Loved the nature--we were able to see a quetzal just on the hotel grounds. It is a beautiful area with its own hiking trails, a great restaurant, as well as other restaurants in walking distance. Staff were wonderful.

Great location and nice mountain view. Wonderful staff, family-run hotel, we were greeted by the lovely and friendly grandmother who gave us good tips about the area and directions to a hike around the property and a hiking trail to waterfalls nearby.

Great location could hear the stream below. Restaurant walking distance great trout up the road. Loved sitting in and outside watching the hummingbirds in the bottle brushes outside. Attempted to see the elusive quetzel. Alas only saw a flash of bright green in the park as he flew away.

The cabins at Miriam's Quetzals lodge are cozy and comfortable. The grounds are also amazing- surrounded by forest with lovely views and chairs and decks scattered around to relax in and take in the scenery and the many beautiful verbs. The staff is warm and kind and make you feel right at home. Beds were comfortable and the small heater worked very well (almost too well! we turned it on lower the 2nd night). It was nice to have the 2km trail through the forest and the short walk up to the delightful restaurant and market, and the pizza place (amazing pizza!). Also, Dantica Lodge across the street has a restaurant, tours, and more trails. It was very hard to leave this place :( Would 100% recommend and would love to return!

The view from the cabin was very beautiful, restaurant view of hummingbirds really nice, food was good. Owners were nice and loaned me a hairdryer since there wasn't one in the room. They did provide coffee but we took the container to them daily to refill.

It's beautiful, lots of nice restaurants, The Pizzeria Los Colibries, chef Victor, was fabulous and not expensive plus all organic. Nice restaurants all throughout the valley although all were associated with Lodges we did not stay at.

I really enjoyed the bird feeders off the deck. I felt that for the price of the room, breakfast should have been included in the price, which is very typical in Costa Rica. The diner and breakfast were very good.

This place is a bird-lover's paradise!

This place is a bird-lover's paradise! And it's nice to feel cold sometimes in an otherwise warm, tropical country. Everyone is very nice, and very nature-oriented. The trees are all primary growth and fascinating and beautiful to see. This is one of my favorite places in Costa Rica (so far).

A magical valley, surrounded by an inimaginable amount of flora and fauna. Still a quiet place, with no massive tourism activity yet, greenery is what you will see the most. The Savegre river is astonishing, and its sound is like the perfect match to the landscape. If you are looking for a mountain/forest destination while you are here in Costa Rica, I will recommend San Gerardo de Dota.

The Quetzal valley has its own micro-climate, so its actually a lot colder and less humid than the rest of Costa Rica. You can walk everywhere, it's super safe and the river rushes near the street across some beautiful forest areas, there's no way you don't detox from city vibes in this place. The restaurants Lauraceas and Alma de Arbol are excellent, with super friendly waiters, modern menus and accesible prices. Los Lagos cabins have an awesome mountain view and are near the river, offer an excellent breakfast and are right in the centre of the valley. Bring appropriate clothing -preferably waterproof and with good hiking shoes so you get the most out of your stay regardless of the weather.

    Birders paradise.

Birders paradise. This is the best place to see quetzal birds. 1 full day is enough. You must be here for a 5.30am quetzal birding tour if you want to see the quetzals. Cool- about 50° at night, 62-70° during the day.

This was the best hotel we stayed in, in 5 weeks in Costa Rica. Everything was perfect, the design of the buildings, the aesthetics and attention to detail, the level of comfort, the service, the food, the cocktails(!) I have travelled a lot but this is one of the places in the world that will stay with me for a long time. Because of the altitude it does get chilly at night so come prepared and make adjustments as needed. For example, we would take a shower while it was still warm, in the late afternoon, rather than first thing in the morning.

Beautiful view from our windows, you can’t beat waking up to that! A very peaceful setting, good for relaxing and getting away from it all. There was great food in the restaurant. There were nice trails around the hotel to explore. Staff were really helpful and kind all the time. The hotel is in a great location to spot many beautiful birds. We had some amazing food and coffee in the village of San Gerardo de Dota also. It got chilly in the evenings and we enjoyed using the ethanol fire to make our room nice and cosy!

The Hotel facilities are absolutely beautiful and the service was incredible. Greivin, the manager was super helpful upon check in and also guided us on a really cool Quetzal watching tour. The hotel offers a really nice breakfast in a beautiful dining hall, and also the interior design of the common areas is tastefully selected. We enjoyed a nice round of Billiard while having coffee and beers, and enjoying the cozy fire next to us. The staff really helps make your stay as pleasant as possible.

The location is amazing, deep in a valley in San Gerardo de Dota, close to Los Quetzales National Park. The unit looks like a converted container or trailer and is well equipped and comfortable. Like others have mentioned, it does get cold at night. This was ok for us, but it was a huge (and welcome) contrast to the searing heat on the Osa Peninsula.

We traveled with our pet Pug and it was great. There aren't many hotels that accept pets so this one excedeed our expectations in that regard. The location is excellent to do some hikes (trails start relatively close to the hotel) e.g. the Public Savegre river trail or the private trails on Hotel Savegre. The staff is super friendly
