Important Port of Saintly Significance
The Apulian capital Bari has been known for its port since Roman times. Nowadays there are 2 harbours: cruise ships and ferries to Greece and Croatia depart from the new port, while the old port shelters fishing vessels.
Between them is a seafront road bordering the real attraction – the old town. Narrow, cobbled streets lead under arches to hidden piazzas with pavement cafes. Many are on adjoining Piazza Mercantile and Piazza del Ferrarese, where the old Roman road is exposed.
The imposing 12th-century Norman-Swabian Castle guards the west of the historic centre, and the simple Cathedral of San Sabino is from the same period. Equally understated is the Basilica of St Nicholas, housing relics of the saint. Pope John Paul II once prayed there, which may have given rise to Bari Airport’s name: Karol Wojtyła Airport.
Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the meeting point of the old town and the Murat district, built under orders of Napoleon’s brother-in-law. Facing each other across this street are the colourful façades of the municipal office and Piccinni Theatre, though most prestigious is the Petruzzelli Theatre opera house.
Booking.com’s Bari accommodation includes luxury hotels by the Fiera del Levante, cheap city centre apartments, and B&Bs near the train station. For families, the slides and swimming pools of Bari Acquapark make a great day out.

Bari has a beautiful old town and excellent infrastructure for tourists. You can easily explore the surrounding area without a car by using the regional trains – tickets are very affordable. Not your typical choice for a seaside location. Bari is split into two; one side of the train tracks and the other. The old town is beautiful, interesting and vibrant, this flows into the modern town, which is quite interesting and has a lot of cafes and shops, but not as pretty as the old town. Then there is the other side of the tracks, which has little to recommend it. Not a lot of greenery, cafes or activity, just lots of condominiums and the prison.Guest review byEva - 10.0

Bari has a great vibe people are very hospitable, food is very good, prices are very reasonable for everything 1 euro bus ride from airport to Bari Centrale Train Station if you buy the ticket from the bar/newspaper stand in bari Centrale or in airport and 1.5 euros from the driver for bus number 16 and 5 euros for express bus .Bus 16 is just as good as express bus only that is has fewer seats and you might end up standing during the 30 minutes bus ride from the airport to Bari Centrale .Saint Nicola Cathedral is an amazing place where one can find Peace of mind and heart from God and tranquility especially in the crypt where there is the tomb of Saint Nicholas.Also the Russian Orthodox Saint Nicola Church is beautiful and has many relics of Saints and beautiful IconsGuest review byMarius CRomania

We came to Bari and spend there two nights, we have been pick up from the airport and then give us the ride to airport where we pick up the rental car. The railway station is 10 minutes walk.
