Blenheim in a lovely quiet town surrounded by dozens of top class wineries. A great spot for a weekend away, you can try some of the best white wines (and some reds) NZ has to offer. There are also two craft beer breweries and a Gin distillery. Many of the cellardoors offer platters and food and overall I've found the staff friendly- and engaging.
There is much to do in Blenheim if you make the effort to find out all the info. We went straight to the info center and they were so helpful. Apart from the obvious wine tasting and vinyard visits, ( of which there are loads,) The farmers market was great for fresh produce at great prices. we went to the area where the museum is. Loved the area of the olden day shops and buildings , well worth a look. The little train is aiso a must to do. Would loved to have had more time to walk along the river and go to the gardens. Can't beat St Clairs for lunch. Try the celebration platter. Fresh figs to die for in Blenheim. too expensive in Christchurch so this was a treat.
Loved the WWI & WWII Omaka experience, spent a good 3 hours there.Staff so informative. A lot of vineyards were closed due to Covid. Gin tasting centre a great place with lovely setting. Husband hired a bike for 2 hours & went down all these side streets in vineyard area. Did a day trip to Kaikoura, loved the seal colony, all the pups were so funny.
I strongly recommend visiting the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre. Two excellent warbirds displays covering WW1 (Peter Jackson's Knights of the Air) and a parallel WW2 display created along similar lines by volunteers. Both extremely well done and informative. There's also the obvious wine tours. Enough said!
We stayed in Blenheim because that is where our daughter and her now husband decided to have their wedding. The weather was fantastic. The vineyard made for beautiful photos and the town is quaint and the people are very friendly.
Great access to the vineyards and to Picton and the Marlborough Sounds. However, there is a big shortage of good restaurants in Blenheim and Picton. Plenty of options for lunches at wineries but would have to book several weeks in advance for the two or three more upmarket places in the busy season.
Blenheim
After a very busy few days, we needed a complete rest. Walnut Cottages provided exactly that. Having stayed before we knew what to expect. The detail is amazing! Breakfast, drinks, wine if you want it (We had had quite enough wine before we arrived!) shampoo, a special cushion to cut out the light from next door, a very comfortable bed, an amazing shower, TV etc, not to mention the view and the sunset over the hills. Having slept in a few motels without all these things, we were impressed! We hope we left it all tidy for the next guest.

Best value for money in the Blenheim region as they are far far less than comparable accommodation in the District. Yes, it is a bit further out but when you are in a vineyard, who cares. Rooms are huge and really one could be happy living in this kind of place. Key was in the door on arrival, everything was as expected (except for minor tv problem), we came and go as we please, and only saw someone from staff when they were out and about cutting the grass. A perfect stay.
We really enjoyed our stay in this new hotel. The hosts were amazing and were so helpful and welcoming. Our room was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. The hotel is in the centre of town and within walking distance from several cafes, restaurants and wine bars. One can park in the public car park right next door at up to $4 a day. We will definitely stay next time we're back in Blenheim.
Blenheim
Hello, I found the cleanliness of the room and bathroom excellent. It must of been clean as I noticed it, thinking “this is clean”. The bathroom would be the cleanest I have stayed in and appointed with quality products to use. I stayed in a few other motels on my road trip and it was easy to notice some grime or unclean surface in the bathroom but not at this motel as was spotless. Thank you.
Chateau Marlborough provided a wonderful stay for us. We had a very large room with a very comfy bed and excellent sized TV. Loved the robes too! The location is perfect. Easy walking distance to town and only a short drive to all of the vineyards and surrounding sites. Was very good value for money. Would certainly consider staying again.
