Had a great 3 days in Setubal. Impressed by historic centre with amazing little cobblestone streets. Ate at several restaurants and loved food and prices at them all. For an in expensive typical Portuguese meal, try the Botequim do Bocage on the Praça Bocage. For a nice evening out, go to U Topico (really special) or Sem Horas. For a fun meal, try Tasca da Avenida by the Fisherman’s wharf. We also took bus to Azeitao for the day and went to wineries. Great tour at Jose Maria de Fonseca and highly recommend the Super Premium tasting at Bacalhoa
Setubal is a beautiful city and typically Portuguese. The historic centre is very pretty with winding cobbled streets and many individual shops. It does have a beach area which is clean and well served with bars and restaurants close by. It makes a great alternative to Lisbon for a holiday or short city break.
We looked at Setubal through a different eye than a vacationer, because we are scouting it as a potential new place to call home. On the surface, the town seems a little tired and gritty. I do have to say that it took the entire four days for the city to grow on me in such a way that we are now considering it as a place to live. It is small and quiet. And the restaurants are just alright. We missed the weekend music festival that was coming up; that would have been nice to experience how the people of Setubal celebrate and enjoy themselves.
Setubal is a really charming town, being on the coast it has a lovely refreshing breeze. It's easy to find everything you need, a great choice of restaurants and bars and cafes, a supermarket and wonderful local food market. The beaches close by are clean and accessible and if you have access to a car the mountains are a short drive. It feels really local and not touristy, with very affordable portugese food. I loved wandering the streets in the old town . It's really well situated for trips to Lisbon, Cascais and Sintra. Travelling on trains and ferries is easy .
The city is compact, clean and pretty. It has many interesting shops and galleries. It is easy to move around, no hills. The seafront is delightful and there is always something happening, river traffic etc. The restaurants and cafes are friendly and the food excellent. Look for the black cat on the roof of the Information centre in the square. There are many trips into the interior and on the sea, also horse riding and a trip to Troia, its peninsular with great marina restaurants. Take the catamaran. The market is superb, everything clean and fresh and so much choice.
National Park on your doorstep, which means some tough hikes. Great beaches in the National Park or a short, convenient ferry-ride away on the Troia Peninsula. If you have a car, you can take the ferry to Cais Sul on Troia and visit the exclusive resort of Comporta at the southern base of the Peninsula. From Setubal, you can even head north into Lisbon for a fancier restaurant or a more lively night out.
Setúbal
We arrived late at night and were welcomed by 46 steep steps to get to our room! However, the comfort, quality, and cleanliness of our room as well as all the shared facilities, more than made up for our late night hike! Pedro and Patricia were lovely people, although we interacted primarily with Pedro. Super helpful, super attentive, and keen to make sure that all his guests are comfortable and happy. Great base for checking out Setubal and the Arrabida Natural park.
Lovely period building and the interior design is fantastic , We stayed in the Madeira room (one of the smaller rooms) it was beautifully decorated room with comfortable beds and the owners have paid real attention to detail . The Hotel is centrally located and is in easy walk of beaches, town centre and lots of restaurants . The owners and staff were helpfully and friendly . I simply love this hotel
Setúbal
I loved this hotel. It was easy to get to and central, and once I arrived there was a warm welcome from the manager who had stayed late to check me in and show me round - much appreciated. The top floor terrace was a great feature with a panoramic view of Setubal - very unusual. My room was clean and comfortable. I would recommend this hotel - excellent value for money and a real discovery!
A unique location in a historic manor house transformed into a luxury hotel, around vineyards supplying the harvest of grapes for Maria Jose de Fonesca, the oldest wine producer of the Setubal peninsula. Very professional hotel staff and an excellent hotel restaurant. There is a possibility of organizing relaxing horse riding in the field.
The youngsters running this place are incredibly kind and professional! The facility is spotless (I could live there). It was such a treat to myself to stop here for a few days. A great, clean and thoughtful hotel created in an historic building. Definitely one of my most comfortable stays on my eight week tour of PT. Well done!
The breakfast was outstanding! Even the chef was there always checking if something needs to be refilled. The location is very good, very central in Setúbal, you can walk a few minutes to find great restaurants. Also the ferry boat is 2min away. We already stayed at Luna in Serra da Estrela and it was amazing 🤩
Setúbal
The hotel was super well located, just around the corner of everything that Setúbal has to offer. The room was very clean, they offered a welcome drink both at arrival and in the room, and staff was always at my disposal for any questions I had about the area. Would definitely stay here again!
The hotel was fine. Staff very friendly and helpful. The location, not far in walking distance to train station. A lot of choice on breakfast items. When checking in we had a smaller room and when asking they changed us immediately to a bigger room without supplement to pay.
The photos on the Booking are better than the hotel. The hotel needs renovation so quickly. The hotel has good location, friendly staff, good breakfast, but it would be great if the hotel had a modern design.
The hotel is small and intimate and the personel really friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was excellent and everything clean and neat.
The room is clean and silent. The hotel is very well placed in downtown with a lot of resources. You can access the main things of Setubal.
Setúbal
Apartment was clean, but cold. Not the best part of Setubal, just across the road from Train Station.
Again, everything. I choose this hotel third time and i choose it again if i visiting portugal.
