: done! For meals, I sat at the bar as I was travelling by myself. All the servers were very friendly and attentive. I was there on Remembrance weekend, and as the Lord Elgin is very close to Parliament Hill and the Cenotaph, I met patriotic people from all over Canada, including members of our armed services.

A Symbol of Canadian Pride

On the south bank of the Ottawa River, the Canadian capital Ottawa is a grand symbol of what the country stands for: bilingualism, civic pride and wonderful vistas.

Facing Langevin Block (the prime minister’s office) is the city’s most famous landmark - the Centre Block parliament building. Its tall central tower and circular parliamentary library make a great photograph from Gatineau across the river, which is joined to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rideau Canal by a series of locks. Skating on the frozen canal is a highlight of the huge Ottawa Winterlude festival.

The city’s history is detailed in Bytown Museum by the locks. Opposite is peaceful Major’s Hill Park, overlooked by Château Laurier, a historic hotel named after a former prime minister. Also named after him is Laurier House, his seat of office. Other important national buildings include the Royal Canadian Mint, Supreme Court, and Rideau Hall, the Queen’s official residence when in the country.

The business district and Ottawa Convention Centre are in Downtown, and nearby shopping options include Rideau Mall and ByWard Market - the oldest farmers’ market in Canada and the area with the best nightlife.

So many museums to see which were all excellent. Parliament Hill area was very vibrant in spite of construction. It is a very walkable city that has many main attractions close by (Fairmont hotel, Senate, Byward market, Sparks Street, museums, canal). There are so many restaurants here too-in each of the areas visited. Also, as we had no car, we took a taxi to Gatineau Park and then we were able to use the free shuttle to get around to the main sites in the park-lots of hiking opportunities there and fall leaves were beautiful

Beautiful city, friendly people in general, and frankly, the city is cleaner, more organized than Montreal. Even people here are friendlier. The museums are amazing places here to learn and educate kids. They are wonderful places for the whole family, and they offer free visits for public.

I’ve been to Ottawa for few a times and I always enjoy walking around. The crowd is just right. Can roam around the city even at night with ease. There are lots of restaurants and cafes. I always enjoyed sitting in a cafe with a cup of tea 🙃. There’s always have something to see in whatever season you are visiting. A city with great history and a charming atmosphere.

Ottawa is quite compact and fairly easy to navigate to the many museums and historical sights. We enjoyed the National history museum in Gatineau this trip and wish we could have had more time. The Napoleon immersive is not to be missed even if a bit dizzying. There was extensive exhibits and history of our First Nations and early Canada. And the surrounding grounds along the river are outstanding.

A lot of people say Ottawa is a boring city, but honestly, I didn’t feel that way at all. There’s actually so much to explore. The city is full of Canadian history, beautiful architecture, great restaurants, cozy coffee shops, and plenty of bars to enjoy at night. Unfortunately, like many large cities around the world, downtown also has a visible homelessness and drug-use problem. Still, it never made us feel unsafe or negatively impacted our experience overall. I’d say spending 3 to 5 days in the city is the perfect amount of time to explore the main attractions, enjoy the atmosphere, and experience what Ottawa has to offer.

Ottawa at Christmas time is absolutely lovely! I loved the Christmas Market and the lovely shops in Hintonburg. Downtown Ottawa is beautiful and has an incredible art museum along with amazing bakeries and restaurants. Next time I'm going to plan to go ice skating on the canal.

Many nice restaurants and bars and very lively nightlife. Loved the architecture. The tea at the Chateau was lovely and we enjoyed the bus/boat ride tour of the city. I love that there are beautiful parks all over the city. There's always a place to sit and rest. There are so many things to do, beautiful sites to see, museums, beautiful walking trails. It's amazing that you can walk into another province and visit a museum, then walk back. We stayed 3 days in the downtown core, walked 37 km during that time and still didn't have anough time to explore and see everything we wanted to. People in the stores, restaurants, hotel, are friendly, helpful and always "there". You can go, park your vehicle and not need it until it's time to go home!

Depending on personal tastes, consider the following: 1) Tour Parliament 2) Visit the Museum of Canadian History 3) Visit the National Gallery We used the Hop-On/Hop-Off bus, which was a great way to see the city without a car. We also tried the Ottawa River cruise. Comparing both, we felt that we saw more on the Hop-On/Hop-Off bus. Eat at Milestones Restaurant's outdoor courtyard--great menu and service.

I was very satisfied with my stay. I traveled with my 9-month-old baby and felt very comfortable. The room had a small kitchenette area where I could easily wash bottles in the sink. Breakfast was delicious, varied, and always hot. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The playpen provided for my baby was very useful. I also really appreciated the 24/7 coffee available in the lobby. The hotel was quiet, clean, and perfect for families. Its location close to downtown was also a big plus.

The location is the best in Ottawa. Located between the Byward Market and the Parliament Buildings and backed by the Ottawa River, it makes seeing the sights on foot quite easy. As I traveled across Canada this summer, I tried to stay at the grand old railway hotels like this one. The staff are exemplary and hark back to another era in travel.

The breakfast is generous and offers many choices. The price of the hotel is very reasonable (albeit a marked increase in recent years). Suites are spacious. The location is convenient for travelers having meetings downtown Ottawa.
