Went a walk to the falls, in the snow, was absolutely beautiful. Had a drink in the rector inn and the crags hotel both really good. The people in Callander are so friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend a visit.
Callander was a lovely friendly town. People always said hello as you were coming and going into shops etc. There was a fantastic little gallery by the town cross where we picked up fabulous framed pencil drawings at great prices. They had glasswork and pottery too. The little chip shop closest to the Old Post Office was the best! Really fresh and the smell wafted along the street :-) There were lots of walks in the local area and most places were doggie friendly too. The fudge shop had loads of nice treats but was sooooooo expensive!
Callander is good for seeing the Trossachs, Stirling Castle and hiking. Lots of lovely walks, not too strenuous. Also distilleries and great scenery. The town itself has some lovely eateries, miniature golf, shops to potter around, the remains of a Roman Fort and Calder Meadows. There are walks you can do from the town or just a short drive where you can leave your car free of charge in Forestry Commission car parks. It's only an hour from Edinburgh but it feels like you've really gotten away.
We enjoyed sitting by the river and watching the wildlife. Callender is a very busy town with lots of heavy passing through. We ate in two hotels and could not fault the food.Parking could be a problem during the day but was better in the evening
Callander is the gate to the highlands. There is so much to see and do around! It is a great base to explore the lochs and munros, the Trossachs National park or just to hang out and have a great cup of coffee.
