The Vintage House - Douro, Quinta Nova - Luxury Winery House, and LBV House Hotel got great room view-related reviews from travelers in Pinhão.
Very well located in the Douro Valley if you are planning to visit several vineyards. The roads are not very easy, being narrow and having lots of curves however this is is certainly worth the amazing views.
Wonderful small village located in a paradise location. Many of the river boat cruises start here, very close to magnificent wineries and Porto Wine producers. You can easily spend several days here!!
Quinta Bomfin was superb. Also don't miss Qualifer on the main street for superb cured meats and a delightful staff who will ply you with samples of their meats and cheeses. Look for the red awnings to the left on themain street as you exit the station.
Town is still a small, working town with the pluses and minuses of that. It is billed as being in the "heart of the Douro" and it does feel that way - allowed us to have some sense of the area. Town itself is very accessible by train, but there is not a great deal to see/do in town itself, and range of restaurants is small. However, there are small quintas nearby to tour. We had a very informative tour at Quinta de la Rosa, and a very pleasant ride on a rabelo up the Douro on a sunny October day. It may be very crowded earlier in the summer/fall from what I understand. We were very lucky with weather, as October may apparently be rainier than we experienced. Walking paths along the river would be a treat; I was a bit disappointed not to be able to do that.
The quintas are a good reason to visit Pinhão. The vineyards are beautiful and they have amazing views. I recommend doing a boat tour on the Douro River if it is a nice day. Not much to do in the town however.
The town itself is rather dismal but the surrounding area is beautiful. The Douro valley is breathtaking! We had a car and drove the Alto Douro which is full of switchback roads, not for the faint of heart! Stopped in Favios and toured the little museum called Bread and WIne. Sampled some Muscatel there. Then shopped at a coop down the street (Adega de Favaios) where the winemakers sell their wines.
