This family-run country hotel is overlooked by Harlech Castle and is opposite the championship Royal St. David's golf course within the Snowdonia National Park. This hotel is located just at the foot of the hill in front of Harlech Castle. Lots of parking, easy to find. The breakfast was excellent.
Offering free onsite parking, Byrdir House lies in the conservation area of Harlech High Street, 350 yards from Harlech Castle, a 10-minute walk from Royal St. Great location..happy to book us in at Bistro oposite which was amazing grt food well priced..breakfast more than you can eat..well presented..all in all excellant
HArlech is an ideal place to travel to other attractions/areas in North Wales. It's less than an hour to most places. Some lovely walks round about too. Restaurants get booked up quickly so advance booking is advisable.
Harlech isn't geared up for the amount of tourist it gets visiting the lovely castle. It's an old town with narrow streets, not suitable for lots of traffic /parking, although there are some reasonably priced car parks a short walk from the castle. There isn't many shops, even off-licenses/general stores, and most shops close at 4pm. Getting food for lunch or dinner on a weekend is virtually impossible unless you've booked well in advance. On a Saturday, one of the cafes shut completely and one only served cake so keep that in mind if visiting for a day trip. Nonetheless, it's a stunning view from the castle and the beach is great. I'd recommend staying in a different town and paying a short visit to Harlech rather than staying in Harlech (although the holiday parks might have more facilities onsite?).
The castle and beach are a must . A photographers haven due to the plethora of sunrise and sunset viewing spots. To avoid disappointment it is essential to book restaurants in advance of your stay.
Hard to book to eat - probably due to Post lockdown rush. Avoid the Chinese. Chippy is nice. Gluten free options are pretty widespread as are vegan and veggie. The castle is small but lovely - avoid the cafe - overpriced for frozen chips and a boring burger. Nice coffee though V hilly - not suitable to walk unless you're pretty fit.
Harlech was beautiful. We visited the castle which was lovely. I would say don't bother with going down to the watergate especially if it's raining as the stone steps get very slippy. It was a long way down and up to read about the gate and it is mentioned on the main storyboards in the castle. But if it is sunny and you want to get your steps up go for it. We had lunch at one of the cafes in the wilderness, where the wool shop is set back off the road opposite the castle. We all had the ploughmens which was good though I wish it had come with a bread roll. We even came back in the evening to the Indian restaurant Harlech Tandoori, as it seems not many places serve food on a Monday in this part of Wales. We loved the Indian though very good food and we found the guy who was doing all the front of house work rather amusing. I would try one of the other eateries for lunch the Wilderness didn't have much choice and sandwiches were premade not made fresh so if we go back we'll try a different place for lunch.
Harlech is a small, quaint village with a few shops, cafes and a couple of pubs. Upper Harlech can be reached up a very steep hill. Some of the cafes and restaurants were not open due to Covid which was a shame. I would imagine that in normal times Harlech would be a lovely place to visit.
We had a great stay. Angela & Peter were great hosts, professional, informative and nothing was too much trouble. The room was spacious and very clean and had a great view of Harlech beach. Breakfast was excellent quality and although pre-ordered the day before is cooked fresh ready for your preferred time to eat. Our whole experience was first class and cannot thank Angela and Peter enough for making our stay so excellent
Lovely spacious apartment, clean, tidy and very tastefully furnished with everything you need. Great location right next to Harlech Castle with a few shops and restaurants close by. Thanks for the Welsh Cakes and chocolate on arrival! Allocated spaces on the car park directly outside.
Very spacious. Ideal location for exploring the Harlech/Barmouth area. Excellent facilities - we loved the cinema room! Owner answered our queries very professionally. Right next to Harlech Castle and very short walk to beautiful beach. Fantastic value for money.
