This hotel is either new or freshly renovated, so facilities are spotless and I had a nice view over the town. My car was parked directly next to the front door. There is also an ice machine and beer vending machine, though at marked-up prices.

The place is fairly convenient. The room is clean and comfortable with all the amenities required for a short stay. Very polite and helpful staff, not to mention that the food is really nice! It comes with a complimentary breakfast but I had my dinner at the hotel as well and it was great.

This is my favourite Capsule hotel I have stayed in. The building is a beautiful old school building in the charming town of Magome. My capsule had a little more room than the others as well, so i appreciate that. Great facilities include even an entire gymnasium. Very clean and tidy, friendly staff, affordable, You MUST stay here!

The place and garden were beautiful. We loved the facilities like the kitchen, washing machine, dryer and the board games. The staff were lovely and it was nice to have a coffee shop just outside. And the most important the place had amazingly comfortable beds.

This place was a hallmark of Japanese hospitality! The host Masaya-san was quick to respond to any questions I had over text, and scheduled a driver to pick me up from the station when I arrived, and dropped me off at Magome for my hike the next day. He was extremely thoughtful in ensuring the logistics of my trip were fully taken care of, and at no point was I left feeling lost. He also prepared dinner and breakfast which were diverse in local seasonal ingredients and absolutely delicious! Not to mention the compound and house itself is full of history and charm! Will definitely stay here again if I return to the Kiso valley.

The 8km trail from Magome was great and there were buses going from the station to take you to the start of that short trail. On the return you could either walk to the train station a short walk from Tsumago or catch a bus back to Magome then another back to Nakatsugawa station. Lots of options and times. A beautiful and picturesque walk.

We arrived here after our first four nights in Tokyo and welcomed the peacefulness and pace of the town. We walked two legs of the Nakasendo Way using Nakatsugawa as our base: one leg walking from Nakatsugawa to Magome and the other bussing to Magome and walking to Tsumago from there and then returning to Nakatsugawa to our delightful guest house. Everyone we met here was helpful and kind. .

We planned to do the Nakasendo Trail.

We planned to do the Nakasendo Trail. We took a train to Nagiso and walked the 23kms back on the trail. Easy to follow trail and relatively quiet out of the main villages. Note! IC card doesn’t work. Buy a separate ticket for the trip. We found restaurants hard to find but up at the supermarket we used a great little place. Staff didn’t speak English but with a screen to order and Google translate, we had a great meal cooked to order.

The location is actually in Magome, a very small mountain town outside of Nakatsigawa. The views are incredible and the town is very nice.. small shops and old style buildings. And from there you can hike to Tsumago and beyond. Highly recommend

Definitely a step back in time to the Edo period trail system through the Kiso valley. A glimpse into village life in Japan. The builder and shops were so authentic and peaceful. The Nakasendo trail was blocks away to hike to Tsumago. Standing near the waterfalls where Myamato Musashi trained was a gift. An epic part of Japan.

Getting to our ryokan was a simple bus ride to the town from the train station. We were graciously greeted by the host of the ryokan. Delicious traditional dinner with many small dishes, all prepared with care. We started our hike early from Magome to Tsuamgo without many tourists which was a plus to take in the tranquility of the trail. The waterfalls along the way were impactful. Stopped for lunch in Tsumago and had cold soba with grilled fish, simple but delicious. If you decide to take the bus back to Magome in the late afternoon, be prepared to wait, there may be a line and the bus only runs every half hour, depending on the day.

Very conveniently located, just about 3-4 minutes walk from Nakatsugawa station. The staff at the reception are very friendly and helpful. It is a Japanese style Ryokan, the rooms are very beautiful, spacious and clean. The shower and toilet facilities are shared but everything is clean and plentiful amenities are available. I had read some reviews about the place being noisy and I was a bit worried about that but during my stay I did not experience any such problems. Lots of restaurants and convenience stores are there at walking distance.

Traditional Japanese ryokan-bedrooms upstairs and shared bathroom facilities. Host Jen (Jeng) was very welcoming, looking after everyone’s needs and happily facilitated the luggage courier for our walk to Tsumago, depositing our bags at Hotel Fuji No Mori, outside Tsumago. This allowed us to do this Kiso Valley walk without worrying about luggage pick up at Tsumago. Meals were at the family operated restaurant across the road. They were delicious. Both Jen and her sister Maria, at the restaurant we’re delightful hosts.
