Travelers who stayed in Puerto Maldonado near Puerto Maldonado International Airport (PEM) have said good things about Hospedaje El Huerto, La Torre Valsai, and Hotel Jose Antonios Inn.
We wanted to add a short trip to the Amazon to our Peru Itinerary and Puerto Maldonado was a quick flight from Cusco. We stayed at Wasai eco lodge which is located in town and we were able to arrange excursions through them. During our excursion to Lake Sandoval we saw monkeys, otters, and a variety of birds. We ate at Shamans restaurant because it was close to our hotel, the food and service was decent but they seemed to be out of a lot of items on the menu.
Hot, dusty town, 3-wheeled mototaxis and motorcycles and scooters everywhere. Would never want to stay in town, but was an interesting place to visit. But, like most of my experiences in Peru, other than those directly involved in tourism, people just not very friendly.
Nice jungle city Nice main square near the river Good bars and restaurant around to take good fruit juice Panoramic tower A modern bridge like the Golden gate Day trips to Sandoval Lake or to a Lodge for longer
It's a small city but you can do much things like visit real life and almost Virgin jungle, next time I will come back with more time. The best place to eat is Burgos restaurant and some of the things to do include visit to Sandoval Lake, adventure walk, monkey Island, etc.
Peurto maldonado is the kick off point to visit Tambopata natural reserve. As we have not been to Manu or Iquitos we cannot compare to other jungle locations in Peru. What I can say is that we really enjoyed our jungle expreince. We traveled to Heath River (in Bolivia/Peru border) and to Lago Sandoval with an organized (and quite pricy) 6day/5night tour with InkaNatura. We were very satisfied with the service, the plan, the guide and the overall experience. I would highly recommend InkaNatura and would also encourge people to spend an extra night if they have time in peurto maldonado as I think flying right after the jungle experience in your muddy boots is a bit stressful.
It is definitely a jungle experience. It was like camping but in cabin type rooms/facilities. We enjoyed feeling part of nature and being close to the locals. Roger was great. He took us into town anytime we needed. We went on two guided tours, one was a jungle walk where we saw monkeys, ate Brazil nuts and drank water from bamboo he had cut. We also went in his boat up the Tambopata River. At night on the river we saw, several animals. If you want a jungle experience I recommend Isuyama Hostel.
Super stay at La Habana. Loved the facilities and location. It is a 20 minute taxi ride out of the town, but we loved the quiet location and rural feel. Super clean, very friendly and helpful hosts and great bar/eating area. Hosts helped us with our two tours - both great. Breakfast lovely and we ate dinner there twice, which was also very tasty and good value. Highly recommend La Habana for visiting the jungle.
The room is simple but clean and the bathroom and bed sheets spotless (there is a mattress protector). Mosquito nets at the windows were essential and very welcome. Staff speak little English but are friendly and helpful. My buffet breakfast was included as Genius perk but well worth the $3 normally charged. This is a good and inexpensive place to stay in the heart of Puerto Maldonado, just 3 miles from the airport.
The lodges were extremely comfy, spacious and rustic. The views from the balcony of tambopata river were gorgeous. The hotel staff were lovely and friendly. The lodge owner was the most relaxed and warm host we have ever met (plus he is an amazing chef!). The food was divine and we were spoilt with fresh juices and fruits every day. I wish we had longer than just 5 nights here - I would definitely visit again!!!
Very weird athmosphere, all is look under costruction around you... But after some day in Puerto Maldonado you can understand the flow, and then you can understand the hostel and you start to feel confortable. Sufficient clean. Recomended room with toilet if you don't travel cheap, because otherwise is far from the room. At the end is nothing bad, but nothing exciting.
The nicest, welcoming family runs the hotel. The room was huge and very clean, with daily housekeeping. Breakfast was good. Great value. Hotel helped with an affordable motorcycle rental and with storing our bags. Very good Wi-Fi and hot shower. Only 3 soles tricycle ride from the main tourist area. Sports court and pizza place nearby. We stayed 4 nights.
What is not too like?! Staff, bath/rooms, cleanliness, breakfast, aircon, wifi...everything this hotel advertises to provide, they do...with a smile. We’ve been travelling through Peru for numerous weeks staying in 3-4 star hotels and The Copasu is up there simply because the people that work in it seem to care. Well done!
The owner Anthony was a really nice guy. He helped us a lot with booking tours, organizing transportation or all other small things (like removing spiders from the room which is normal in the amazonas). Also the small kitchen was nice and in a good shape. Thanks for having such a nice time in Puerto Maldonado.
Stopped here overnight after the day bus, before leaving on a trip to a jungle lodge. Very kind staff who helped me check in even though I arrived very late. They also helped coordinate with the lodge for transportation in the morning. The bed was comfortable and the AC worked well when I got it working.
The other rooms had balconies and a nice view of the river further inside the premises, where it is very green and has a bit of a jungle lodge feeling to it. They also have sloths roaming in the tree tops around the premises. The breakfast is okay and the restaurant has good food.
Luxury lodge in the jungle. You are really spoilt. If you enjoy nice hotels then this is the ONLY way to see the Amazon. We were upgraded to the room with a plunge pool which made the stay even better. Trips are great, would recommend 2 nights here (3 nights maximum).
Huge rooms with comfy beds and clean bathroom. Always felt very safe as the front gate is locked at all times. Hotel is very fresh and clean with staff very welcoming and friendly. Markets and shops nearby for everything that you might need. 15min walk to the river.
It's in a great location. The view of the river is beautiful. The room I stayed in was big, comfortable bed. The shower fantastic. I'll highly recommend staying here. It's a stunning spot to stay in Puerto Maldonado. I was travelling solo and felt safe.
This was a great jungle lodge, yet close enough to town if you needed anything. The owners are so friendly and helpful. Thai food is delicious and so was breakfast. Pancake the monkey is very fun too!
Very clean 3 star hotel. Very friendly staff, prompt shuttle service, solid breakfast buffet and central location. I would stay here again.
We had a fantastic three night excursion to the rainforest. The facilities were clean and maintained. Staff were extremely helpful- this is a very well organized operation! The rooms are open to the elements on one side, but staff lower the mosquito netting while guests are at dinner. Early to bed is the key because activities start very early in the day (4:30 am) to beat the heat in the afternoon. Our biggest compliment is to the staff- our guide, Gilbert, was knowledgeable, patient, organized and obviously loved his work. He is a remarkable man.
Absolutely worth being here! Actually the stay started from the welcome on the airport. The journey to the lodge is also an observation of the animals. If you’re lucky enough to have Julio as your guide, the trip would be much more fun because he is a great botanist、zoologist and your bodyguard during you Amazon adventure. Nice lodge, great staff!
