Hope Cottage Bell Tent Retreat, hotel in Ashbourne

Offering a garden and garden view, Hope Cottage Bell Tent Retreat is set in Ashbourne, 36 km from Buxton Opera House and 36 km from Chatsworth House.

The hosts Kerry & Ian were wonderful and couldn't be more helpful. The animals were a lot of fun, joining in on our cooking wounders and helping us finish our culinary delights. Unfortunately, the Herring chicks way up in the treetops and hen chicks didn't hatch before our departure but hey ho, ce la vie! There is much to see and visit in the local area, shops, cafe's, cheese shops, countryside, National parks etc. depending on your liking. The weather for our stay was great the first night, which was magical then turned a little drizzly for a bit but that in itself was lovely listening to the drizzle on the canvas. A great glamping experience and an affordable luxury getaway for 2. Sorry kerry & Ian, you will be blessed again with our company when next back in town. I would give this a 9.5 but there wasn't this option.

Fabulous town but needs greater footfall and a greater number of quality galleries etc. All the basic shops are available and great cafes but just feels like things might go down hill if the visitor numbers don’t improve.

it was busier than we imagined. we ate in two lovely independent restaurants/cafes, Lamplight & Corner stone. The park was nice to stretch legs in but is not that large...we were only in town a few hours.

    Small cute place.

Small cute place. Great genuinely Gluten Free and affordable Thai Restaurant in the center called 'Thai Basement' (01335 300305). Cute cellar based restaurant. Don't let the tiny door leading down to it put you off, it's a gem!

    Lovely, charming little town, St.

Lovely, charming little town, St. Oswald's church is amazing to visit. The little Historical Centre is also a must to learn about the Ashbourne Shrovetide Football, and the Memorial Park was lovely too. Easy access to the Tissington Trail is from the centre of Ashbourne, but sadly a substantial length of it was closed for our visit due to Ash Tree felling. This is due to continue well into December. Short drive to Dovedale NT Nature reserve, but the river was in quite a full spate due to the recent rain so access to the Stepping Stones were limited. Ilam Park was a good alternative place to visit however. We had an Anniversary meal at The Lamplight which was exceptionally good, and we had excellent lunches at Jack Rabbit's and Beaumont's. We also had a couple of beers in the lovely Queen's Vaults which is a very cosy Craft Beer bar, as well as an excellent pint of Draught Bass in the Wheel Inn, where we were welcomed by the very friendly locals.

    Lovely village.

Lovely village. Lots of pubs, restaurants, shops and places to walk. Very friendly people who are happy to stop and chat with you. Excellent location for Alton Towers - 20 minutes away. Very good bike hire for short or longer rides. Tissington is a safe journey along the Tissington trail. Have been here three times and still find new things to do. Easy to find different cultures of food - Chinese, Indian, British, etc.. Looking forward to returning next year.

We had a lovely weekend break at the Izzak Walton hotel. We chose the hotel for the location as it is ideal for exploring Dovedale and the surrounding area, we took our bikes so had a great time cycling around. The hotel had a lovely feel to it, friendly staff who made you feel very welcome. We enjoyed breakfast and three course evening meals, 'compliments to the chef' as they were delicious!
