Quaint cottage in beautiful location with a very aminable host. A most relaxing and peaceful place with plenty of scope to walk and explore the countryside . The cottage location is ideal for exploring Dumfries and Galloway
New Luce is a stunning little village, set in the glorious Scottish countryside with 2 rivers running through it. The villagers are the warmly, friendliest villagers we have ever met. Inviting us to go to their Tai Chi classes, or evening walks. We spent a few mornings at the New Luce post office, sharing a brew and chatting with the locals. A great base to see the fabulous southwest countryside of Scotland. We even grabbed the Stena ferry and visited Belfast.
The residents of New Luce are very friendly. It's a very small remote village that I feel, demands respect. It oozes peace and quiet. The pub was closed when we visited. Where we were staying, the couple told us that the pub now belonged to the villagers, they were refurbishing it. However, no beer would be served until sometime in 2020. (Good excuse to go back again). Apparently, there's some very nice walks around the surrounding area which unfortunately we didn't get to do. We did get to visit Northern Ireland, Stranraer and the Gem rock museum. New Luce is an ideal base for Scotland's south and west coast with the Port of Cairnryan approx. half an hours drive for ferries to Northern ireland
In the countryside, lovely walk, great overnight stay in a surprisingly comfortable 'shed' in a large garden with a super genial host. Loved the Free fresh eggs, kindly given to us by Harry. Special place for sure. Highly recommend Nadav's shed.
Peaceful spot just bustling with birdlife sparrows swirling around and sparrows chattering in the hedges. The village is very small and only one shop plus the hotel. All the cottages have lovely gardens - great for walking near the river and very near to Southern upland way
Lovely to go to a place that's off grid for mobile phones/satnav/ wifi..this place takes you back to the days before al, that techno noise...and We didn't miss it... We went to Stranraer and Mull of Galloway..Climbed 93 steps to the top of the light house. We drove throught the streets that were taking part in the Scarecrow Fest...some very imaginative Scarecrows hanging around here and there. Next time I hope to go the Sky park and a hike to the Kite Trail. From Glasgow I advise avoiding the motorway and travel on the A702 to New Luce you get the most amazing views and journey
