On the south bank of the Ottawa River, the Canadian capital Ottawa is a grand symbol of what the country stands for: bilingualism, civic pride and wonderful vistas.
Facing Langevin Block (the prime minister’s office) is the city’s most famous landmark - the Centre Block parliament building. Its tall central tower and circular parliamentary library make a great photograph from Gatineau across the river, which is joined to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rideau Canal by a series of locks. Skating on the frozen canal is a highlight of the huge Ottawa Winterlude festival.
The city’s history is detailed in Bytown Museum by the locks. Opposite is peaceful Major’s Hill Park, overlooked by Château Laurier, a historic hotel named after a former prime minister. Also named after him is Laurier House, his seat of office. Other important national buildings include the Royal Canadian Mint, Supreme Court, and Rideau Hall, the Queen’s official residence when in the country.
The business district and Ottawa Convention Centre are in Downtown, and nearby shopping options include Rideau Mall and ByWard Market - the oldest farmers’ market in Canada and the area with the best nightlife.
Ottawa accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with pools, B&Bs with parking and apartments near the train station, all easily accessible from MacDonald-Cartier Airport.
Great place to visit. We loved the museums and going to Mass at Notre Dame Basilica. Highlights included the Rideau Canal, Bank of Canada Museum, Museums of Nature and Science, and History. Lots of lovely walks to admire the fairylike Victorian Renaissance architecture.

Current state of on going construction, road work, major issues on the 417, visiting Ottawa is a real pain. Nothing but Traffic jams every where even on Sundays. I avoided the 417 after i got into stop and no go traffic
on Sunday(unbelievable), avoid 417 for the rest of our trip. As to local road, major issues in the morning and in the evening, unbelievable.
I was there last year and stayed at a hotel in the east end. I need to get to center town / By ward Market and Bank street area need to use 417, surprised by traffic/construction and blocked exist and entrance ramps on the 417.
Also watch for traffic cams for speed and parking. Always wonderful to get the mail traffic ticket.

We are at Lone star bar and grill. It was more like Mexican dining. It was good but a bit pricy. We ate at Hong Kong kitchen which was by our hotel (the Hampton by Hilton), and it was awesome. We didn't see much of ottawa as I was there for an event. Clean city

For me history, old architectures, and cultural diversity are the draws! The museums, restaurants, art galleries, shopping at the Byward Market, the boat cruises, and visiting interesting and historic sites such as Parliment Hill, Notre Dame Cathedral, and Laurier House were the high points.
Transportation was easily accessible.

We really enjoyed the museums, in particular The National Gallery and The Canadian War Museum, and the architecture of the buildings and the public monuments are tremendous. The area around Parliament is walkable. A car is not necessary if you stay near downtown. Lots of dining options with a good mix of price points. Visitors must get tickets, free, for tours of any of the Parliament Buildings and for The Mint, easily booked on line.

I visited for a wedding and reunions with family members who live rurally near a town south of Ottawa. My niece and I had time to drive around familiar areas west and south of the central district and we found good places to eat, plus a worthwhile flea market in Stittsville. Growing up in Ottawa and returning for visits have provided a wide range of knowledge and experiences, which I have often shared with friends -- and will continue doing so. In addition, I recently wrote for a publication about what was known as Bytown before it was selected as our capital city. There is plenty of interesting places to visit, history to share, plus modern attractions and events. I always recommend walking downtown, especially Sparks Street, visiting the Parliament Buildings, the National Gallery of Canada, the Royal Canadian Mint, the Bank of Canada museum, and Byward Market.
The only positive I could say about it is that it is very close to Parliament Hill, ByWard Market and many restaurants and coffee shops - perfect if you just want to walk around downtown Ottawa and see the sights. The housekeeping staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking was very close (but at an extra charge) and this hotel is pet friendly (but also at an extra charge).
Thank to all the staff for our great staying! Our special thanks to Ugur Kucuk (sales coordinator), who appeared to be super friendly and responsive. Our pleasure to meet him at the hotel Holiday Inn Ottawa East.
The location was great central to downtown Ottawa with multiple restaurants nearby. Having a 2 bedroom suite with a kitchenette worked well for the 3 of us. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Great location and quiet for downtown, very convenient for UOttawa, Govt offices and some great places to eat. Transport easy to and from the airport, using Uber.
