The most welcoming staff we have ever experienced...and we are in our sixties so have been around! Luba and Fiona are absolutely amazing...they went over and above to make us and our little pug dog Colin feel comfortable and happy. They are both exceptionally wonderful at their jobs and I cannot recommend more highly if you want a welcoming, comfortable and relaxing stay on the Isle of Bute.

    We arrived in Rothesay after crossing on the ferry from...

    We arrived in Rothesay after crossing on the ferry from Wemyss Bay - the Victorian station there and second hand bookshop are worth having a look at. On Bute, we loved Scalpsie Bay and nearby walks. The exhibition on the sea front in Rothesay was interesting - and the Victorian toilets! St Blane's chapel was great too, and Rothesay castle - loved the passion of the staff! We had taken the car but there seemed to be plenty of buses to get around - also a great place for cycling. Pies from the independent butcher's were delicious, as was our lunch at Gather Deli. If we had had drier weather we would have spent more time on the beautiful beaches.

    I used to visit Rothesay in my childhood but for just half...

    I used to visit Rothesay in my childhood but for just half days. This recent 4 day break gave me the chance to see much more. Dont miss Mount Stuart House, Ardcraig Gardens, Ettrick Point, the 5 minute ferry from Colintraive. Sadly the town centre is going the way of a lot of town centres but there are gems of shops that need exploring. Great quality butcher McQueens, the tool shop, the small ice cream shop, the gardens on the port front, If you have a car a trip around the island is very easy but some narrow roads (it is an island) to visit the stunning beaches and tucked away coves.

    Beautiful island. Views are amazing . Get out and a out around the island . Ettrick bay has lovey beach and cafe re opened. Scalpsie bay for peace and quiet. Kilchattan bay for lovely views. Kerry Croy. Mount Stuart for some history (beautiful building and grounds). Lovely 35 mjnute sail from Wemyss Bay. Good selection of shops in Rothesay. A few buildings on front being renovated but beautiful gardens and information centre worth a visit. Had dinner in lovely restaurant on front called Ambience. Food was amazing.

    We know Bute very well. Have been several times.

    We know Bute very well. Have been several times. We use the Glenburn hotel, but there are several other guest houses available. The views look to the mainland on the East, Arran on the West, which is stunning. There are two ferries on Bute, the main ferry from Wemyss Bay, to Rothesay, and the very convenient ferry at Colintraive. If you play golf, take your clubs, although with Rothesay GC, either an electric trolley or buggy is essential.

    I went to visit old family places so was quite content.

    I went to visit old family places so was quite content. However if you've never been before you may be happy with the scenery , coastline , countryside , however the restaurants , bars etc is very limited in the town centre and this could do with updating & improving.

    Rothesay town is in need of improvement but understand that...

    Rothesay town is in need of improvement but understand that it is getting better. Where the Victorian villas are is a really nice area. The countryside is very nice. Port Bannatyne is a nice and quiet harbour village. Sandy beaches at Scalpsie Bay and Ettrick Bay. St Blanes Church ruins is well worth a visit. There are abundance of wildlife around.

    Wonderful view of Rothesay harbour. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed for self catering including a pod coffee machine! Kitchen equipment was fantastic. The two bathrooms made it quicker to get ready in the morning. Parking off street and just outside the front door. Our dog also felt right at home here and loved the veranda, as did we! The bread, butter and milk on arrival was a welcomed treat! The host was very friendly and helpful. We hope to return and stay again.

    The hotel is ideally situated just outside the town of Rothesay. We received a warm welcome on our arrival and found the hotel to be clean and comfortable.. Our room was tastefully furnished and a had a large comfortable bed. The ensuite was also well appointed. There was a good selection at breakfast and the cooked breakfast was very well prepared. The owner was also very helpful throughout.
