Kanazawa is incredibly beautiful and felt like an underrated gem when we went there, as there were virtually no other tourists and the city was very calm and quiet. Lots of things to do, see and explore, and it kind of gives off similar vibes to Kyoto (with the historical districts and the river flowing through the city) but without the crowds. We had an amazing time there and would definitely return. We mostly walked everywhere because every street was gorgeous to look at. I recommend to visit the Kanazawa Castle and the garden next to it, the historical chaya districts (there are multiple) and the Oyama Shrine grounds. The city also offers amazing museums, which are worth a visit as well!

I loved that you could walk around the whole of Kanazawa.

I loved that you could walk around the whole of Kanazawa. There were so many interesting areas, good food and lots of history. It was a spacious town, with a mix of modern and old architecture. The proximity to other attractions and the mountains was also a bonus. It is easy to get to and I would highly recommend people visit.

I absolutely loved Kanazawa - a lovely city but much smaller & therefore easier to get around than some of the bigger cities - and less crowded. So much to see & do, and we found we were able to walk to everything. Loved the old Samurai district & the Kenrokuen Garden is spectacular. Even the train station is a work of art. Definitely a must see on your Japan intinerary.

A beautiful city with a strong arts and crafts culture and a long history. Everyone was very friendly. It was not at all crowded--I found it very relaxing and we could explore it at our own pace. I would recommend Kanazawa over Kyoto. We were able to book a tour guide for the day for free through the Kanazawa Tourist Board!! He arranged a wonderful vegetarian lunch at small restaurant near the Samurai district and a 2 hour silk painting experience with a master kagga Yuzen artisan. He helped us make arrangements for the next stop on our trip. I wish we had more time in Kanazawa to explore more of the temples and learn more about the arts and crafts traditions. There is a lot of very useful information on the Visit Kanazawa website https://visitkanazawa.jp/en/. It is easy to get to Kanazawa by train from Osaka or Tokyo. The city bus system is easy to use and very convenient.

    I really loved Kanazawa.

I really loved Kanazawa. It's a great place to spend 3-5 days. We really enjoyed walking around the garden, doing a tea ceremony, exploring the different handicraft shops, and strolling through the old samurai district. We enjoyed several really good meals at various restaurants, with plenty of options, and of course there's the big food market too. It's a beautiful city, with a bit of a slower pace than a bigger city like Tokyo, and there's so much to explore and appreciate.

Kanazawa was definitely one of the highlights of our 3 weeks in Japan. Such an easy city to explore the sights. We loved the Omicho Market, the Kenroku-en Gardens were beautiful, the Nagamachi Samurai district was fascinating and the Higashi Chaya and Kazuemachi Chaya districts were gorgeous, without the crowds of tourists elsewhere in Japan. Definitely worth visiting Kanazawa, we would have liked one extra night to explore a little more, and I would recommend 2 nights as a minimum here.

The view from the 25th floor over Kanazawa Station to the Sea of Japan impressed us, changing with the sun, rain, sleet from hour to hour. This is a very good large high rise hotel with all conveniences. The trains and busses from Kanazawa station, shopping and restaurants were all very handy. The service both for food and housekeeping was impeccable and the room was very well equipped with nice bathroom amenities, complementary bottled water and a range of refreshments. Loved the pyjamas.

This was one of the nicest hotels we stayed in during our trip to Japan. Everything is comfortable, modern and clean. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming as you enter the reception and very accommodating to any requests we made for amenities. It was actually our honeymoon and they kindly upgraded us to the top floor with amazing views of Kanazawa. The bed is also very comfortable and we slept very well here. Rooms are spacious and have everything you need.

We had a fantastic time at Soki, it was our favorite hotel of the whole Japan trip. The staff at the reception has been really helpful at all times, they helped me organize my wife's birthday in Kanazawa reconfirming previous reservations and arranging a birthday cake. The inhouse public bath is absolutely fantastic! Also, great location in front of the market and close to the train station and attractions. Absolutely recommended!

A truly amazing place. The hotel is completely new. Japanese style but oh so modern! Great value, wonderful staff. We even had a small Japanese garden in our room! We loved Kanazawa in general - such an amazing yet not overly touristic place. There is an awesome market right next door where you can buy sashimi, chirashi sushi and wagyu need skewers that were divine.

One of my favourite hotels of the trip, the Mitsui Garden Hotel was situated in close proximity to Omicho market and only a quick bus ride to Kanazawa Station and Kenrokuen Garden. Great Japanese bathing facilities and a lovely room. Would definitely stay again next time I travel to Kanazawa.
