Noto is lovely if you like a peaceful town filled with Baroque architecture. There isn't a huge amount to see so a stopover works well, but we found the people very warm and loved the atmosphere. The tiny Bedda Matria restaurant on the main corso by the Duomo is an absolute gem if you can get in: there are only 5 tables.
A Most beautiful Baroque City . Lively and busy with visitors from all over the world. Loads of pretty little shops around the high street as well as restaurants where wonderful dinners and lunches are awaiting to dance with your taste buds. Loads of History and Events and Museums. Night time one will find a great number of wine bars with friendly people to enjoy good wine and eats.
Noto appeared to us as described in the guide-a lovely example of a nearly totally baroque town. It was easy to walk around the main part of it. Another plus: a variety of trips that can be easily accomplished out of Noto, such as Villa Romana di Tellaro, Marzamemi and Siracusa.
This really lives up to its name as the Baroque Jewel of Sicily. In the 7 days we were there we certainly did not use up the full list of good places to eat lunch or dinner and the cannole speciality sweet pastries or icecreams, or visit the 18th century building (churches, palaces and humbler dwellings) that decorate the town. It also makes a great centre for a variety of trips to historic towns, antiquities, hills, small mountains and gorges for walking, hiking and climbing, and beaches.
In Taormina, the streets are lush with plants, but Noto streets and balconies are rather stark. Also, very many buildings seem to be abandoned and not cared for, as, to be fair all the towns and cities we visited except Taormina, but in Noto it's particularly noticable. That' gives a sad impression. There is a strong feeling that it's not managed as well as Taormina. At the same time, there are good things to see - churches, palaces. We saw 3 palaces, all very beautiful, one abandoned to become a complete ruin and it was lucky to be bought by someone who bought and restored it.
Interesting Baroque architecture and some good restaurants. Driving can be a challenge and don't even think of finding parking on the street. Dining at Ristorante Nanna is a treat - highly recommended
Noto
We loved everything about our stay here. Not only were the hosts really friendly, they went the extra mile to ensure we had a wonderful time. The pool was unbelievable and the gardens all around the pool and our apartment were a joy. We didn't want to leave! Whether picking herbs from their garden, enjoying an evening dip in the beautiful pool, visiting the Tuna museum (which was remarkable) or sampling the delicious cake our hosts popped in for us, everything was bliss. The whole family loved our regular trips to nearby Noto and Modica for a food and a drink, and the local beaches on the nature reserve were fantastic. Where else can you see flamingoes flying over when you're having a swim in the sea. We cannot recommend the place highly enough and want to go back in the Spring or Autumn to see more of the local area.
Noto
The property is incredible. Authentic and a beautiful sanctuary in the hills of Noto. Elena has done an outstanding job renovating the masseria and my only regret is that we did not stay longer. That’s okay, it leaves incentive to return next year! The beds are so comfortable, the views are a dream. As a seasoned traveler and a big fan of Amangiri I have to say this hotel has become a close second to my favorite place in the world :) thank you for everything Consuelo, Elena and the entire team!
