The hostess was friendly and helpful and made a wonderful breakfast each morning and provided great recommendations on the local area. The Pinhao region is unbelievably beautiful with numerous restaurants and wineries. Our room overlooked the river and terraced grape and olive orchards on the opposite hill.

United StatesI booked the terrace studio of Casa Nunes on a last minute impulse to celebrate my birthday in beautiful Pinhão. I arrived from Porto by train - Casa Nunes has several rentals on the host's property which is just up the street from the train station in Pinhão. The host family was very kind and welcoming, and the apartment has a lovely view of the Douro River through the back gate at the top level of the property. The unit I stayed in seemed nearly new, it was tasteful and very comfortable. The small refrigerator was filled with food for my breakfasts, there was also fruit, coffee, tea and a large bottle of water. There's a lovely private patio sitting area that in warmer weather would be a perfect spot to read or eat breakfast. This was decorated for Christmas and I loved the little tree! The hosts live on the property, but were very considerate of my privacy. I really enjoyed my stay!

Didn't really spend time in the village but stayed at the Quinta. While arriving we drove across a narrow 2 way road to the only road bridge for miles along the river. The road should have been 1 way and therefore a truck and a bus caused a mini traffic jam. Quite amusing 😆

We enjoyed wine tasting, port tasting, tours of the vineyards, a boat trip down the Douro and a train ride.
We visited in a July heatwave so it restricted us a little in terms of activities, for example too hot to take a long walk
Pinhao is quiet and small. 3 days was ample.
Food was excellent but opening times and availability of some restaurants was a little random and a couple of them would only accept cash.

This town and the Douro valley are what dreams are made of. I never would have guessed how incredibly beautiful everything is. The town itself is small and I ate at the same places both days I was there (sorbet shop at the train station and The Writers Place, but there were many places to eat to choose from. I had such an amazing meal there the first night that I decided to go back for lunch the 2nd day.
I walked across the river to the vineyard across the bridge, and did a self guided walking tour there, then enjoyed a nice porto tasting at the end.
On Sunday evening however the train back to Porto was packed!

The location is perfect for visiting the wineries. We thought that an overnight was plenty of time but that depends on how many wineries you want to visit. An olive oil museum tour at D'Origem was great, especially for a family, because they gave a tour and then bread to try with olive oil, honey, and 3 different kinds of wine (or port-I can't remember). The solar boat tour was terrific, too. Couples may want to stay longer if they want to see several wineries. Beyond that, the town itself is really run down. So worth staying for access but don't expect to be walking down beautiful streets.

It is incredibly beautiful in Pinhao. We went in low season and the first night we struggled to find anywhere open to eat so had to make do with a sandwich in a bar. We went much earlier the second evening as the restaurant closed at 8pm. I highly recommend going to Pinhao. The pace of life is slow and the scenery is stunning. Definitely worth doing a boat trip and vineyard tour. My husband and son also hired bikes and the photos they took were incredible

The little village is very small - very few stores and...
The little village is very small - very few stores and restaurants. A few wineries there for tastings. Need a car to be able to drive to the wineries at the top of the surrounding hills and even 30 minutes away. Taxis are very expensive. Driving can be harrowing on the steep hills and extremely narrow roads. It's a good place to go to launch yourself to wine tastings in the region. It's not a place to bring children. We enjoyed dinner family style at our Casa. We LOVED going to Wine and Soul - where they still stomp their grapes. Outstanding ports and wines.

A wonderful location with a swimming pool and beautiful views over the vineyard and the Douro river. Lovely, helpful staff and a very comfortable room with great facilities. The restaurant was also excellent with high quality food and drink from breakfast through to dinner. Great walk through the vineyard to the Douro and an interesting winery tour and tasting. We also had a private boat trip up the Douro to Pinhão which was magical.

We loved the warm and caring way in which Pedro made us feel at home and well looked after. It's an authentic way to experience a quaint town like Pinhao and a short walk to the station and the port. He has a great cafe (Cafe Imperio) right across the road from Pinhao station, too. We'll be back to stay next time we're in the Douro Valley. Obrigado Pedro.

Excellent location in Pinhao with a view overlooking the Douro and its boat moorings. Breakfast buffet was very good as was the ability to sit on the porch overlooking the river. Rooms were spacious and well appointed. Concierge services were OK.
